Cabin crew gossip

I don't understand why they would insist on make up and heels these days. I saw a fly on the wall show about cabin crew training and they emphasised the importance of safety as part of their role so why not let them wear a more suitable uniform? the days of travel being glamorous are long gone.
Totally agree. These days economy is just like getting from A to B. Like getting the Bus!

I was on a plane that ended up making an emergency landing after a technical fault. A passenger not far from me shat himself. It was quite hairy, to be fair.

My husband sat next to Robson Green on a Newcastle - Heathrow flight.
They exchanged emails after chatting about fishing for the full flight

That's all I've got sorry. And no he never did email him 😂
Took my Mum to New York once I got promoted at work and could afford it. She was sitting next to Jon Snow from Channel 4 news. She was loving it, he was very sweet and listened to her and engaged with her chat. Me feeling embarrassed for 8 hours in ecomony.....

The last I watched was Upgrade me: Secrets of First Class. This was just a few weeks ago on Channel 5 so may still be available on catch up on My5

Prior to this I also enjoyed Heathrow: Britain's busiest Airport which was on ITV. A few years ago was A Very British Airline (BBC) - detailing BA cabin crew recruitment. Quite a few years past was Airline (BBC) again based on Heathrow, and the original I can still remember was Airline (ITV) featuring easyJet.

I'm sure all these programmes will be available on YouTube. Enjoy!
Thanks so much! Xxx

Why were you embarrassed? Did you think she was annoying Jon Snow? If so, I'm sure he has encountered far worse in his time ;)

Lovely thing to do allowing your Mum to have the seat in a superior cabin, you 'slumming' it down the back (y)

I flew Gran Canaria to Düsseldorf with Eurowings a few days ago and noticed that the cabin crew all wore flat shoes and we had two male cabin crew. Love that Eurowings seems to be breaking free from the typical airline "standards".

This feels the right thread to say that the 19 hour Qantas Perth to London Dreamliner flight is a marvel of engineering but I do not like Qantas' economy seat product on the 787. Slighty more leg room but almost a centimeter narrower than their economy product on the A380s and other long-haul planes. I'm curvy and found it v uncomfortable for the long flight.

On the plus side, it's Qantas, and they do long-haul service and food very well. Other great economy options for Aus to Europe - Ethiad, Emirates, Singapore. Not that anyone is flying to or from Australia at the moment :(

In more scandalous airline chat, I will never fly Qatar again after this last year: https://www.archive.is/oldest/https...them-since-invasive-doha-airport-examinations

That is absolutely horrific , I can’t imagine how traumatic that must have been.

I think most uk airlines uniform policy will allow cabin crew to wear flat shoes once onboard. Heels are usually worn walking around the airport to and from anywhere they would be seen by the public etc. Some girls chose to wear heels regardless especially on shorter flights as it’s faff changing between 2 pairs. Although I agree it’s outdated to expect female crew to be “seen” in public in heels. Should be able wear flat comfy shoes with their uniform the whole time.

I love this thread!

The most glamorous crew I’ve ever seen were Avianca when I flew internally in Argentina. They all looked like models.

I am eternally grateful for cabin crew and will always defend them when I hear people refer to their jobs as trolley Dolly’s or similar. On my honeymoon flight my husband took seriously ill and their support and emergency training was legit second to none. Not only did they have to keep me and the random guy I was set next to calm (who was hysterical at how poorly my husband was), they had to administer emergency medical training to keep my hubby safe until we had an emergency landing. They were also dealing with abuse from other passengers who were complaining about their drinks/snacks being late due to said medical emergency 🙄 it really just shows how much goes into their role, so far beyond the waitressing side.

ive always been tempted to pursue the role myself being multilingual and desperate to see the world, unfortunately personal circs meant it was never to be, but I’d say even if you’re floating with the idea, just go for it!!

A few years ago we were living in Abu Dhabi for my husbands job. His company messed up with my visa, I'd been there over 9 months and not heard anything from them. To sort it they had to pay a fine and I had to leave the country and return again. They booked me a flight to Oman and back again the same day. Going there was only a few on the plane. Coming back it was a stopover from Bangladesh, a plane full of young men going to Dubai for work so it was full. I had a middle seat. On one side the lad was ogling my breasts with his mouth open. The one in the window seat got his gob and and was having a tank while staring at me. All it took was one terrified look from me to cabin crew and it was dealt with swiftly but quietly. He was brilliant despite the passengers being excited, unruly and using phones, he was so pushed, he saw I needed help. He got me out of that seat so fast. Boy, was I grateful.
