I always find it weird seeing back when there was no phones or internet. I'm only 31 so as a child we just had TV and the odd Nintendo SNES to play with! What did people do without a phone to mindlessly play with?

I had a feeling she was older. She def does the moody 80s teen well just a bit over the top imo

Another thing- sometimes i get the feeling esp with the Grants and Bobby and Sheila in particular, that their script is well… not scripted. Does that make sense?
2 very good actors, Ricky Tomlinson & Sue Johnston, they make it look easy, I don't think Brookside would have taken off without them.

Our Claire!!! 🥰 Brookside royalty 😂 you were the first born in a storyline. Obviously you know that! I say this because when we first started watching at ours we mentioned the Grant baby storyline as one we remembered. Are you watching the old episodes?
Can't remember, did you have any lines in later episodes?
So many questions 😂 are you in touch with any of the original cast? Have you done any more TV work since? What are you doing these days?
I'll be reporting back to my husband later 🤭
Aw its so nice to read these messages haha.
Yes I remember being the only child on set for ages, it was always so exciting if there was another child around!
I once asked why my name wasn't on the credits so I did get given lines on a couple of occasions but then refused to say them lol.

One of my parents was a writer for it so they are still good friends with Ricky and in touch with Sue.
But honestly, I hated the attention haha. I could have been in the final episode but didn't want to. I remember the make up chair and wardrobe department being the most exciting place, I've always worked in fashion type jobs and did my degree in that too ..... I think my family didn't anticipate the level of attention I got at the time so I think that's why I was taken out when I was 5. I was 6 weeks old when I was first brought to set and its funny but even now I can pick out Sue Johnston's voice on an advert instantly it always sounds so familiar.
My best memory is when Madge from Neighbours came to visit the set (no idea why lol). She was so nice and gave me a big hug. My parents were at a dinner party later and she was talking about the young girl she worked with wanting to leave Neighbours to start a pop career and the brookie cast were saying what a fool she is giving up a good job like that...of course it was Kylie Minogue haha

Someone said on an earlier post- its not so much a soap but just everyday life (or words to that effect)
Not much is happening. Things seem to drag on. Some acting is awful (Petra and Karen! ) but some is very natural (Bobby and Sheila)

Also…. Alan Partridge. Hahaha

When I first met my husband, he took me to the Brookside set (it had been off the air for years at that point) and convinced the security guard to let us have a look around. I knew he was a keeper from that moment 😂

Pat really grates on me … ”Saaahndra”!!

I also don’t get the Heather/Nick relationship, he looks like a kids’ TV presenter. Tom had a funny mouth and Jonathan was totally charmless.

The only attractive man, in my opinion, is Billy Corkhill … there’s something about him.
He was a kid's TV presenter! :ROFLMAO:

As for attractive, it's got to be Barry Grant!

Ooooh can't wait to start this. I have virgin, not sky, wonder can i get it on there. I was so young when Brookside came out, but still remember the nightclub bomb and the helicopter crashing into the garage :D
I remember the nightclub bomb. Even at 11 years old I thought having a bomb 18 months after the gas explosion on one shopping parade was a bit far fetched 😂

I agree. Petra’s acting has indeed been awful.
When Gavin died she did this over the top shaking thing ALL the time. And the bit in the supermarket with the biscuits. My god.

I caught episode 1, looks almost like it was filmed in a home movie style 😁
Loved seeing the old cars, the yellow Citroen 2CV, Bobby Grant's Austin Princess & Barry's gas guzzler Jaguar.
I remember when these new-build estates were springing up & hanging around the sites with pals, being a nuisance to the night watchman.
Soaps like Neighbours definitely took inspiration from Brookside a few years later.

I haven't watched quite a few episodes, but managed to catch up on this week.
I don't remember Bobby being so awful, but then I was quite young when these episodes first aired.
I just wanted Tracey Corkhills hair style with her streaks in, had to make do with an inferior shades and toners job.
How heart breakingly gorgeous is Barry in these episodes, helping and protecting his Mum.
A good weeks episodes, nothing drastic (yet) just keeping everything ticking along nicely.

Hello all, I have been waiting for this for years! I have about 30 episodes to catch up on. Loving all the 80's house styles, fashions, hair ( I so miss a perm). One thing that has struck me in the early episodes is they all say shall I put the kettle on, and then there is no kettle boiling noises. Sound recording must have been a bit more complicated in the 80's.

I remember watching the first three years with my mum, then I moved away and Brookside was our way of keeping in touch, we would have a weekly phone call where we discussed what had been going on, on the close.

I have been laughing at Heather and her typewriter, the close is still quite empty in the episodes I am watching, but loving it all so far. Got lots of opportunity to catch up over the next week or so, so hopefully I'll be up to speed with the rest of you soon.

Finally I can't believe how young everyone looks. I must be getting old.

Me too! I’m an 80s kid and I think looking back, the style was a lot more frumpy than it is now.

I quite like the clothes Heather wears and I can’t help but think they had her character sort of bucking the trend of what women or working women wore in those days
Imagine Sheila and Annabelle in ripped mom jeans and converse (my staple wear😂)
