There’s an interview on Red Table Talk with a lady named Angela Tucker. She’s a transracial adoptee (a black child adopted by a white family). The interview was SO interesting! She said almost forgets that she’s black and she feels more comfortable around people who are white. She doesn’t feel connected to her culture because she grew up with a white family in a white neighborhood and she wasn’t around very many black people growing up. It was so sad!
It made me think of Paisley and Daxton. I know Mindy said she talked to them about racism before and she occasionally takes Paisley to a black women to style her hair, but I think they’re mostly around white people (their neighborhood, school, church, etc). I hope they don’t grow up and feel disconnected from their culture and identity.
