It is an irrefutable fact that there is trauma to a baby when they are removed from their mother. It's not made up for this thread.
Facts arent attacks.
A good life with good parents doesn't change the fact that there was very early trauma and that alters that child forever. No one doubts that a child growing up secure and with loving parents is better than a child who doesn't have that. No one has said otherwise.

Glad I found this thread tonight to follow along. Watching Brendan’s journey has brought up a lot of thoughts and feelings for me. Been discussing it with the girls in work. The issue I/we have is that it’s a transaction. And a luxury only the wealthy have access to.
And that's a huge reason why Brendan has done it I reckon. To show us he can do whatever he wants because he has money.
IVF is a luxury for most, are those parents buying those children too? I'd imagine you are an absolute delight in real life

I appreciate that you don't like or want to hear others thoughts on this because you feel it is an attack on you in some way but this is a tattle thread about Brendan and surrogacy, not you and adoption.

Yes, I'm stating a fact. I've nothing against surrogacy, I am discussing what it means in reality for the baby.

Appreciate all comments its good to debate. The world cant have everyone agreeing all the time, different viewpoints are always needed.
What about surrogates who are related to the 'parents', or are very close friends. That's not 'buying' a baby. They're providing a beautiful gift to people who might otherwise never enjoy parenthood.
Are those babies damaged irrevocably by being handed over shortly after birth to loving parents?
I find it hard to believe a newborn who is handed over within hours of birth will be forever scarred by not being with it's biological mother.

Fertility and reproduction are very emotive issues for many reasons. I understand that and haven’t intended to offend anyone with my comments.

It doesn't matter who the baby is handed to or if it lives next door to the surrogate, the fact is that there is a trauma that the baby goes through. I don't write this for the sake of it. The baby won't remember but the fact is that there is trauma for babies at separation from their mother. Having new loving parents is nothing to do with it.
I will say it again for those who don't read properly, I have no problems with surrogacy if that is someone's route to becoming a parent. As long as the woman is not being exploited then why would anyone have a problem with it?
I've already said its a wonderful gift to give to others.
It's still a fact that the baby will go through trauma though. It's unavoidable in any baby who loses its mother in any way.
We can’t legally pay here. In America there would be a contract covering all medical bills etc, which would be substantial, and the fee to the surrogate, surrogacy agency etc. could be tens if not hundreds of thousands.
I watched a girl on tiktok in America who was a suroggate for a man and women who were struggling to have a baby and she was also a fertility nurse.
She couldn't legally say amounts, but said she was paid in the 90k range.
She was able to put a deposit down on a house in her state etc and spend the last 3 months sending the parents breastmilk etc. Maybe that's what Brendan is doing and hence he's staying a long time? Who knows.
But she see's the baby every 6 months and they seem to have an amazing relationship and want her to carry there next baby.
Hopefully the girl who birthed this baby is having the same amount of love and care given back, but maybe they don't have a relationship as he was in Belfast and she was in the states?
Not being smart but as a gay couple their options are limited as to how they can have a child & surrogacy is one of them.But yes agree a lot of people couldnt afford that option
Have a look at life with irish twins on instagram and there journey with surrogacy they way the family were treated was disgusting birth mum wanted more and more money and if they didn't give it to her she would say she was going to get rid of the baby
I've heard of things like that before. I remember watching a documentary a good few years ago about surrogacy gone wrong.
When the surrogate decided she was keeping the baby and the couple could do nothing at all about it. Another where the couple who paid for surrogacy changed their minds when it was determined the baby would have downs.
I think there was a story in there too about the surrogate taking payments and then revealed there was no baby etc.
It can go awfully wrong sometimes but thankfully it goes well for most.
I remember kim cotton being a surrogate and her future pregnancies, the couples she helped and the organisation she went on to open.
