I’m jealous!

I’m in a book drought and bar a strong January, I’ve have struggled to find enough books I want to read this year.

I get anxious when I don’t have a decent read to get into. I’m an insomniac and books are my safe place, especially when I can’t sleep they make me feel less alone.

I've got right into happy ever after trashy gay love stories, which is helping boost the reading list. But I've got a stack of others as well, murder mysteries, Agatha Christie's, and a load of non-fiction stuff as well, royal stuff, couple of biographies, some history, Egyptian, English history, political based history stuff.

I've just found this year I've really rediscovered my passion for reading. I've already read more books this year than I had in the last five years combined I think. But it means there's loads to catch up on as it were.

Finally finished Run Rose Run. I did enjoy it, characters very likeable but it was just an average read for me. Ive rounded up from 3.5 to give it 4 stars. As a fan of Nashville I think it would work really well as a limited TV drama.

Also finished The Finish Line, the third book in the Ravenshood trilogy. It was far too long and it was clear to me that it was only supposed to be 2 books as confirmed by the author. I feel like I gained nothing from third book. Justice for Sean. Tobias just wasnt for me.

I started Black Cake and Im hooked already, really strong start.

Also contemplating reading this months book club choice. I wasnt sure I wanted to as I tend to find 'Im just a normal person and got put in jail' stories privileged and annoying but I have free time this week so I think I'll get started tonight.

I’ve just finished listening to Big Little Lies and gave it 5/5. I’d still say the tv series takes the edge just slightly because it’s such a great cast and the setting is beautiful.

Even though some of the characters are described differently to how they’re shown on screen and the book is set in Australia, I still ended up picturing the actresses that played the characters.

It’s made me want to rewatch the series.

I had a long train journey yesterday and flew through The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. I really just didn't enjoy it at all, and if it wasn't for being stuck on a train with poor phone signal and nothing else to do I would probably have put it down and not picked it back up again. I was really disappointed as I quite enjoyed her other books, albeit that they were a bit predictable. Really felt the story was a bit confusing and poorly structured, lacked any sense of anticipation or emotional investment. I think others have talked about it on the thread already but wondered if anyone had actually read it and enjoyed it?

Overrated author.
Her books are always hyped up but they’re not worthy of the recognition they get.

I know lots of you are reading "heavy" books at the moment it seems. So please don't judge me for reading Love, Hate & Clickbait, fake gay romance to falling in love story.

I know how this books is gonna go before I finish reading it. The three "acts" every one of these stories has.

And as cliche as it's gonna be, I think I'm gonna love it.

The ones in the Love Hypothesis made me cringe! There was one bit where she says he put my whole breast in his mouth and it made me laugh I was like how it that even possible and I told Mr Fudge about it and ever since then it’s been a joke between us

i’ll give her a try! i did a creative writing degree and i always remember one of my tutors saying in a seminar that decent and believable love scenes are the most difficult things to write, which is understandable. it’s so easy to either make them too cringe or just too Much. i wish i could remember the name of those literacy awards who give prizes to the worst ones of the year

I would love a week off normal life just to read a few books. I'm quite looking forward to a quiet weekend where hopefully I spend at least a few hours curled up on an armchair under a blanket with a book (yes I am 31 going on 81)

Aww man. I am one of those who enjoyed the book. She does not look anything like the Kya in my head and that all looks way too polished and clean and nice for the marsh in my mind.

Eeek. I liked the book but it isn't one i loved or hold up in high esteem so I probably will watch the movie, usually I never watch the movie adaptation of a book I have enjoyed.

that’s actually one of the reasons why i think the movie will overcome the (many) shortcomings of the book. the nice and clean look of it, and that she just looks slightly dishevelled rather than a girl who has lived alone in a shack on a marsh for years, helps buy into how two of the most popular guys in town even give her a second look - not to mention all the other various plot points that made no sense. i mean, a girl who lived her childhood and preteen years as she did should realistically have been semi-feral, not adorably smudged in cute overalls and able to learn to read in two days

i could write an essay about how much i disliked crawdads tbh i’ll spare you all but i do think it will work far better as a rose-tinted movie than whatever the book attempted to be.

I bought Pachinko but haven't read it yet. Does anyone get that thing where you need to be in a certain mood to start reading a book? I wasn't in the right frame of mind. Instead, I read Piranesi (after caving to the hype), but it wasn't quite what I expected. Curious to hear other people's thoughts.

I really need to stop checking this thread when I already have so many books lined up. The First Day of Spring has now been bought!

I’ve just finished this month’s Paige Toon read which I didn’t enjoy as much as the others I’ve read so far.

I have The Heights and They Both Die at the End queued up next as they’re library books with a limit on them. I also have Where the Crawdads Sing as an audio book.

Then I MUST start Pachinko and also the two physical library books I have, argh!

Then at some point I should probably make my way through the books on my kindle I guess. Wouldn’t it be great if you could take a week off normal life and just focus on reading and that’s it?
