What is this Bookouture of which you speak? Googling has done nothing but confuse me
They are a publisher who have a fantastic selection of books @Carapop.

What is Bookouture month? Are you submitting a novel? Or is it reading certain titles?

It is something that I made up last year @ahkrin given that I had/still have a number of books that have been published by them on my shelf. So no whilst I love to I am not submitting a novel and instead I'm just reading books that have specifically been published by them.

I finished the ' sexy wizard of Oz retelling'.

I was disappointed. The blurb made it sound very sexy and dark. I wad expecting lots of poor taste sex scenes every few pages. There were 2 scenes and neither of then was particularly racy.

The book was just boring to me. It borrowed names and a few ideas from Oz, but didn't do anything interesting. I must be hard to come up with anything unique as the story has been reworked many times already. I wish the author had just turned it into a full on sex fest or had dropped all the references and made it an unrelated story.

Ooooooh, and? How does it compare to Almost Life? I thought that was beautifully written but I was bored in places and willing it to be over by the end.
I missed off the key info (too hot!).. I preferred it! I felt much more engaged with the characters, like you - I was happy for Almost Life to be over.

Piggybacking off @Harlot O'Scara's hard work and made a List Challenges version of the list! https://www.listchallenges.com/book-threads-favourite-books

(One of my favourite time-wasting sites, but I made a new profile for this for privacy! Also was vague on the description so we don't attract visitors)
Fantastic idea thank you.

I have only read 39 of them but do have a lot sitting on my shelf or in my Kindle waiting for me to decide to read them.

I love this idea, our book lists are way better than the pretentious ones, I feel like I would wnjoy most of them

I’m halfway through reading. I invited her in! By Adele Parks.
Nothing of note has happened yet and I’m finding that I’m skim reading some of the chapters … way too much unnecessary detail, in my opinion.

My question is, is it worth continuing with it? 🥴

Okay, I finished East of Eden. Definitely worth reading.

Some random thoughts:

I knew very little about the book going in. I spent ages (lots of room for contemplation since I listened to it over two weeks) trying to work out what the Hamiltons had to do with the story - did Olive marry Adam, for eg - and then realised it was all set up to have a Steinbeck narrate.

I can't believe Cathy's favourite book is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland! I also think Florence Pugh is a great choice to play her... but the Netflix adaptation calls her an antihero, and she's not. I'm not sure how keen I am for an adaptation centring her, though I thought she was a great character.

Cal was my favourite - I found the last part of the book really easy to get through. I was also hoping to see what had become of Charles, outside of the lawyer letter.

Adam bored me, so I'm going to pretend the twins were Charles's, which the narrative would seem to indicate anyway.

Thank you @daisynoon, great work pulling that together!

I've only read 25 on the list that I know of, I reckon there's at least 7 I think I've read but don't remember and probably about 15 I've purchased and haven't got round to reading yet.

I might think about making it into a Storygraph challenge so I can try my best to work through most, I won't say all as I know I will never read some of them.

Now thats a good idea. I did wonder whether we could pin the link at the top of each thread so we know where to find it.

Oh dear, I’ve not read many.

Not gonna lie, I started A little life and only got 1% in before I gave up 🙈
I have however downloaded a fair amount off the list for my next holiday ✈☀

I picked up Wild Swans at a community book swap event a few weeks ago. It’s a chunk of a book!
Hunting for this in a charity shop as want to read it again but think am going to have to go with a 'world of books' order...they have a buy 3 get one free offer on...so might hunt down a few more from the list!

98 of 272 on the list! I also found myself going 'oooh' at some books before realising it was me that voted for them 🤣
