Just finished Liza Minnelli's autobiography.
A solid 4*
No idea why I got it as she's not really been on my radar.
Maybe I was influenced to read it.
The more I got into it the more it grabbed me. She seems to have been really honest in putting her life story straight to correct what other people have said about her life.
Quite often I realised I had tears pouring down my face when I was reading.
Then I got to the bit about the 2022 academy awards when they ripped her dignity away from her. She really disliked Lady Gaga after that.
It’s helpful to offset some of the darker online material. Sometimes we need a reminder that people can be good that said, some of the stories are devastating. I’ve lost nights going down rabbit holes.
I have read the first few chapters of the 'sexy wizard of Oz' book and I am really not impressed by the writing. The book is written in first person, with some chapters from other character pov in 3rd.
The writing is so lazy, there is no flavour to it at all. It is written mostly in first person, but doesn't give you any sense of the narrators personality beyond ' generic women'.
The writer also does this really annoying thing that I have seen other bad writers do. They use lots of short sentences, and when they want something to sound dramatic they put a sentence on its own line as if it is a paragraph.
It feels like it is written by the same person who writes all this bizarre long rambling Facebook posts about some event or person that you are supposed to care about. I am never sure if it is just a popular writing style for idiots or evidence of AI.
Stuff that goes something like.
Mary Smith was 25 when he husband died. He left her with 5 children to feed.
What was she to do?
Other women would have given up.
Mary worked hard. She raised her children. She started a shoe lace making business from her home.
Then she opened a store
Then she opened a franchise.
Before long she owned the biggest shoelace company is northern Alaska.
Who is telling people to write like this? Please make them stop.

I’ve just remembered, I totally should have had Misery by Stephen King in my top ten!! I still remember the massively loud gasp I did during the most infamous scene when reading it on a very crowded bus about 17 years ago.
At first I thought it was a bit boring and it could have been a DNF.
But I persevered and realised it was actually settling the scene just before main character loses the plot.
I'm now spluttering with shock
Cross fingers it gets better and better.
She's now wondering if she was abducted by aliens and has returned with no filter.
I'm loving how she spoke to her boss.

Quoting myself.
This book is getting better and better. I've had to put it down cos I was laughing so much I couldn't see and my stomach was convulsing.
