Maybe hyped is too strong a word but it’s certainly one of the books that crops up on the Best Books lists a lot. I’m pretty sure that’s how I came across it because it’s probably not something i would have picked up otherwise.

I totally get the pressure of returning to a long standing favourite book. Feeling the same thing about my plan to reread East of Eden before the Netflix versions comes out.
Oh to be fair it did win a Booker, I didn’t realise that. It’s free on Prime so I might risk it for a biscuit. It’s only 350 pages too, I thought it was longer. Oh wait, that mightn’t be a good sign 🤣🫣

Amazon just recommended me a book called ' West of Wicked'. It is described as a sexy spicy dark wizard of oz retelling.

I have read the blurb and it appears that Dorothy shags either the tin man or scarecrow or both. It costs 99p. I am going to have to read this out of morbid curiosity.

you are absolutely not wrong 🤣 who would pick the SCARECROW out of all those options?!
It depends if it’s just based on The Wizard of Oz, or if Wicked also comes into the equation because of course in Wicked Fieryo becomes the Scarecrow so actually that sounds like a better option than Boq/the Tinman! And another reason for the wicked witch to be pissed off with Dorothy - stealing her shoes and her fella!

I'm so glad to see so much love for A Tree Grows In Brooklyn in so many people's top 10s. That is my cosy, comforting read. I have gifted it to so many people.

I once recommended it on this thread about 4 years ago and everyone then hated it!

Has anyone read This Is How We Are Human by Louise Beech? Omg what a beautiful book

Just found this thread 5 pages in, didnt realise a new one had started, but just to say I also loved Gone With The Wind, read it twice but that was a long while ago. I really struggle with any book being called 'problematic', I think all books are important to show our progression as a society and how life was in the Deep South in the 1860s is a story that needs to be told and learned from. I think as adults we are perfectly capable of deciding not to read a book if we dont like the content.

It is in my top ten book list. I adore Sebastian. Louise Beech has a beautiful way of making her characters leap off of the page and become real.

Sebastian is still my favourite though!

I just loved it, it really got to me, so much so i gave it 5 stars. I wasnt sure whether I wanted to read it, the storyline seemed a bit weird, but im really glad I did and it turns out it wasnt that weird after all!
