I've just read THE EXAMINER by Janice Hallett, told in messages and emails.
I thought it was great.

Apologies if it, or the author, has been discussed previously.

Edit: sorry, I see the author has already been discussed. My bad.

If you liked The Examiner I would love to recommend The Appeal by Janice Hallett too- similar format in that it’s told via emails, messages, etc. If you enjoy that kind of story telling I think you will enjoy The Appeal (and maybe The Killer Question) too!

Started The Amateur Marriage by my fave Anne Tyler late December and finished early January, so technically not my first book of the year. Flipping loved it.
Then zoomed through I Hope This Finds You Well by Natalie Sue. Flipping loved that too. And a debut. 👏 Think she has another coming out this year. Highly recommend it.

Finished Bunny by Mona Awad. Wondering if maybe I'm just a bit thick but I really didn't get it. I've read what it's supposedly about what, yeah, nah. 1/5 for me.

New book is Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid.

Read Bookish 'cause I wanted to like the TV series but Mark Gatiss doing his "mysterious" voice does my bits in so couldn't watch it. It was okay. Felt like it tried to be too clever. And also, Mark, we get it, you wish you were Sherlock Holmes.

Now reading The Lion Women of Tehran and loving it so far.

Panicked that all my amazon wishlists had gone this morning - but somehow had been logged out of my account - phew!!!!!

I'm still trying to work my way through my kindle back log and reading a book about the Romans and murder - its fascinating if hard going because the names are not at all familiar or easy to read. Also keep having weird dreams after.... I wonder why!!!

Introducing Mrs Collins is a Kindle daily deal today. I know it was on my wish list because of recommendations on here (can’t remember who from, sorry!) so thought there might be others who want it too!

I thought to myself this morning that I must have a nose at the January deals to see if there’s anything else I want to pick up!
Potentials are
Riley sagar - the only one left
Lucy score - things we never get over
Margaret Atwood - maddaddam

id maybe also consider writers and lovers only because @LaBlonde also enjoyed the book I will never shut up about and that means I tried her judgment.

but I CANNOT buy another four. I’ve read four books so far this month, and I still have thirty unread on my kindle. The Margaret Atwood one is the third in a series and I loved the first book (Oryx and Crake) but haven’t read it in years, and the second is obviously still full price 🙄

I wouldn’t bother with The Only One Left. I found it to be one of the most overhyped books ever. In my opinion, nothing happens! It’s not gripping in any way and anyone who says they couldn’t put it down must be lying because it just dragged and dragged in my eyes. I was so disappointed!

Just finished The Wedding People. Honestly? Im not sure whether i enjoyed it or not. Felt a bit of a chore to read but I did like some of the characters - Phoebe and Juice especially. There were also some bits that made me giggle so I ended up giving it 3.5 stars

Last night I finished the second book in Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy: Shadow of Night.
I found it similar to eating really a nice slice of cake with a toothpick. Vaguely enjoyable but incredibly slow. 742 Kindle pages later and barely anything has been added to the plot. Sadly I’m going to have to read the third one as I bought all 3 books in one as a Kindle 99p deal so I’m only on 67% of the ‘book’ and the completionist in me can’t leave it like that. I’ll be reading a couple of quick, easy sugar books before attempting it as a palette cleanser though. I will NOT be buying the newer 4th and 5th book, even for 99p! They have been removed from my wish list.

At the start of the month I finished the Second Gentleman guys by Scott Lynch book: Red Seas Under Red Skies. Despite the main plot on the blurb at the back being a very small part at the beginning and end of the book with a massive ‘tangent plot’ that makes up the 500ish middle pages, I enjoyed it. I’m very impressed at the way he can jump back to the past almost every other chapter as well as having characters both use their real names and their alias names many times on the same page and you can still understand what is going on and who is talking. It’s a shame he struggles so much with submitting manuscripts as I’ve only got one left to read. This start of this year seems to be a very long book month!

This is exactly what I’m here for, thank you. Struck off my list forever.
Ive no idea what any of them are about, I’m just a sucker for hype.
