I sound like a stuck record but again, PHM. I often find I enjoy SciFi much more than I’d expect to.
If you rate books what was your average rating and/or sum up your year of reading?
3.63. I think I was pickier with my 5 stars this year too. I have 4, whereas last year was double that.
Have you pre-ordered any books for 2026 yet / which books are you most looking forward to being released?
I don’t tend to look ahead to what’s being released but will always look forward to reading anything new by certain authors, including Gillian McAllister, Lisa Jewell, TM Logan and KL Slater.
Do you have a list of books you are aiming to read next year or do you have any reading goals for the year ahead?
Continuing to go through my kindle alphabetically to reduce numbers there.
Reading physical books in the evenings as that pile is now mounting and I want to be off my phone in the evenings. I just can’t settle with a physical book as easily during the day.
I also want to restart the Will Trent series so I can read them all in order, and continue with the Strike books.

Looking at my e-audio books list it would have to be MC Beatons or Georgette Heyers as I try to listen to books I've read already, as my attention span is not good, but I have started to listen to books being read on You Tube. The reader keeps me awake by expressing her outrage etc about what she's reading

Susannah Constantine's autobiography Ready For Absolutely Nothing and her obsession with her bowels. Hell would freeze over before I'd have confessed to things she did!

Probably because I tend to read recommended books along with favourite authors
It was a year I intended to read all of the Georgette Heyer Regency novels I haven't read, the M C Beaton historical themed books I haven't read yet, the S J Bennett royal series and the Miss Read books. Add in all the books people said I must read, then no wonder my average book rating was so high!

I've dipped in and out of quite a few non-fiction books this year which I've liked but now that I think about it I haven't finished any of them yet!

No Audiobooks this year! Though I've recently bought a few with my credits on Audible so perhaps in the new year?

I've mentioned before I fell into the R. F. Kuang hype and bought Katabasis because I thought the premise was interesting. I did not finish it. So...I'm less surprised and more annoyed at myself for getting caught up in hype

Also Queen and Countess by Anne O’Brien - I love historical fiction and Anne’s books are some of the best and better than Phillipa Gregory

I read probably more non fiction than fiction
Cacophony of Bone by Kerri ni Dochartaigh is quite possibly the most beautiful book I’ve ever read
I’m glad my mom died by Jeanette McCurdy was a raw read
The Mystery of Princess Louise, The Witches:Salem 1692, All the Presidents Men, How to be a bad botanist and Killing Thatcher were all really good reads too

Little women surprised me by how lovely it was. Wuthering heights surprised me by how bloody miserable it is and unromantic!!!!

My reading goal is always 52 books a year but I smashed it this year (currently on 100 - would be more but I seem to have got into the darts) - I will probably stick with it at 52 but my plan is just to read as much as I can!! I don’t plan and am very much an interest based reader and one book will lead to another and so on so it’s impossible to make any plans. I have also decided that despite having over 500 physical books and 500 kindle books to read I am not having a book buying ban cos books are life and it could be worse - I could be hooked on drugs.

I finished the Christmas escape by Sarah Morgan - really loved it especially after my other two festive books were quite disappointing.
I am going to squeeze one more festive book in and decided it’s time to read The Gift by Cecelia Ahern once and for all, it’s been on my bookshelf for ages and it never really appeals because other Xmas books appeal more. If I don’t read it now then it will be put aside until next Xmas again.
I added it to Goodreads in 2015 but when I looked at the book this morning, I saw it was published in 2009 and I bought it new!!!
So I’ve looked back at some old photos and I can see it on my bookshelf in a photo taken in January 2011!!! that’s the earliest photo I could find with my bookcase in the background so it’s still very possible I bought it the year it was published.
So it’s been collecting dust for at least 15 years, maybe 17. It’s really now or never…

Yes, I've seen that, but I don't have the email with the fun stats yet - I just know how many pages I read and what the most popular book I read was. One of my friends got hers on Saturday, so I think they're just filtering out slowly
