I got 3 from my husband. I hate when he buys me books he always gets it wrong and absolutely did do so again! 2 books i would never read, or even think about reading and 1 book i already read. I mean, what's wrong with book tokens ffs! They will go in the charity shop dump bin

I got one book for Christmas - Alchemised by SenLinYu which I did want out of pure intrigue to read as a HP fan and seeing lots of hype. My sister got it too so I think we will do a buddy read.

I started Good Spirits last night and I’m about 60 pages in and quite enjoying it so far! I didn’t know how well it would be written but I think the writing is quite good!

I would say wish lists are the way forward but my husband doesn’t always stick to them (I’ve got ten ffs ) - it’s so annoying when there’s so many we do want!!

I have that Bronte set - the covers are gorgeous. I need to actually read them though.

I still have my A Level copy of Jane Eyre which I also did for GCSE and have read it since too and a couple of the others but these will sit nicely next to my Austen set

My husband actually hit pay dirt with his book gifts this year. I do suspect my 14 year old daughter has my wish list open while she read some books out.

I'm going to have to get some more books from WOB or similar.
DH usually gets me 3 or 4 and this year he was saying the usual thing "Don't get yourself any books unless you check with me first". So I didn't check about any because it spoils the surprise but didn't get any either.
And just one book.
I'm really pleased with my other lovely presents and am not complaining but I've got a bit of literary ground to make up.

tbf its only the 2026 almanac I want and a christmas crochet book so I'm ready for next year - I've decided I'm not making stoopid resolutions about not buying books next year - I'm going to carry on with wild abandon!

This is the only book I had on my list that I got for Christmas, can’t wait to read it (I only asked for one as I prefer to buy on kindle or charity shops).

I also went ahead with buying that book I was after earlier on the thread, from AbeBooks via a business in the USA. For £15 total so cheaper than anything available in the UK.

The Dinner Guest by BP Walter
Six Days, Six Hours, Six Minutes by Alex Smith (yes, that one!)

Both have got off to promising starts and I’d selected the second from the Audible deals before realising who it was by.

Been a while since I've been on here. Haven't managed to get up to date with the Strike books. Still on the running grave but haven't read any the past few days. I was making a cross stitch for my Mum for Xmas so didn't get much reading done. Should finish trg by the end of the year.
Got two books from my mum for xmas( along with all the books I recently bought for myself). Got The Gilda Stories and Never Let Me Go. Good thing I happened to look towards the end of the latter as it randomly stopped in the middle of a sentence. Got a replacement but never had something like that happen before.

I cleared about 8 books from my physical TBR today, ones that I know I won't read (silly supermarket purchases I bought during the year because they were cheap). However, with gifts and the voucher I just spent I have about 8 books to replace the ones I purged

I WILL try to buy less books impulsively in 2026. And try to borrow more instead. I don't have the space. But as the Christmas books were gifts....I won't beat myself up, plus, it's still 2025.

As for reading goals, I think I'll keep my target lower because I was stressing for absolutely no reason with my stretch target.

I'm nearing the end of a book I've been putting off and putting off. I must have renewed it about 4 or 5 times as I just didn't have the time to read it.
All the while I'm asking myself why did you request it as it's not your normal go to book. A quick search told me that Twilightgarden has mentioned the author, but not this book in particular. Head scratch time!
Anyway in the lull after Christmas i've had time to sit down and read it and i've been totally hooked, on the edge of my seat, heart pounding at times. Thought I knew whodunnit, but I was totally wrongfooted.
I'm having a rest before I hit the final bit of the book.
Oh it's called It's Always The Husband by C. L. Taylor.

It's strange isn't it when a book is like that. A slow start or it's just not the right book for that time for you, you keep picking it up, read a few pages and sigh and think "should I DNF?" Then one day you pick it up and the stars align (or whatever) and it's the best thing since sliced bread!

I'm glad it hooked you in the end.

I’m not going to hit 100 books but I’m currently even with last year so I’m happy with that.
