I really enjoyed The Shell Seekers, too. I have September on my TBR.Another person who loved Winter Solsticeit’s my favourite book and I can’t wait to re-read it each year
I've read all the Elizabeth Jane Howard Cazalet Chronicles and was looking for a similar author. Pilcher writes so effortlessly.
Yes! I read The Shell Seekers earlier this year and enjoyed it. And September is on my TBR. I planned to read it this September but missed it so I think I’ll have to wait til September 2026
@SoulDestroyer @wishiniwasskinny I read September last year, it seemed quite long and not much happened.some friends that had read and love The Shell Seekers thought the same so don’t be too sad you’ve got to wait 10 months!

I couldn’t get Christmas Carol to load on my kindle so have started the Elizabeth Chadwick Eleanor of Aquataine series as I’ve been listening to podcasts about her so think that’s my Xmas reads done

I finished it tonight. It was nowhere near as good as Happy Bloody Christmas but it was an easy read to occupy me while my son and husband played on the PS5. I only finished it an hour ago and I’ve already forgotten who did it!I'm DNFing Another Bloody Christmas.
I’ve moved onto Christmas Day by Mikayla David’s. It’s a short story on KU. It seems an alright little read.
@Katykatykaty I read this 2 years ago and didn't think much of it in fact it was my least favourite read of 2023.
Was sad to hear today that Joanna Trollope died yesterday, I read her take on Sense and Sensibility earlier this year and enjoyed it. RIP doyen of the Aga saga
If Inished it in less than an hour and thought it was alright. Definitely not the worst I’ve read this year - that honour goes to The Hospital by A.G. Twist! Christmas Day at least kept me hooked in enough to do it one sitting.
Ask your library to purchase it.Urgh so I read an article about a hiking tragedy and this book has come highly recommended but it doesn’t seem like it was published in the UK and costs £19 quid from Amazon US for a 200 page paperback.
I’ve checked WOB, eBay and vinted but no luck. It’s on audible for £12.99 without credit (I might be able to get an audible deal) but I really don’t get on with audiobooks very well. Not on kindle.
I think I want it even more now I can’t seem to get itany other tips or would I just have to suck up the cost?

We buy books in for customers all the time, even obscure ones! Someone requested how to survive a grizzly bear attack and we ordered it in
i live the furthest place away that a grizzly would ever attack.
Me too, thought it was so funny and it also had some sensitive parts I thought were done well.

I think it’s a DNF for me unfortunately.
The setting doesn’t really connect for me, though I quite enjoyed the short insight on colonialism, the characters don’t really do anything for me and the writing is eh
At the start I felt like it was quite similar to 150 years of solitude as I read- which isn’t good as I found that a bit of a slog to get through - but at least that had a narrative to it. This is just pages and pages of very little happening
it’s a shame, I quite liked the premise of exploring generational trauma but I think that’s probably better suited for a non-fiction book
I’m also half convinced that a lot of the reviews for this book are bought. I remember reading some of them and they’d just end suddenly mid-sentence and it just seemed odd

Stand outs for me include Remarkably Bright Creatures, The Magnolia Parks series, Prima Facie, None of this is True and Project Hail Mary.
I have 3 credits to use before cancelling and like to use them wisely!

I’m enjoying Miss Benson’s Beetle on audio at the moment.
