I’m just catching up, and I think with trigger warnings it’s the unexpectedness for me in certain books that’s an issue. For example if you didn’t want to read about murder, you’d stay away from thrillers and police procedural. If you picked up a fluffy romance and it turned slasher novel half way through you’d be a bit ‘wtf, I’d never have picked that up had I known’. If you didn’t want to see trigger warnings, you literally don’t have to read that page

I’m reading Onyx Storm this weekend! Excited!

I am within touching distance of being able to get new books and it is stressing me out, but in a nice way. I am so conscious now of only buying what I know I will read. I know I will get used to buying fewer books than I did in the past and keeping a list for the future and then seeing if I do actually want that book when the time comes.

My deal with myself is no more than eight on my tbr from now on.

There is a Louise Beech book, Redhead by the Side of the Road by Anne Tyler, Sometimes People Die by Simon Stephenson.

I was doing so well in tackling my kindle TBR pile and then signed up for unlimited for 3 months at the bargain price of 99p.

But this is more my style

I'm in awe. And I look forward to hearing how much you saved, because I dread to think how much I have spent the past two years

at one point for a few yrs i used to write down the cost of everything i got from the library.

I tell you what this joining a new library and consortium has been a revelation. I have found all kinds of books on there via Libby I can read on my laptop and its knocked a load off my amazon wishlist. ON top of that I have read a few i'd have been mad to have paid for so saved the money that way. Pity i didnt do this yrs ago as i have seen so many on there i have bought in the past and mostly not read yet

I did always suspect though that our library was actually more pants than it appeared/people thought. I used to have to buy loads of books on Kindle even on deals because our library didnt get them when clearly others have.

I have read zero books in May so far! I hate being in a slump but I don't want to force it

I've started Time Shelter and stopped and then I've dipped my toes in Women Living Deliciously but it feels so heavy in terms of topic I can't really read much in one sitting.

I realise I’ve read so much more this year because I’ve read much lighter ‘easier’ books - I’m not totally sure how I feel about that but it is what it is. I think mood and where you are in life influences what you read and can read so much

Just finished Adelaide- what a great book!

I adore the adelaide and I saw so much of my younger self in her, especially when it came to relationships.

Would really recommend, a 5 from me

Has anyone else come across the account of Steven James Reece? He’s a guy on book Instagram/has a substack etc. I quite like his content! Anyway, he has a categorisation system for types of readers and has put together a quiz. It’s very accurate for me (A Yellow Reader) would be curious how my fellow tattle book lovers find it!

Is it too much to ask?

I was looking at ‘The Names’ on Tuesday and the headline quote is ‘best debut novel in years’ - now my expectations have been raised and I’m probably going to be disappointed.

it's pathetic of me i know but i'm finding it exciting. I have been so down this last yr since we lost our fight for our local. Its fantastic I have other options including better digital ones but at the same time VERY sad that we are now getting nothing for our council tax money. Library was the only thing we use...

Sometimes the self help strategies do not work. The medication doesnt work. The therapy and the work you do every single day doesnt work. You spiral and you end up in a place you swore you'd never be again.

Sometimes the actual advice can be to avoid, from your mental health professional, despite showing up for yourself every single day and clawing your way back from the depths of hell.

I have had input from probably every sort of professional you could imagine. If I could just pull myself together and do the work and everything be great forever more believe me Id do it. I do, do it but sometimes it isnt enough.

Im sorry youve went through what you have and you have great resilience to get through it and manage it

Not everyone who would benefit from triggers are expecting everyone else to bow to them and shelter them, theyre looking for grace to complement the effort they put in every day to survive.

Im also so grateful for all the input and support Ive had to get me where I am. So many people are floundering on waiting lists and systems and can't be seen to even get the ball rolling on strategies to help them cope

I'm actually a clinical psych, with my own issues, but this is a book thread and not a come to Jesus one. I will always put an emphasis on personal responsibility though.

Now, back on topic. What are we all reading this weekend?

I think I am going to pick up either The Profiler by Helen Fields or Sociopath by Patric Gange.

Just started ‘All the other mothers hate me’. No clue how I will feel about this book, but love the opening line.

The missing boy is 10 year old Alfie Risby and to be perfectly honest with you, he’s a little shit

It’s so demoralising isn’t it - I do my best and my life is so tiny it will make no difference really either way but right now I’m not feeling so guilty if something goes in the wrong bin because I’m having a bad day

it gets worse tbh because my flatmate who hyper consumes from Amazon looks at stuff online and says whats the point of uk moving over from gas and oil etc when there's China out there polluting like their life depends on it and makes me and my huge efforts feel stupid..

If it helps i remember this phrase one of my eco Youtubers says... you cannot do all the good the world needs but the world needs all the good you can do

I feel like the Strike series just gets better the further it goes on. JKR says she has another 2/3 books in her for the series.
