I had so so many books and sold them all on Vinted to clear my bookshelves.
So what do you do then but naturally refill them, obviously
I’ve now got lots of new books to read and il be kept busy for a while.

Definitely don't need any more books, but my husband (been together 18 years) has just decided to leave me, so need retail therapy. I'm in the middle of a health kick so dont want to buy clothes as they won't fit me in a fortnight, likewise "bad" food, so books it is! Popped in waterstones and got these.

that’s a great haul! i LOVE the look of the crime scene one, i love puzzle books and it looks so fun.

I might read A Flicker.... first and see why it is a 4* worthy, amnesia inducing book.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a proof copy of Kate Sawyer's new novel that is out in July, Getting Away. Definitely my favourite read of April and you should all preorder it

I am within touching distance of being able to get new books and it is stressing me out, but in a nice way. I am so conscious now of only buying what I know I will read. I know I will get used to buying fewer books than I did in the past and keeping a list for the future and then seeing if I do actually want that book when the time comes.

My deal with myself is no more than eight on my tbr from now on.

There is a Louise Beech book, Redhead by the Side of the Road by Anne Tyler, Sometimes People Die by Simon Stephenson.

I’ve never read an Emily Henry. I’ve put Funny Story on my 25 to read in 2025 list for this year. Seeing her new one is getting hype and also is Reese Witherspoons book club pick this month. Not sure if I’m going to like her.

I hope you do like her!!

I loved Funny Story, and really liked most of hers. My favorite is Book Lovers. I did not like Happy Place at all. I liked the new one but it wasn't like a book of my heart.

I personally don't think books destined to be best sellers anyway should be celeb book club picks. Like try to even out the playing field a bit, Reese.

How quickly do you pick up a new book?

From the last page of one to the firstpage of the next?

The books I read just as books I can pick the next one up later that day/tomorrow.

But some books (Sebastian - This is How We Are Human) give me a hangover and I need to sit with that. And then others - The Strike series I need to sit and process all the parts of the book.

I generally will just start the next one, but in some cases definitely find that I need a day or two to process and if I try to start something else too soon I find I just can't really settle into a new book.

We were away this weekend so not much reading time, except for during the car journeys (husband was driving) and I really got into Famous Last Words by Gillian McAllister. Has anyone read it? I've got about 10% left to read and can't wait to finish it. WFH today so hopeful that I can get a good shift in this morning with what I need to get done today and find some time over lunch to finish it. Work is such an inconvenience at times

I have to know what I’m reading next as soon as I finish a book. I’ve generally forgotten 90% of the book about five minutes after finishing it, so no lingering on anything for me. If I don’t have the next book lined up and perhaps a couple pages started as soon as the last book is done, I don’t always have the motivation to go back and read at the next opportunity.

What do Waterstones stamps do?? I've not got any.......?

At standard rate for every £10 you spend you get 1 stamp. Or if you spend under £10 you'll get half a stamp. Once you reach 10 stamps you can get £10 off anything.

If youre clever and order just with double or triple stamps its like basically getting 20%/30% off.

I find for most books now except brand new big releases Waterstones are competitively priced. They also do free delivery over £25, even if your pre order comes over 2 or 3 dates.

I had £60 in stamps recently but used £20 of them as part payment a few weeks ago. Its definitely a good scheme with no cons if you buy books anyway.

I’m half way through A Court of Frost and Starlight. I’m loving the series but why do I feel like Feyre is a terrible artist? I just imagine her doing stupid little kid drawings and everyone humouring her!

yep! though not as much as i used to be - have a creative writing degree, used to write a lot of (cough cough) online fiction but haven’t done for years now. i really want to get back to it as it brought me so much joy, but i’m very slow and it’s hard to get into the right mood for it

20,592 hours.

And the money I have saved, I know I asked for guesses the other week - not one of you was even close. I am embarrassed to say I have saved £4678.70p.

£60.39 on 99p books. - I would have bought these and they would have been bloatware on my Kindle aside from a few of them.

£2578.31 - on 369 new books hardback/paperbook that were not on WOB yet,l I buy from Indie book shops so pay rrp and not cheapyt Amazon prices. I would probably not even have read about 50% of these.

£1020 - on WOB.

£1,019 - on sprayed edges, special editions, clothbounds etc.

That is a staggering £4678.70p in almost 2.5 years. On average £38 a week . Almost £2k a year.

I realise I am in a privileged position to be able to spend so much on books but watching that amount add up in an account, I moved the amount I would have spent into a saving accout. Once it really started getting closer to £500 it became quite a fun challenge to see how far it could go.

No idea it would be so much. Here's to making better choices, both for me, from a consumerism pov and from an environmental one.

To read A Flicker in the Dark and get a side dose of amnesia....

This is amazing! Well done you and great to have that savings pot at the end.

You're a real inspiration. I think of you every time I look at my kindle library and I'm determined to get the numbers down.

Lucky Night was my favourite of all them and read it quickly. Definitely not for someone who needs lots of action in a book as it is just one couple in a hotel room over one night for the entire book.

always with the book buying ban until i’m in waterstones and it would be rude not to and i may as well pop in the works while i’m in town and if i’m ordering something from amazon anyway then why would i NOT add at least six books.

i literally bought a little book trolley this week to cope with the overflow from my shelves. and when i bought the trolley i also BOUGHT THREE BOOKS which have now already half filled the trolley. help me.
