Me last night: I’m really inspired by the people not buying any books until they’ve cleared the backlog of their TBR stash. I should definitely do that.

Me this morning: sees Harper Collins has 40% off all books until Friday and immediately adds £30 worth of books to my basket.

Lads I have just looked at Hammersmith library online including a virtual tour...and its made me well up.. that's a proper library... huge, has all kinds going on, lots of different facilities for recycling etc etc.. it even tells you the days your book holds come in and just look at this wording

Deliveries arrive twice a week, early on Tuesdays and Fridays. To have the best weekend, curled up with your favourite book , pick up your reservation before we close on Fridays or early on Saturday.

That's people who loves books and understanding reading.

They also have the book I've been trying to get hold of for 5 yrs... the one thats ruddy 12 quid on Kindle

Back on topic, I just finished Butcher and Blackbird and I need to remember that I am nearly 36 and stop trying to read what the cool youths are into.

I begrudge the nanny state wading into art, absolutely.

Respectfully you have absolutely no idea the lengths I go to, to keep myself here. Of course my mental health is solely my problem. Choosing what to consume and what not to consume helps with that and the person dealing with that believe it or not, is me.

Totally agree about older books and context of the time they were written. How do you learn about the history of people, places, attitudes etc if they’re erased. By all means critique and discuss historical context but don’t remove it.

Yes, I was really thinking about older books, society has progressed since they were written but I think they should be read within the context of the time they were written. I grew up reading Roald Dahl and I hate seeing his work pulled apart like it has been recently. So many children (and adults) love his work.

I detest when the cover has 'now a major blockbuster film' or 'now a major Netflix series' on the cover, in the style of a sticker but it's not actually a sticker and is part of the cover design itself....like whhhhyyyyyy. Just put an easily removable sticker on it, or a sign on the shelf near the book...

and when they change the cover to match the film that really annoys me.

i went to that site SO FAST when i read lessons in chemistry

trigger warnings are a tricky one for me because my own triggers are so niche and never included in any list even if there is one. i just don’t know if it’s possible to include everything that an individual might find upsetting and i’ve been caught out so many times. ideally the synopsis should make the obvious ones clear but even then i don’t know if you can ever appropriately protect everyone.
