I’ve read Verity by CH and it was also a book that ended up insinuating DV at the end. I flew through it but thought it was terrible really. So decided not to read anymore Colleen Hoover. I think this film was a bad idea. People seem to think it’s a romcom cos Blake L is doing the promo trail dressed like a bouquet of flowers and talking all positively about Lily Bloom and how wonderful it is

Haven’t been on this thread for two whole weeks whilst I’ve been on holiday. I had 18 pages (front and back!) to catch up on

I read one book whilst away but it was a busy holiday so I’m impressed with even that. It was The Wrong Sister by Claire Douglas. I can’t remember who read that here recently but I remembered you saying you were a little disappointed with the ending and I agree. However, I did find it easy to keep picking up and reading small parts of whilst away, so that’s a good thing I guess. Sometimes I get so lost with a book if I read that way.

I also bought Someone in the Attic by Andrea Mara (a third through and it was keeping my interest but I just couldn’t keep up with two books whilst away) and Blue Sisters can’t wait to start that one.

ETA I also started Redemption by Jack Jordan on the plane home. I flew through Do No Harm when I read that so hoping for good things here too planning on a weekend of nothing so here’s to some good reading.

Reached my Goodreads goal of 80 books today now going to aim for 100 by the end of the year.

Not that it matters about numbers as numbers shouldn't matter but does anyone else on here set themselves a reading goal? Are you on track if you set yourself a goal?

I got back into reading towards the end of last year and set myself a goal to read 50 this year. I'm currently on 37 but been in a reading slump over the past couple of months. Hoping I can do it!

Finished The Women last night by Kristen Hannah. 5/5. Absolutely loved it.

I did feel some of the dialogue was overly cheesy in places (the gung ho 'Seahawks' for instance) but I imagine this is probably quite historically accurate. I read the author's note at the end and all the acknowledgments and sounds like she did a shit ton of research. I thought she really did a good job of portraying a believable story (I know it was based on real life experiences), weaving in the social commentary throughout but not in a forced way, and the response to returning veterans and how women were not just excluded from all that but many tried to completely deny there were even any women present. Loved all the music references throughout also. Anyway I found the whole thing so absorbing and powerful.

I set my target as 52 but I’m already on 63 so upped it to 75 recently… tentatively wondering if I can get to 100! Although I really want to read a few longer books (Goldfinch, Mistborn 2, Strike 4) before the year is over and don’t want the target to put me off.

4/6 were audio books. 2 years ago I'd never contemplate an audiobook, now I'm listening more than I read.

Finished The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley last night and was gripped right from the start. Solid 4* from me. Also another older book ticked off my TBR on my kindle, slowly getting there.

Are they 99p each? Buy them all and you’ve spent £4.95. You can’t buy anything these days for £4.95, let alone 5 books.
Think of how many hours of entertainment they will give you, let’s say 5 hours/book. That’s less than 20p per hour. You can’t buy anything for 20p/hour.

Finished Hello Beautiful this evening. Oh my word! Loved it. It's easily a 5* for me and deserves all the plaudits.

My goal was 125 (read 122 last year so thought that should be doable for sure) but I haven't read as much this year so I went down to 115 and now to 100 because seeing '10 books behind' was very demotivating, so I am aiming for a 100 now and everything more than that will be a nice bonus. I do love having a goal but once it becomes a chore it is no longer fun.

My colleague and I compared TBRs today. I have 130ish unread books on my Kindle, which was actually quite surprising to me She has 450ish physical unread books in her house Stresses me out thinking about it! I'm a Kindle girlie for life now
