my august reads, otherwise known as try and read as many random romances i keep buying in the works as i can 🤣 mostly meh, but two fun surprises:

the happiest ever after - milly johnson ⭐⭐
it happened one summer - tessa bailey ⭐⭐
love redesigned - lauren asher ⭐⭐1/2
under your spell - laura wood ⭐⭐⭐⭐
the second chance year - melissa wiesner ⭐⭐
the co-op - tarah dewitt ⭐⭐
cross the line - simone soltani ⭐⭐⭐1/2

have to admit to skipping about a hundred pages of the co-op so i can’t fully count it as a read. i say again, what happened to pacing in romance novels. what happening to pining?

have now hit 64 books though, only 6 to go to reach my goodreads target 🙌🏻

Is it weird that I feel a bit sad tonight that there’s just SO MANY books and SO LITTLE time.

I’m reading The Silence In Between at the moment and enjoying it. It’s breaking my heart that Lisette and Axel are separated though.

The deals are really good this month. I bought 16 books that were on my wishlist today! I've added a couple of others to consider over the course of the month but I don't put it past future me to buy those too 😬

The beauty of reading exclusively on Kindle is that my husband doesn't see how many books I buy each month!

longtime readers of this thread will also know that my local waterstones employ the future mr lablonde (not that he is currently aware of this) so an added bonus 🫣
Still can't believe you haven't made your move and sent us all invites to your Waterstones wedding.

Only 4 for me this month and it’s a total mixed bag. The Unwedding and The Housemaid is Watching were both nothing special and I wouldn’t rush to read them. The Guncle and The Suspect were both great. I think The Guncle is one of my favourites I’ve read all year and I love the Rob Rinder series, hoping for a third!

Hi 🙋🏻‍♀️ went a bit MIA. August has been a month 😭 reading has slowed to not much at all as I just can’t concentrate. Is anyone finding the increasing heaviness of the news affecting them? I feel like I just haven’t got any oomph to do anything and that includes reading 😔 my youngest who had ASD is ripping EVERYTHING, I have no Julia Donaldson books left 💔💔 and he ripped my library book so yeah for me having to explain that!
Anyway I have managed 3 books in August.
Brain Damage - Freida McF 4⭐
Rachel’s Holiday - Marian Keyes (audio) 4⭐ I really enjoyed it even though it was a bit long
When She Returned - Lucinda Berry 4⭐

So I've just re-read the main huger games trilogy. Absolutely love the series however every time I finish them, I always think how much I'd prefer Katniss to have ended up with Gale. Also I feel like Finnick's death is just glossed over when he was such a key character!

I never set a goal. I was a huge reader when I was young but lost my reading mojo. I joined a book club a couple of years ago to encourage me to read. I read 16 books in 2022. 12 books in 2023 and I’m on my 58th book in 2024. All but 2 of those have been since March so I don’t know what happened then to give me my reading mojo back 😂

So I’ve not read any of CH books and now I never will. The whole film debacle and now this leaves a bit of a bad taste in the mouth. This was shared by a big instagrammer I follow.

i thought she’d learnt her lesson from the colouring book! i’m biased because i hated that book (had covid at the time, covid was preferable) and thought it was just a theme beyond her writing capabilities but she has also managed to prove me right with almost everything she’s done regarding it since.

she obviously just wanted to write a romance with a florist called lily blossom bloom meeting her highschool bf (who was homeless while they were in high school and the school somehow did not notice this) later in life, so i don’t get why she didn’t just do that instead of trying to include a dv plot that she’s never taken seriously (include the film in this). urgh.

My Waterstones double stamps order just arrived and I’m so tempted to put a fake meeting in my calendar and read the first chapter of each book 🫣

Reached my Goodreads goal of 80 books today :mnow going to aim for 100 by the end of the year.

Not that it matters about numbers as numbers shouldn't matter but does anyone else on here set themselves a reading goal? Are you on track if you set yourself a goal?
well done 🥳🥳

i put 60 as my goal every year but have upped to 70 this year as i’m already on 64! i might try and push for 100 too as i haven’t managed triple figures since lockdown 🤣

Guys, I'm so behind on my reading and this thread. Miss you! I only read one book in August! I've been moving house and also THINGS. The book was Liars by Sarah Manguso and it was so so good. Recommend to my fellow struggling female lead, intense relationship dynamics, deep and meaningful book lovers! Really hoping to get back to reading. I picked up a stunning hardback copy of Demon Copperhead in the charity shop. My partner said 'is it about a snake?'. 'Um, no, I think it's about a red-headed little boy'. Made me realise all I know about it is it's brutally sad!

Soooo I’ve just finished ACOTAR

I GET IT ❤❤❤ oh my it was wonderful! 5⭐
I listened and physically read. I think I’d do that for the others too. It made it easier to follow (I don’t think I’m clever enough for fantasy 🤣🤣) and I like to know the correct pronunciation of names etc Hermione was Her-me-own when I read HP 20 years ago 🤣
Anyway I loved it! ❤
