Most books I read and then promptly forget.I must say it's very reassuring to see other people say they finish books and then forget what's happened in them! I do that all the time
People on the reddit book threads are always pontificating about how you're not really reading if you're not "taking it in" etc.
They are
books for me. Good, you enjoy reading it but it doesn't do anything more than be something you enjoy reading at the time. You finish, put it down, move on. Only 4/5 star books are memorable to me.mindlessness

I saw this and it applies to me. I read ACOTAR sceptically at first and enjoyed it. Now I'm reading Fourth Wing and have other romantasy books in my TBR...

I only managed two this month! Read ACOChristmas at the start of the month and it 100% put me off picking up a book for weeks, so I reverted to fan fiction. Managed Reckless in the last few days though.

I tripped and fell into Foyles and bought the new Claire Lombardo 🫣
Another month where I’m glad for the “pages read” stats on StoryGraph! I’m still working my way through Les Miserables (3/5 done!) so books read looks low but pages read is about average.
Around Les Mis I finished -
Strange Sally Diamond by Liz Nugent - enjoyed most of it but was a bit let down by the end
In The Unlikely Event by Judy Blume - an adult novel from Judy Blume that I bought mainly for nostalgia reasons! Not bad, based on true historical events in New Jersey in the 1950s. Lots of overlapping characters that made it a bit busy in places.
Tom Lake by Ann Patchett - loved it!! One of my faves of this year so far, really invested in the character and the lovely family dynamics.
I’m also nearly done with The Satsuma Complex by Bob Mortimer. Hoping to finish it tonight to make it 4 in July!

it really bugs me too. a list of tropes is not a plot. it makes me annoyed to see the genre sorta going that way, given that it’s one of my favourites when done well. but it’s becoming very lazily done.
all i can say about my dark romeo is that i would like to apologise to my parents, my nursery school teachers, my childhood librarian, who all spent time helping me love books, and i have chosen to use those skills reading this. i didn’t just put it in my charity shop bag, i launched it from a great height 🫠

Reading is slow for me at the moment. I feel like I’ve been reading my current books for a long time, even though one of them is The Marriage Act by John Marrs who I love. I’m just not connecting with the characters really so it’s definitely not a “can’t put it down” book for me.
I did help out at our local book festival this weekend though.

Authors I met and spoke to were Kate Rhodes, Victoria Dowd and Jasper Fforde.
I’ve not read any of their books but of course many are now on my TBR 🫣 Kate and Victoria were on the same interview panel and had a really nice relaxed and informal chat that just flowed. They were funny and interesting and seemed like genuinely lovely people. Kate offered to buy us a cuppa after
Jasper seemed really interested in our town and asked for directions to walk along the river afterwards as he’d never been. At his book signing he had a decent queue of people who’d brought many of their books with them for signing and he spent a lot of time chatting with each person.
We also had Michael Rosen here but sadly I didn’t see him. He had 500+ tickets bought for his event which was a record number for the book festival.
Also not this year but in previous years we’ve had Louise Beech (I hadn’t worked it but went to see her) and everyone that mentioned her said how lovely she was, genuinely one of the nicest people
