Hello, I’m new to this thread :) I just treated myself to a new kindle in the Amazon sale as my previous one was about 14 years old and was painfully slow (still amazed it lasted that long though!)
I finished Big Swiss by Jen Beagin last night and I thought it was fantastic. It made me properly laugh but it also had some really dark and disturbing parts too.
Some other books I’ve recently given 5 stars to:
- Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield
- Weyward by Emilia Hart
- I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
- Sunset by Jessie Cave
- Rouge by Mona Awad

Mine is easy to make into a list as I hardly read anything 😂 nothing new tbh. I've actually picked up some new hobbies so not even mad I'm not reading much, at least I didn't replace it with more social media eh 😅

Seven Summers- Paige Toon ⭐⭐⭐
Daughters of Castle Deverill-Santa Montefiore ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Just for the Summers- Abby Jimenez ⭐⭐⭐

My first post here, but I just had to show off my charity shop finds from today after reading the chat a few days ago. All 3 for £1! I’m so excited to see if they’re as good as I thought they were in the 90s 😆

Hello all. So glad to find an active book thread here!

I'm a 99% Kindle reader (too many books in my house to get any more physical ones), and absolutely terrible for buying a regular handful of £0.99 deals to add to my massive TBR list!

I read lots of genres, although I've scaled the crime novels way back compared to what I used to read.

Pleased to see the Seven Sisters series mentioned a few pages back. I've really enjoyed it so far but I've never progressed past the 4th book because the 5th one is £5.99 and I basically refuse to spend more than £2.99 on a Kindle book! 😂

My current read is The Trade by Morgan Greene, which I hope to finish today 🤞

Argh I just spoiled the ending of a book I'm about to read 🙄😭😬

I was flicking through the paperback, it's a sequel, and was sniffing the gorgeous smell of 'new book' when I got to the last bloomin' page and saw the cliffhanger. Oh ffs. And the third book comes out next year so I'm going to have to read this book knowing there is currently an unresolved cliffhanger 😅🤭

👀

That will teach me to sniff books 🤣

Started reading a recommended book - Found in a Bookshop.
After reading this excerpt I think the author understands us book addicts 😁

Ok, this is embarrassing. I have read 3 of those book! I have shame!
No don't have shame! We're not here to impress other people, just to enjoy all kinds of books. :) I have read 11, but wouldn't have read any if it wasn't for this thread.

I thought borrowing books from the library would spur me to read more as there’s a deadline but instead there’s just crippling paralysis staring at the books on my desk 😩

My July reads! A fairly quiet month reading wise and all pretty average with no stand out reads for me. Hoping to get more in this month!

Demon Copperhead is 99p on Kindle so I think that's a sign for me to add it to my TBR :ROFLMAO:
Every time I see this book title it reminds me of The Demon Headmaster which was a TV series when I was a kid. I am curious, I may have to look into this Demon Copperhead book...

Only one book read in July The Flip Side by James Bailey. In a proper reading slump last month and my step dad has been rushed into hospital yesterday so can't even concentrate on reading anything now 🙁

My June reads!

As you may be able to tell I’m going through a bit of a Shalini Boland and Daniel Hurst phase just now and lots of their books are on KU here. I’m currently reading the next book in the Doctor’s series and was trying to finish it last night to get another one in for June but kept falling asleep!

A Mother Never Lies was my least favorite read while the rest were all strong 4 ⭐s for me.

My July reads:-

Fourth Wing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Excuse me but can I please have a gruff sarcastic dragon as my pal who can talk to me telepathically?!

Death Comes to Marlow ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I just enjoy the way Thorogood writes and I see a bit of myself in Judith's character

Clickbait ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I enjoyed this

Everyone Here is Lying ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Probably could be 5 but the age of the missing girl and her behaviour didn't quite work, the girl could have been older.

Broken Light ⭐⭐
lots of repetition, could have been shorter, and I didn't care in the end.

Last Seen Wearing ⭐⭐⭐ A Morse book
Okay, fine if you like Morse, was an audiobook listen whilst multitasking

Death of a Ghost ⭐⭐⭐
Again a light hearted audiobook to keep me occupied

Good month for me this month, 13 books read, my favourites and 5/4.5 stars were:

The Night We Met - Zoe Folbigg
Another Mother - Susan Spindler
(Both these made me cry!)
The Marriage Portrait - Maggie O'Farrell
The Rose Code - Kate Quinn

Least favourite was The Curious Heart of Ailsa Rae and One More Lie.

All the others enjoyable and in between
