One of my workmates bullied me in to taking home her copy of ACOTAR last week and keeps asking if I’ve started it yet. I’m really not a fantasy/romance type of girl but going to give it a go due to the rave reviews here!

do it aidil (and then come and talk to me about it ) - i’m not a fantasy person either and the lead character is annoying af but they’re so much fun.

I started this last year but never completed it! going to try again. I like the idea of the least favourite too

I agree re book costs. I watch a few American booktubers and they’re happy if they get a book for $15! I think the price question is always going to be double ended. it probably does devalue the books and I’m not sure how it affects the authors but I’d assume negatively at such a low cost? but I do think we are very lucky to get the prices we get and it makes reading much more accessible and branching out more possible too. I wouldn’t try new books for £15/20 a pop, but on a 99p kindle deal I’m willing to try something a bit different. then again I definitely expect them cheap now and also that’s how you end up with 200+ unread kindle books in a year and a half

Henry Cavill is every single book boyfriend, male character in every book I read they could be 4ft tall and blonde and it’ll still be Cavill in my head

he’s actually the closest look to rhys i could picture!

my book boyfriend casting is a detailed and intricate process for every book (as is all my book casting) but henry is an amazing constant choice - i approve

edit: actually i want to know everyone’s acotar casting now i could never settle on a rhys and bizarrely graziano from strictly always came into my head for cassian. always felt domhnall gleason would be a good lucien too (not many redheads to pick though!)

I have just finished Poor Things and I loved the ending. I really enjoyed it. Not sure if I will watch the film.

Have to decide what to read next now. Currently on the TBR pile is:
- Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason
- The Salt Path by Raynor Winn
- Weyward by Emilia Hart

I know some of you didn’t enjoy The Salt Path but it’s been on my TBR pile since it came out. I travel a lot but the south west coast/ SW England in general is my very favourite corner of the world out of everywhere I have ever been. I also LOVE an unreliable memoir type book.

Anyone else who liked it, I'd also recommend I'm Sorry You Feel That Way.

I've seen the film of Poor Things and thought it was brilliant. I have since bought the book, though not the usual way round to do it! It's just such a great story.

That said I really enjoy her pseudonym books the Strike series. She is a magnificent storyteller.

I'm just starting the third book. I never really read fantasy before don't even really like fantasy tv shows like GOT. I also don't read that much romance except maybe when I was on a beach or pool holiday and wanted something light. Yet I am hooked!

Weirdly, I felt like I hadn't had a good reading month until I did this. I didn't enjoy Katherine as much as I'd hoped, but at least it was one off my 24 for 24, and I had a great time with some of the others.

How was Devil's Cub? I haven't read that one but I do like Heyer's books generally.

Robert Thorogood - The Marlow Murder Club
- I really enjoyed this, looking forward to reading the next book soon.

Sophie Hannah - Hercule Poirot's Silent Night
- I am finishing this one today for completeness but honestly I won't bother with any more of the Poirots not written by Agatha Christie. It was just ...boring. This was a shopping trolley impulse purchase of a hardback at full price... woops. Will be more careful next time.

Sarah J Maas - A Court of Thorns and Roses
- Surprisingly enjoyed this first foray into fantasy genre, will try the next book and then decide whether to read them all - there are a lot of books, ahaha. The world building is good. Not given it 5 stars yet but we'll see how I get on with book # 2.

Agatha Christie - The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side
- Not my favourite Marple, it was an audiobook narrated by Joan Hickson, but after a while I was like come on let's finish, so I put it on 1.25x speed. Plot was predictable.

Agatha Christie - And Then There Were None
- This was much better, a good intriguing plot with 10 victims, I've said it before but I think Christies' best books are the ones without Marple or Poirot ahahah. I am still determined to get through all 70+ stories by combination of audio, ebook and book over the next few years though because on the whole I enjoy them.

Rob Rinder - The Trial
- I really enjoyed this, and look forward to the next one that comes about this year. I enjoyed the legal aspects of it.


The book of the month is tie between Marlow Murder Club and The Trial.

The Teacher ended really well but the subject matter just gave me the ick and the final twist I’d worked out from the very beginning. I’m glad I stuck with it though

Halfway through Green Dot. It's so good. I love the writing. I love that it's set in Sydney, even though I'm not Australian I can see why others found the main character infuriating. I'm not annoyed by her though as she reminds me of some people I know and don't hate.

I’ve done the HP house test fairly recently and it said I was a Gryffindor. When I took it years ago it said Slytherin. But I feel like I would be a Hufflepuff really.
Love all the HP chat, I was the right age for the books and grew up reading them. My grandparents used to buy me the books and I remember being totally absorbed in them and loving the stories. I listen to the Stephen Fry audiobooks every year, they’re definitely a comfort listen

Still loving the new C L Taylor book and it’s getting me out of my slump so far. I’m halfway through already. TW for stalking and DV if anyone is thinking of picking it up.

Just want to say thank you to @StephenTJackson for recommending The Will of the Many a few threads back. It popped up on my Borrow Box last week and I couldn't remember why I'd added it (apart from the fact that it was a Tattle recommendation) as it didn't sound my cup of tea at all. But, wow, what a book! It's one that will stay with my for a while - I've not read a book recently where I've missed it once I've finished. What a cliffhanger at the end though, can't wait to see what happens in the next installment.

I started Tom Lake yesterday which I am also liking.

Currently reading Book Lovers by Emily Henry and I don’t know if I’m just in a bad mood but urgh it feels so twee I’m surprised because I loved her other books
Plodding on with it to see if it gets better

We have a saying in Spanish that every head is a world, so I know, I know it's okay for others not to like the things I love but I adore Book Lovers so much I hope it gets better for you. It's not just my favorite EmHen but it's my favorite contemporary romance, so it's very sad to hear it's not doing it for you! I feel like chastising the book. Do better, Book Lovers!

@Caffeine Fiend I will try not to cry about you not remembering Charlie Lastra or thinking he and Nora are wankery fuckwits. It's fine. I'm fine (kidding. mostly).

I finished The Great Alone. I think I have a new all time favourite book I read it on Kindle but think I need to look for a copy for my bookshelf to keep forever. Hardbacks are going for nearly £100 though!!!

Matthew tell me I’m not the only one who blubbed the entire way through the chapter where they reunite and he meets his son for the first time so much heartbreak in one book, I can’t cope. My only complaint is I would have liked more chapters of them rebuilding their new lives together rather than the brief mention in her final words. But that’s just a reflection of how much I loved the book and didn’t want it to end!

Just finished Green Dot by Madeline Gray and wow I’ve never been so infuriated by a main character I almost stopped reading because of the delusion but the prose and writing was just too good
