Ahhh I want to but just can't justify the money at least until pay day might just wait for my library to finally catch up to the hype and buy them! Some of the posts on here have made me think they won't be as great as I was thinking, some posts I'd seen made me think they were 5* level, still want to read them though

Your library should have a way to request a book (or books)! At least, those that I've been a member of over the years have. Doesn't guarantee they'll buy it but you may as well try?

I'm so cross with myself as yet another recommended book I ordered from the library - well when I picked it up I realised it wasn't a fiction book, instead looked psychological and it had a boring cover, so I thought I'd read it last.
Picked it up today to read and it's good, so went to check my library account tonight and it has to be returned on Tuesday.
So I thought I'll just renew it, but no it's on hold for more than one person.!!!
If it was one of you who recommended it I'm sorry for being so ungrateful and ill try to do better next time.

One Of The Good Guys is a 99p kindle deal today. Its been on my wish list since it got released and I almost bought the hardback!

Sounds interesting. I’ve bought that and Blood Flowers by Jay McGuinness. Been ages since I’ve bought a daily deal, let alone two!

I wish there was a way you could postpone a borrow from Borrow Box when it comes up, rather than it being borrowed automatically. I've just started a longish book but ACOMAF has just been delivered to my device (which I've been desperate for, but not for a little while). Libby was so good for being able to allow the next in line to have it while you remain at the top of the queue, I miss that feature!

I’m using borrowbox for an audiobook and it’s really annoying me.
It doesn’t work with apple carplay so is unusable in the car unless you just let it run. It looks like Libby is compatible though (but our library only uses Libby for magazines).


Also for some reason when I go back to pick up where I left off, is taking me back to the start of the chapter I was in rather than where I paused it. I’ve checked settings to see if it’s a preference but doesn’t seem to be an option, so must be a bug.

On top of that you also can’t use borrowbox with kindle whereas you can with Libby. I might write to my council but I’m guessing borrowbox will be the preference if it is cheaper!

For those who have read The Trial (Rob Rinder) and without giving spoilers, did you guess the outcome? I thought the clues were quite obvious I really loved it, it was a 5 star read for me, which is rare when I guess the outcome as I usually find that a bit disappointing as I like a good shock

I didn't guess the culprits but I really enjoyed it and just stayed up to finish it

Can anyone help me with the name of a book I read in 2020 sure it was fairly new at the time. It’s about a teacher having an affair with his pupil set in the 70s then it switches to modern day and the pupil is held hostage by the teachers sister as she blames her for her brother killing himself in prison. Can’t remember anyone’s name it’s a romance book can’t for the life of me find it tried googling everything

Is this one where they move into an old house at the beginning? I think i may have read it in the last year or so

I have this and its sequel in hardback. Purely because the covers were so lovely.



We can be besties and sit on the Happy Place > Book Lovers bench. I have Funny Story on pre order. I am hopeful it is more HP and less BL. Ive also ordered a deluxe version of Beach Read which I wont actually get until Sept/December.

Also I had the exact same thoughts about Magnolia Parks. I snagged an OG cover whilst out for Mother's Day dinner which meant I then splurged on the original copies of the next 4 as I was concerned Id not be able to get them. Youre right theyre not cheap. Ive finished the first book and I don't really know how to feel. It felt like if Gossip Girl was set in London. However Magnolia is no Blair Waldorf. All the characters are super toxic. Also Magnolias 'thing' is she likes to name the brand, style and colour of every single characters outfit in every scene and honestly it got boring for me v quickly. The OG covers are US size and I presume imports which is why they cost the whole £12.99 RRP and not the standard £7.99-£9.99 for a UK print. I may be wrong there. I ended up buying from Waterstones as they were pretty much similarly priced across all websites with v little discount.

Ive got Daisy Haites the 2nd in the series to read now but have got library books to read first.

OMG yes! I don’t know why she couldn’t just name the clothes in the odd scene as a reminder that was ‘her thing’. I noticed a couple of Americanism that annoyed me more than they should have done lol
Think I gave it 3.75 overall.

Jumping on here, thinking I may have misread but is there a version of ACOTAR which Elizabeth Evans narrates? I absolutely loved her narrating in TOG but haven't got round to ACOTAR with it being a different narrator from what I can see?

I have the first book, but after doing TOG through audiobook I would prefer to carey this on.

TOG and CC are Elizabeth Evans.

ACOTAR I think mine are all different narrators? I don't have the dramatised versions just the normal but a quick scroll looks like they differ book to book.

I know further back in the thread that some have read the ‘Atlas’ series, Im reading the Atlas Complex at the moment but Im struggling with it. It seems super wordy for the sake of it and not really going anywhere. Did anyone find it the same? Id like the get to end but finding it hard going.

Ugh, jealous!! None of the books in my gigantic Kindle book wish list have any significant discount this month in the US store. I always get excited for the first of the month to see what new deals they come up with but it's a disappointment today.

Yes I think they do. It was the first book I read as an adult and started my love for reading again wish I could remember the name

after a 5 star read i’m fighting for my life reading this could be everything by eva rice. i remember really liking the loss art of keeping secrets but god i’m finding this dull. and she really really wants you to know that it’s set in the 90s too.

also really not into how the lead character’s grief induced agoraphobia is resolved about 80 pages in by an encounter with a cute boy

Thank you. This makes sense. I just misunderstood. I loved Elizabeth Evans and got a little excited thinking she may have done a ACOTAR version.

Has anybody got any recommendations of which to go for out of the normal or dramatised versions?

I love Elizabeth Evans. She was one of the narrators on the book I just finished which is a totally different genre to ACOTAR and her voice acting/narrating is brilliant.

Has anyone read Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll? I have so many opinions.

Overall I think she did a sensitive job of not glorifying the serial killer it was based on, and not falling into the oh he was so smart and genius and brilliant that so many narratives seem to be. But I'm not sure about the fiction/non fiction overlap that these books fall into. I know she spoke to one of the survivors Kathy Kleiner so I imagine had her blessing, and surely got some facts to base the characters and story on but so much of it still must have been made up still. I've seen some reviews that say a lot of the plot isn't actually based on things that happened (I'm going to research what this is when I have time as I'm intrigued!), so I feel she may have just been better off making the whole story completely fictional and not about a real killer/crime/victims.

I think all of this is more of a personal preference response rather than it being a bad book. And I do think she handled it a lot more sensitively and delicately than a lot of true crime content does.

I also saw a review that said Kathy Kleiner who Knoll spoke to released a nonfiction book about her experience at the same time and has a few hundred reviews compared to Knolls tens of thousands of reviews. I think had I realised I may have read hers instead as it feels a bit icky that hers has mostly been ignored for a fictional version. I realise I'm part of that too so don't mean to be hypocritical! I didn't even realise the book was based on a real killer until I started it so my own fault really.

I finished reading this a couple of days ago and have similar mixed feelings. I think the book was well written and the ending made me cry. I do however question how ethical it was. I know the real case well and she chose the 2 occasions where he committed double murders to focus on. Whilst she clearly added fictional character details it was very clear which real life victim each character was based on however loosely. I do think that focussing on the victims story and Bundy not being a focus was great but I can’t help feel that her profiting from writing this, at the same time one of the real life survivors is releasing her book, is not very ethical. I too would have preferred to hear Kathy Kleiners account.
