This is what I don’t like about influencers in general.I generally really like Lauren Dubois, and this likely is just a ‘me’ problem.. I love that she has found clarity in receiving her ADHD diagnosis. But it irks me a bit, and I think it’s because I, too, am ADHD but have had a completely different life experience where i have never been able to achieve/commit to anything, so impulsive my life has been so chaotic, struggle to organise anything (even my kids appointments etc and I carry heavy guilt everyday), half finished projects etc. but Lauren has had a very successful career/s, and her life seems so ‘put together’ and organised, down to every detail it seems so thought-out. Even all her projects are so perfectly curated from start to finish. Again, I totally respect Lauren but I guess I just feel a bit crap because ADHD always explained (for me) why I struggled with all this stuff. Anyway there’s my vent for the day haha!
She’s incredibly privileged. She’s not showing a lot of stuff that’s probably more realistic (but not as aesthetic for Insta). Even the “reality” or “struggles” that people like Lauren share are curated and edited to come across a certain way. Yes it’s up to each person how much they share about things like mental health, disability, physical health etc but I think you need to be very careful when you have a large public platform.
I’m really sorry that she has made you feel that way, it sucks to feel like you’re doing something wrong or failing because other people are seemingly going through the same thing as you but are more successful or better at everything - at least from what they show.
Lauren no doubt has access to things that a lot of us don’t, like the ability to afford to see a doctor, a psychologist, a psychiatrist, pay for medication, pay for self care and recreation or other things that could help, pay for other kinds of therapy like occupational therapy. Are her kids in daycare? Does she have a support network around her? She doesn’t have a full time job. There are so many things that contribute to a person’s ability to manage and cope.
anyway sorry for my ramble, please try not to let her seemingly put together life make you feel less than. *hugs*
