What are you thinking about the new series of Nour Alghandour? I find it horrendous how they stereotype against Syrian and Egyptian women. All khaleeji series are very low level quality, badly done, badly scripted. Horrible.
What taboo topics?
So taboo for Gulf society even I (a Brit) gasped 😂 One of the wives suspects her husband to be gay and tries to find out if it’s the case. I’m surprised by the storyline! All the characters have crazy abnormal drama and I think there’s general grumblings from those insisting it doesn’t represent Kuwaiti society.

As for Nour al Ghandour, she’s great. Agree about the weird Egyptian and Syrian stereotypes being pushed. The Syrian wife one especially made me sad. But like someone else mentioned above, Nour really takes her stereotypical role (Masri belly dancer) into her stride and owns it.

Overall though, it’s a typically cheap, silly production. Easy entertainment.

As if Egyptian and Syrian shows don’t stereotype Khaleeji women, please. I recently saw a clip from an Egyptian tv show that showed a Khaleeji woman paying an Egyptian man for the “night”, straight up insinuating that Khaleeji women buy male escorts! Throughout the years all their tv shows have depicted us as vapid, ugly, stupid, in black niqabs or hijabs that hit the ceiling, always in nightclubs, flashy with money, etc. No one said anything about that lol.

By local guys , do you mean emarati men or just guys who live there ?
emirati men! they all follow my friend and would recognize her everywhere we’d go. they’d call out to her by her name and beg for them to add her on snap. to be honest they would objectify her a lot i was honestly so disgusted. even with me. i cannot tell you the amount of times i was chased. i understand not all locals are like this, i have local guy friends who are normal. but the ones i met while out acted like they’ve never seen a girl before in their life.

@societyofanon pls share ab how they are? are they really as happy as they seem or are they lowkey batshit crazy😂😂im convinced the life goals of some women from there is to play dressup, eat and gossip all day
they are SO unhappy! literally all they care about is social media. my friend her head was in her phone 99% of the time, talking to her followers or taking thousands of pics and videos. wherever we went, whatever we did, she had to post it and also act like she was having way more fun than she really was. they were never in the moment, it’s like all they cared about was making their life look amazing for social media. also the girls i met were crazy, for example they’d yell at me and talk sh** when i first started driving there cause i missed 1 exit, and if you know about dubai if you miss an exit there it adds like 10 minutes. it was ironic because they didn’t even know how to drive themselves.

Are the influencer girls you were talking about locals or foreigners? A lot of emirati women I have met and know are very sweet and nice but they’re not influencers. That’s sad that they don’t know how to live in the moment. When they look back when they’re older, I wonder if they’ll feel bad that all they did was do everything for social media.

hi everyone! i’m just now seeing this, didn’t realize there was a new thread made I was like one of the last posts!

if you didn’t see my first post, i spent basically all of march in dubai. i’ve never been there before, towards the end i felt like i was living there. i stayed with my friend who i have met prior in the US. she recently went back to dubai which is where she has been living and basically working as a snapchat influencer. she has about 1.3m followers. everytime she’d post she would get on average 400-500k views. she is not one of the very glamorous local influencers this thread talks about, but she is well known in the community..especially with the locals. everytime i’d go out with her guys would chase us because they’d recognize her. and also these local guys are on another level of thirsty, i cant tell you the amount of times i was harassed by them while driving and forced to take their snapchats via airdrop. if we’d be standing outside, especially in jumeirah, there was not one car with guys that didn’t catcall.
the “influencers” i have met there are all basically gold diggers, and the way they portray their lives on social media is nothing like what it truly is. even the filters they used were so extreme….they looked nothing like their pics. oh and they wear SO much makeup. Insane amounts. I love wearing makeup, but these girls would be doing full glam every single day.I got to rent some very nice luxury cars while i was there, thanks to her we got a generous discount from the owner…these girls would literally record the steering wheel while i was driving as if they were driving, in reality they didn’t even have a license. just an example of how fake they really are. i found out a lot of tea, like how some of them are secretly doing onlyfans and some in reality have no money like they act like they do online. I’ve become so turned off by the idea of these people. before I went to dubai I had a WAY different perspective than I do now. I romanticized their lifestyle in a way. what I can say now is that nothing is free there and everyone is fake to eachother. they all just use each other to go out and post. let me not forget to mention how this girl was the worst host ever. she would sleep in all day, only went out with me a few times. she’d tell me i complain too much because i would ask her to go to expo with me(which i didn’t even get to end up going to) she didn’t want to do any of the “tourist” stuff with me. although i still had fun i wish i had a different experience. I have so much to share, this experience in dubai was just eye opening for me. please feel free to ask me questions :) !!
Do a lot of them wear a lot of fakes or were they gifts from boyfriends or partners?

But why stereotype at all though? I get so confused about the whole Levantine and North Africa vs khaleej thingy. We are all Arab at the end of the day. Stereotyping each other is stupid and I don’t understand why they do it. It’s not entertaining at all. I’ll be honest as an Arab who’s born and lived in the west my whole life it’s hard to understand these issues so maybe I’m missing something.

Did anyone watch the show qalb Al Adala? It’s on Netflix

Obvs locals

Is it assalah kamel?

Seeing as we are playing guess who @societyofanon

Is she

- Emirati or Arab
- under 25
- worked with lots of brands
- more popular on snap or Instagram?

Also I’m sorry to hear about your experience, coming all the way from America I am sure that was a let down for you. You would genuinely be surprised with the amount of Arab influencers who are so self-conscious and fabricate their entire lifestyle. Some genuinely do come from wealth, but the majority of them just lie. One Alain based influencer I was following was exposed not long ago for using other women’s pictures. The lengths they go to, to convince people they are about that life is hilarious. I totally believe the snapping the wheel 😭🤣 I hope this experience doesn’t put you off from travelling other Arab countries. When you visit places that essentially have zero culture and history, constructed solely for being the Vegas of the Middle East, there’s not much that one who is well-traveled will appreciate about hoebai. Blasé settings, blasé people.

all these girls were arab, some khaleeji, one of her friends was moroccan who was a khaleeji wannabe. my friend who is an influencer is also a khaleeji wannabe, she tells everyone she is saudi when in reality she is half i believe north african arab? yemeni? i don’t remember and her other half is african american…who knows tbh, she lies a lot and she always changed her story. her friends were one of those girls with the designer bags and hermes sandals in every color..yet something was weird. they had rich arab boyfriends and the materialistic things they had seemed like gifts, i wouldn’t be surprised if they had some fake too. when i’d go out with them we’d split everything, i’d always be the only person who would offer to pay for everyone, you know, the middle eastern way. but they never did.
she’s friends with sisters…so you can get an idea.

she is arab, originally born in the US but has a very good emirati/saudi accent. she tells everyone she is saudi. she’s under 25. very famous on snapchat. she does ads..sometimes. not as much as other influencers. tbh she is super lazy lol.
i definitely am planning to go back and NOT stay with her and really do my own thing, visit Kuwait and Qatar. i’ve been wanting to see Al Ula in Saudi. I don’t even care for the nightlife in Dubai. my favorite part was honestly the restaurants and beaches. I drove alone a lot in Dubai and explored, since she would sleep all day lol. my favorite moments were when i was alone and not around these people..it was honestly so draining. they were really controlling, didn’t want to do what i wanted to do since they’ve been living there and have seen everything already.

Please don’t say UAE has no culture and history that’s extremely insulting to the country and it’s people. It’s essentially the expats that have ruined Dubai. Has absolutely nothing to do with its culture or history! Dubai has many facades, if you go after that Vegas life that’s what you will get

If you've read the threads before then you should know about how common it is for many influencers to pretend to be khaleeji and are living a fake and superficial life. Truly revolting. I doubt many of these influencers are carrying real designer items because some of the brands they carry are unattainable and not only that but apparently the UAE is known for top grade replicas. No offence but it's really hard to believe every Fatima, Maitha and Sheikha are all carrying real exotic birkins.

Honey, your friend is suppose to be the hostess the least she could do is offer to pay for the food but once again i'm not surprised that these women don't have an ounce of decent manners. In the infamous words of Faye Resnick 'No matter how many Chanel bags you borrow, You'll never be a lady' It's appalling that they don't know how to conduct themselves in a proper manner.

These people are just pathetic and sad honestly. Hopefully you'll find better friends.

It’s true. The man did ruin their own city & regardless of how “cultural” Emirate ( culture always changes & I consider the current aesthetic of Dubai to be the emarati culture) is if one looks past the social media, it will always be known as the Las Vegas of Middle East & it’s no one’s fault but the emirate people themselves. Literally every person I know who has visited dubai has done so for the partying/wealth scene of Dubai & not for its “cultural” aspect.

Even if you said Dubai and not the UAE, it would still be simply not true that it has “essentially zero culture or history”. Historically, Dubai was known for being a fishing village and their pearl diving history and culture was documented by European merchants since the 10th century! Say what you want about the monarchy not preserving their history and destroying it for the sake of a “fake” city, but it’s unfair to say that Dubai has no culture and history. It does, places like albastikya, alfahidi, and preserved fortresses show that. But most tourists don’t come to Dubai for that tit, so the government invests money in bullshit.

yes i remember reading about how these influencers really are, i didn’t believe it fully till i actually saw it for myself!! from the outside it’s crazy how they look SO perfect and glamorous, but behind closed doors it’s nothing like that. also her friends that I did meet were nobody influencers, I mean they had less than 100k i believe. I truly believe they are only friends with her for clout and to get as “famous” as her.
she was honestly a horrible hostess and friend to me. the trip in dubai showed her true colors. when she was here in the US, I did a lot for her. I went out with her everyday, did whatever she wanted. In Dubai honestly she and her friends just bullied me. they are mean girls. since I came back i have not spoken to her because she asked me to pay her back?? what is this?? i wasn’t raised this way. i never ask my friends to pay me back for anything! in the end i found out how cheap she really is and isn’t this “rich khaleeji” girl she portrays online. I think the most famous person I met other than her was the richest teenager in Dubais brother, whom she secretly dated. she kept pushing me to hook up with his friend because he has “a lot of money”. I literally could not. I lost so much respect.

That’s what I thought to be honest! I couldn’t think of anyone else other than joory or whatever her name is
noooo not Joory😂😂😂her moroccan friend is way less famous than her

You are right I personally have been to the old ports and souks. There were literally zero tourists mostly arab/Indian expats there. Other emirates do have rich culture, Dubai is just lacking in that department. The government honestly had such a good opportunity to showcase that but they insisted on making Dubai a hub for degenerates.
