Hi all

Serious Anxiety sufferer here, I’ve just started dating a guy for the first time in 10 years, in that time I’ve been very unlucky and mistreated

I’ve now started getting feelings for this guy after 5 weeks of dating but my anxiety is raging, I’m overthinking everything and terrified he is changing his mind or will lose interest or even has lost interest. Advice or insights appreciated, has anyone else experienced something similar?

It’s mad isn’t it, it doesn’t make sense but that must mean something I guess 🤔 I am the exact same I will literally do a 180 sometimes if I see someone I know especially if I don’t really like them! The only way I have got better is to do the things that make me anxious. For example for nearly two years now I’ve been going to a lash tech to get my lashes done so thats once every 2/3 weeks so I have got used to going now and it doesn’t make me anxious anymore as it’s more of a routine. I also try and push myself to go to the nearest shop by myself, just get a couple of things, not too much otherwise it can be overwhelming and come back. Or I get my boyfriend to come with me but he stays outside and I go in. Just try different little ways of beating it. ❤
thank you 💕 it’s such a horrible thing and it’s kind of embarassing to talk about because I’m afriad people will think im an odd ball. I’m a lot better than I was a year or two ago I went through a period of months where I wasn’t able to look people in the eye not even my own family. I couldn’t even walk down the street without getting panicked that everyone was staring at me. So silly when you think about it. I’m apprehensive because I don’t know if anti anxiety meds will help with the social anxiety but the doctor will hopefully let me know

Oh my god yes 100%. I suffered with loose bowels all through my childhood and teens and I know looking back now it was 100% nerves and all in my head. I also get aches and pains in the muscles and shortness of breath. I also get bladder pain. It’s crazy how powerful your mind can be
SAME! I hate that you've gone through that but it does make me feel a bit better that it's not just me. Did you do anything to ease the physical pains?

I get the dodgy tummy too. Anxiety really bad at the moment as daughter is getting bullied at school and the mum is unbelievable 🙄Also triggering for me as I was bullied at the same age :(
So sorry to hear that, seems like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree there. I hope you and your daughter are rid of them soon ❤

New to this thread but thought is was a perfect moment to jump on seeing as my anxiety prompts insomnia hence me being on at this time. Everytime I drift off to sleep I wake up all panicky with a racing heart, gave up lying in bed tonight as I'm up and down that much I don't want to wake my son 🤦🏼‍♀️. I've noticed my anxiety is much worse when I'm run down but it's got to point now I'm seriously considering a doctors visit, so I was just wondering does medication help?
Ah it’s awful, you can’t sleep for the anxiety and lie awake, making you exhausted which just increases your anxiety. I have anxiety, it’s bad atm as I’m pregnant which seems to have made it 1000 times worse and I’ve never been on meds for it so I really don’t want to start now as it will make me worse (you can take some in pregnancy). My partner and few of my friends are on medications though which have helped. You could also look at referring yourself for counselling, waiting lists are quite high so refer you’re self when you can. Really hope you get some support xxx

Fellow anxiety sufferer here! Had it since I was a young child. I've only tried fluoxetine for anxiety (have tried more than one anti depressant though). It didn't work at all for me. I've also been given propanol and then diazepam later on. Never tried the diazepam but the propanol did nothing.

I would say take it easy on yourself as you're living through a really anxiety inducing time. I don't know how your anxiety looks to you. So for me I struggle to leave the house for no reason, so I just try to do small things. Just a quick walk around the block, then pushing it further. I try to go out at least everyday cause I find that even one day in the house all day makes me anxious to leave the next day. Also happy music and exercise really helps me

Anxiety is always worse at night because the darkness means your eyes have less to focus on and therefore your brain has more space to be anxious. So it's completely natural. For non-medicated remedies I highly recommend:
  1. a diffuser with lavender (I find the sound of it bubbling away relaxing too)
  2. pop some essential oils on your collarbone and deeply inhale
  3. A meditation specifically for sleep is amazing, I recommend Generation Calm on YouTube.
  4. I know you've probably heard it 23985098 times before but get rid of screens 45m-1hr before bed, it truly messes you up. If you wake up early in the morning do not be tempted to go on your phone!

Meds differ per person, I always say give it a go and make sure you give it 2-3 weeks to kick in and it can help take the edge off :)
Thankyou! Definitely going to give all your recommendations a try! I'm very bad for the screen time one, if I wake in the night i instantly pick my phone up and put a video on to try and fall back to sleep 🤦🏼‍♀️

I get this all the time after a night out. Even when I’ve had a good night and haven’t made a fool of myself I still wake up with dread. I think it’s quite common. Hope you’re ok x

Hi all, hope I’m ok to join in. Recently been prescribed sertraline for anxiety and pnd. I’ve been having loads of problems feeding the baby and she isn’t gaining weight very well. I worry sick that I’m a bad mum and failing her as we gave up breast feeding due to the issues. I also have such a horrible anxiety about her breathing and atopppng breathing in her sleep I lie awake for so long and I’m exhausted. In the evenings im looking at the tv but not watching it, im in a constant fog. I’ve always been a “natural born worrier” but never seeked help for it. Previously I’ve been obsessed with my heart, people don’t like me etc 🙄
Now I’m a mum I am actually reaching out for help but when we have bad days with the baby it just sets me back so much and I can’t control my emotions. I just want to feel better so I can be a good mum.
Oh sweetheart that sounds really hard. Can I ask how long you've been on sertraline? I know that it does take up to a few weeks for the anxiety edge to disappear so it could be that it's not quite working yet? I'm not a mum so probably can't help much on that front.
Type in meditation for mothers on YouTube and give yourself 20 mins out of your day to listen and relax <3

Oh that’s interesting, thank you! I did wonder if the booster was messing with my MH a bit — and yeah, rest is key. I know it’s silly but I try and focus on things like basic self-care each day as a bit of a distraction from all the other stuff I have to do.

Hi all, I'm not a big poster here but I'm struggling tonight 😩 not even sure what I want to ask or if I want advice so I guess it is more of a vent.

So basically, I've suffered with anxiety for my whole life as long as I can remember. But due to it being belittled and brushed off from childhood by my father and my ex partner (I lived with my father til age 16 then my ex from 16-27), I honestly never really recognised my feelings as anxiety until around 5 years ago (I'm 32 now). My whole life, all I've been told is "just don't worry, you're fine, don't be silly, don't be daft, you're being ridiculous". About EVERYTHING. And my father always made me feel like everything I do has to be PERFECT and asking for help is a weakness. For example, as a kid, I couldn't ask him to help with spelling, he'd tell me that I know where the dictionary is. So I've always been scared to ask for help, or felt like I shouldn't ask for help because I should be able to do everything myself.

On top of all this, I also had a miscarriage last month which really shook me, plus a scan found other health issues in that area which will require surgery. My mind is going crazy every single day after this past month, as well as general Covid life affecting everything for the past year.

I've been off sick from work for 3 weeks and am due to go back tomorrow and I'm shitting myself. My work think very highly of me, not trying to toot my horn, but I know my manager likes me and thinks I'm a good worker (I'm an admin in a university clinical trials unit).

But I know that in the past couple of months, my performance has slipped a bit and I'm so scared I may have forgotten to do things or left a job too long by putting it off, and scared I'll get some sort of disciplinary tomorrow or something. I'm not sure anxiety is a reason to explain poor performance and slipping up.. it seems like a daft excuse and not good enough.

Hi everyone I hope you're all doing well as we're going into the festive season.

I get quite physical bad stomach/IBS symptoms with my anxiety, can anyone recommend tips to calm it down? Herbal teas, hot water bottle, things like that.

Thanks!
Mint tea is good to settle your stomach.

Sorry, I put that badly! I didn't intend to start a new thread, just looking to give & receive a bit of support over Christmas on a quiet thread.
There's these threads if they're of any help?

Thanks, will check them out!

Ugh, yes! I feel like lots of people have a particular symptom which their body gravitates to under stress, and mine is definitely stomach/nausea type stuff. It's so unsettling, isn't it? I feel like the build-up goes on for so long that I'm exhausted before it starts. We are going to stay with relatives and that's very stressful.
Without knowing your situation things often seem worse in our heads! I hope it’s okay for you!

I am sure there are great HVs out there, but most of my friends have really, really suffered with them, esp with first births. You sound like you're doing really well, all things considered. I haven't got a baby (I wish I had!) but I'm sure I'd be completely the same. Everyone seems to have a "I poked my kid when she was a baby to check she's okay" story about their really healthy six-year-old.

Also you're TOTALLY fine to join in! This is a space for being kind to each other and venting!
Thank you! How are you feeling? X

My anxiety went through the roof when I became a parent. I worried a lot and panicked when I was on my own with them but I got through it and you will too. Try to sleep when baby sleeps as honestly being tired makes anxiety a thousand times worse.

Don’t stress too much over the weight gain as I was told the centiles are based on bottle fed babies so breastfed babies always show lower on the centile. I breastfed two of mine and the third was breast and bottle. The third one definitely weighed the most due to the bottle feeds and was always spot on in the centile charts (before anyone jumps on me, I’m not saying bottle fed babies are fat!).

Hopefully in another few weeks your medication will kick in and you’ll start to feel less anxious.
Thank you. Hope you’re ok x

I have suffered with bad anxiety since I was a child, but have always been apprehensive about medication. I have taken CB therapy before and learned some coping mechanisms that I found helpful. But since the last lockdown has started it’s gotten really bad. I wake up anxious straight away in the morning and it lasts all day. I’m considering going to the doctors and asking for medication but just want to know what people’s experiences have been on them?😬
Do seek medical advice. There are some great medications available. It's a cliche, but chamomile tea really is good for it too. Don't be hard on yourself about it. Try and find a calm place in your house, where you feel safest. Some people prefer dark rooms and some prefer rooms with curtains open that don't make them feel claustrophobic. Reading is good for anxiety, even reading this forum. If it makes you laugh, it releases endorphins which are a natural feel good.
