Annoying things your work colleagues do all the time? #9

The person on my team who described themselves as being “riddled” with ADHD will do this annoying thing where she will pick up her personal phone and read a message and laugh out loud and make a comment out load. This is obviously so someone will ask what she’s laughing at (we don’t) Cannot be arsed with attention seekers. Maybe it’s the 14 year age gap. I just ignore them.

The wanker my husband works for. Husband has a trapped nerve in his back and it’s highly likely he will end up needing surgery and 4-6 weeks recovery time. Wanker boss only pays two weeks sick pay so if he decides to enforce that for post-operative recovery then we’re going to be in difficulties. I don’t have high hopes as he’s made someone with a broken leg commute into the office before now.

My new reporting manager is actually an old manager, I know what he's like, a narcissistic vague-booker extraordinare. Says all the right things that sound positive but remains determinedly non-commital so he can change his mind at the drop of a hat and expects everyone around him to pick up the pieces. And considering his job title vs mine, of course I will. I've decided to start looking for a new job if this carries on but I'm exhausted by the notion of changing jobs and starting over to build my internal network and establish my reputation. I don't want to leave, but I'm not sure I have the stamina to stick it out with this dude, and the longer I dither the less energy I have.

Currently sitting on my break and managed to time in with this woman who is always on her phone. Her other half roars down the phone so I can hear both sides of the conversation. It's absolute drivel, about bleeping sweetcorn. Every break she is on her phone to him. It winds me up no end to the point I go back to my desk early. Maybe it's because I'm old, but I would always take phone calls away from other people.

We are back in the office and the biscuits got opened yesterday 🤣
I’m also about to lose my tit because lazy co worker didn’t log until 9.30 yesterday when it’s meant to be 8. Mentioned it to the TL this morning and she said she knew and other person on my team who has issues with the lazy one had told her. She asked the TL what she was going to do about it and she said she wasn’t going to say anything to him. But if me and or anyone else is more than a couple of minutes late, we get teams messages and phone calls asking where we are. I wish I had something this morning, but it wasn’t until my other co worker just said now that it’s one rule for us and another for him. 🤯
Quoting myself as I was asked when I was going to make my time up as I need to log off 45 mins early to go to an appointment, yet no one will address lazy and him logging on 90 minutes late. Nothing like selective enforcement to make you more determined to leave.

One rule for one pisses me off no end, used to have that at my job. Fellow member of management used to come in early all the time (but not do any work) to get extra pay and nothing was said, but if I signed in anything before start time on the dot I got bollocked by higher up because they might go over wages budget.

Have you asked them about it? I worked with someone similar and when I asked e.g. 'why are they not held to the same standard' I was told I was wrong.

Why were you wrong? 🤔🙄
No, I’ve not been back in the office yet. If it gets brought up again, I will say something about how expectations are consistent across the team. One occasion when I pushed back, I got taken into a room and “told off”.

They would just say 'I don't think that's true/ that's not the case'. I said that I think we should all be held to the same standard and treated fairly. It never changed and they left a few weeks ago. But the person in question who didn't seem to have to do anything did tell me that they'd been to occupational health and so management couldn't touch them.

Lazy work colleague yet again (same one) has been to visit a client this am, they weren’t in, so instead of sorting/rearranging the apt themselves she has left it for the duty worker (me) 🙄 to contact them when she’s been allocate the time for it 😤 Her collection is doing the rounds (thankfully she’s leaving) I definitely won’t be contributing to it 😅 pointless raising with boss as she’s a major suck up to her 😖

Oh right, so theyre untouchable 🤔 My TL says it’s really difficult to get rid of this lazy person as they have been here years (4 years) and that he thinks he’s untouchable. Well, he is, clearly! He’s running rings round the LM and TL and pissing off the rest of the team.

It really builds up huge resentment when management go overboard micromanaging some people while letting others completely off the hook. One place I worked where there was a lazy a, who got away with dossing her way through the week - and was always late - timekeeping would be brought up as a general thing at staff meetings. It just made the rest of us lose respect for the management and pissed us off, in general. I didn't work there very long, thankfully. But if that woman had put a fraction of the intelligence and effort into work that she put into ways of avoiding it, she could have run the place!

Yes, I've been struggling with perimenopause and they advised me to go to occupational health, whilst admitting that they themselves had been to occupational health due to our workplace causing them stress. She said SLT can't touch me then.

But the thing is we are teachers and I'd been doing extra lunch duties/ assemblies/ data inputs/ test marking/ all the planning etc because they couldn't due to stress. I actually like doing all of those things but as another tattler says, the resentment builds when you are doing extra because someone else can't/ won't. Especially as I myself am going through a physical change and have my own struggles.

I used to work with someone like that.

She had been there for years and started alongside two others who eventually became her, and my, managers. First thing every morning, one of the managers would do a trawl of our workload, cherry pick the simplest and easiest bits and assign it to Ms Lazy-a. The rest of us wading through the difficult stuff would be told to up our productivity or else. When Ms Lazy-a made yet another duck up, our managers would tie themselves in knots and tell the client the tallest of tall tales to cover up for her while they would hang others out to dry for a rare mistake. I witnessed that myself while on secondment to the client.

There was a sitution on my team during Covid when the males didnt have to step up and do a certain task. When I asked why I got a warning.
This continued and I spoke to the manager months later and said it looked like our bigger boss was a massive sexist making women do this but not his favorite employees who happen to be men.
I said the whole company were talking about it.
Next thing male colleagues are doing the same tit as women and bitched constantly about it.
We ripped into them and pulled them up everytime they slacked off.
No idea who did it but someone invited a big boss into that particular chat.
They could see how they still dodged it as much as possible, so boss started jumping in and making them do it and putting their names in first.
All I had to do was say the word sexism and he started paying attention.

One of the more tit managers has come up with a way of us logging our tasks using an app which on the face of it is a good idea. Except he is adding every day new tasks which are highly specific and often one-offs. I know that they want to use the data from this app to produce reports and as I know a fair bit about this, I sent an email suggesting that they think about what they wanted to get from this data and come up with some categories, sub-categories and use a location so they can produce some meaningful reports.

Well. I got a lecture from the main person doing this (who I know is not particularly computer literate or understanding of how data works) basically telling me he’s creating a map of hot spots and if he needs help, he will ask me. That’s his way of telling me to mind my own bleeping business. duck you then. I tried to help you, you can piss right off when you’ve been asked to produce graphs at short notice on the number of specific tasks by area.

When someone goes to your manager over something really bleeping minor, that they could have come to you about and you could have fixed instantly. 🙄

When someone arrives late and immediately turns up the air con without asking, despite everyone else in there being fine with the temperature already. Makes me so mad! Of course you’re going to be hot if you’ve just walked inside!!

I got an email at 6am chasing me about something sent at 10pm last night, like we’re all a 24hr service. Purposefully sent it to the back of my to do list today.
