Went back to work yesterday after time off, just half a day to catch up on emails etc and get myself ready for Monday. My phone was ringing at 8:10am 😤 messages from people all while I was off saying “can you call me about this when you’re back”, absolutely zero bleeping peace. Thank god I don’t have a work phone, I’d smash it with a hammer.

My mum died on Monday so I took half the week off stupidly coming back on Thursday. I’d also been off for two week prior with planned leave so first morning back my boss informed me someone is leaving with their last day being next Fri so I’ll be picking up their job.
I sat through an overview with the girl and realised my boss had vastly understated the work and now I’ve spent most of the night crying and being sick with stress. Why do bosses think this is ok especially if someone has had a loss three days before?? I’m looking to leave but I’ve only been there 8 months and hated it as again the job isn’t what was stated. Arghhh

Sorry for the loss of your mum. That's very insensitive of your boss.

With the person leaving and the workload being passed on to you - document all aspects of the workload and repeatedly raise how much work it is (to get this issue front and centre) Ask about updates on them filling the role. I think bosses just expect someone to suck up and cover the job and then get demanding when things aren't done on time!
Remember it's not your fault if stuff doesnt get done on time as no one can cover a whole other role!

So sorry for your loss. Work stress is the last thing you need when you're still grieving. Definitely document everything and be clear with them that it's not feasible for you to do two jobs.

Thank you it was just a bit of a blindside as the meeting with my manager started as a back to work wellbeing chat and ended with here is a new role you’ve got 1 weeks training then it’s action stations.
I think I just had a bit of a collapse last night but thankfully my husband has been lovely. I’ll do as you say @Popcornshovel and document everything but also the lack of thought too.

Things like this really make you think, don't they... We're all just a bum on a seat to the employer.

The way they can be like 'yeah sorry for your bereavement but by the way here's a whole other workload for you to cover as someone is leaving'.

I'm very sorry for your loss, @Norfolking Good
Thank you.
I made the decision to resign from the role as I’d been miserable in it and this last little bomb was the deal breaker for me.
I’ve been signed off sick for my notice period so I’ll start job hunting and hopefully find something much better suited to my skills. I’m lucky I’ve got some savings I can live off and a supportive husband but realise I’m very lucky.

Sounds like the right call to make, honestly. If they treat you like that without consideration and the job isn't what was advertised, best to leave.
Wishing you the best with finding the right role, and sorry to hear your loss.

They keep hiring people as managers who, while their experience and technical knowledge are stellar, have always had assistants to do their administrative tasks for them. They struggle badly because at the company where I work, management doesn't get admins. Not even the top executive has an admin. The either do things incorrectly or they're calling and messaging me on Teams constantly. Some of them have made grave errors in the system that couldn't be fixed. I don't understand why the recruiters don't ask them if they have hands on administrative skills.

TL is back from their 2 week leave and is making a big deal about how many emails they have. Equally, I turn around numerous times and they are messing about on their personal phone. THEN faffing trying to make a poll for sweet and savoury food to bring in when we have a team fuddle. My co worker is losing her cool ranting at me because she has been doing the TL’s work for the last 2 weeks while they were off and she hasn’t asked to take it back. I do feel sorry for her, as it’s a lot of time taken from her own projects, but, she’s not setting boundaries or even attempting to give it back to the TL, so whatever I say, she gets defensive. I can’t win.
Stop bloody witching about doing her work, or say something to her ffs.

I came back to work this week following annual leave, my work colleague called me my first day back to work and constantly moaned (she is notorious for forever moaning) she’s what a call a “mood hoover” 😂 eventually she asked me how my holiday was then went back to whinging 😆 anyway she had a bad day yesterday with clients which I completely understand isn’t nice but we all do on occasion we just don’t harp on about it the way she does! today she’s gone for an apt and as i predicted she’s already pre empted that work will be left if she’s not back in time and the poor sod (me) will be left to deal with it on Monday 😠 baring in mind she also has a young kid and I know full well she doesn’t have childcare on a Friday so yeah that’s another bloody reason she won’t get anything done 😤 Fuming as it’s my day off and she’s messaged me to moan about work related tit, plus it’s her whole attitude she constantly moans about the job, the boss etc wish she would leave tbh as she says she doesn’t want to do the job etc and she emotionally drains me & other team members but seems to lack the intelligence to know she’s doing it 😖

I'm so tired of people trying to shove the work they don't want to do off on me. I have the lowest tier title and am paid the least, yet they want me to take on more work. It would be different if there was a staffing shortage or a role that has yet to be filled, but it's just people who don't want to bother with certain parts of their job. Or they are hired for a management position that includes administrative tasks but they're "overwhelmed", so I am asked to do some of those tasks. Well, how about you hand over some of that six figure salary if I'm to do part of your job, Mr. Overwhelmed??
I've kept quiet up until now, but I'm getting older and crankier and I don't feel like just taking it on the chin anymore. They're not going to like it but oh well.

Just about to give someone feedback on something I’ve already given him feedback on three times before. Give me bleeping strength.

I got such great support on here while I was struggling hugely with my toxic job over about 7 months, I left and still up and down dealing with the issues 5 months later.
I am doing much better in some ways, working in peoples homes. One of my new clients lives right next to my old workplace (next street) and I’m going to walk right next to it. I could take a longer route but part of me wants to walk by the building and enjoy NOT having to go in and to think how far I’ve come!

Someone sent me a reminder email to do something I’d agreed to do yesterday (no agreed timeframe), this morning.

I’ve been in a training course all day. I’ve popped back up on Teams and he’s messaged with a “friendly reminder”.

I was going to do it this afternoon but I think I’ll do it next week now 🖕🏻
