If your manager always respected you then nothing should change.Has anyone had a bad experience when handing in notice? I am doing it tomorrow and expecting the worst....snide/nasty comments etc.
Yes I have but it just solidified the reasons I resigned. At least you will only have to put up with it for your notice period & if you’re lucky they might put you on gardening leave.Has anyone had a bad experience when handing in notice? We used to have a force feeder…. “tiger bread?” “No thanks.” *colleague walks back to canteen* *comes with a wedge of bread about 7cms thick with an equal amount of butter and drops it on your desk*Colleagues who try and force their home made baking on you. If it aint m&s or lidl I don't wanna know
I used to work in an office and they`d have a buffet for the opening of an envelope, and it walways sauage rolls crips and other crap i didnt like - and would make such a big deal over itColleagues who try and force their home made baking on you. If it aint m&s or lidl I don't wanna know
I’ve been on the outside of the favourites bubble for years. It’s quite embarrassing that managers do this actually. So unprofessional. When your boss openly favours other colleagues - they don't even attempt to hide itAnyone have any advice on that? I don't want to confront my boss so I just avoid him as much as I can.
This so much!!!!11When your office celebrate everything with nights out. I hate it and generally have an excuse. I don’t want to socialise with my colleagues. I’m not able to get out of the Christmas party. Dreading it.
I had this and actually brought it up along with other issues and it didnt make even the smallest difference. In fact it made things worse. The only advice I can give is to leave. When your boss openly favours other colleagues - they don't even attempt to hide itAnyone have any advice on that? exactly!! My colleagues are like this but they will look forward to the stupidest shit. My work does a summer competition for all departments. I say no, cue everyone “omg why? it’s so much fun”This so much!!!!11
Our Xmas day is mandatory () and there's an evening element that all the cool kids go to until the wee small hours. Hate going, hate seeing SLT doing fucking skits, hate everyone getting wasted as soon as the bar opens, hate eating with them all. I fucking hate mandatory fun.
Some of them really, really look forward to this all year and I feel like that's a bit sad? Imagine looking forward to getting dressed up to hang out with work people who have to be there and getting wrecked in front of them all and being subject to gossip and banter forever more.... No ta. I'd literally rather be working.
Ah sorry to hear that. How did you go about bringing it up if you don't mind me asking? Although it probably won't make much difference in my case either - pretty sure I'll just get put in my place and treated like a kidI had this and actually brought it up along with other issues and it didnt make even the smallest difference. We had a lot of problems regarding culture. I am a manager with 4 direct reports and mistakes my team made were always highlighted but not so much other teams mistakes. I brought it up in that context and mainly focussed on how my team felt as they had all given me feedback and I said it was important for retention of staff. I am glad I brought it up as I actually handed in my notice today and I feel at least I tried but there were definitely a lot of moments where I thought why did I do this.Ah sorry to hear that. Look, I don't want to bang on about this, but fuuuuckexactly!! My colleagues are like this but they will look forward to the stupidest shit. My work does a summer competition for all departments. I say no, cue everyone “omg why? it’s so much fun”
uh… because I can’t think of anything worse than spending my evening (non work hours btw!) in heat that resembles the devils ball sack doing sports day like I’m in year 4
God that’s awful. I had a manager who would actively look THROUGH me at social events but nothing this extremeA company I used to work for had a holiday shindig every year. The first year I worked there I went. Now, this company is very clique-ish and I was most definitely NOT a member of the cool crowd. So I got a nice dress, fixed my hair and makeup and drove to the venue. Only to be completely and totally ignored by everyone at the event. I had even set my handbag and sweater on a chair at a table where the other ladies were sitting and left to get myself a drink. When I got back someone had removed my things and set them on a planter. I guess I wasn't going to be sitting there! So I found a seat off by myself in another room and spent the evening alone. The ONLY people who talked to me were the friend of one of the "cool group" coworkers who had been unwillingly dragged to the party, and the nice girlfriend of another coworker. Otherwise I was completely ignored.
The next year the same "cool group" coworker (who, incidentally, was my supervisor) asked me if I was going. I said no. She asked "Why, didn't you have a good time last year?" And I replied simply "No". She seemed to think back and I think she realized I had zero reason to want to repeat that experience.
So no, not a fan of after hours holiday events.
It's the same where I am, only it's a full-day thing. I've never known anyone be 'allowed' to work though - it's essentially mandatory to go to the Xmas day out and AL isn't allowed.Just found out for our office Xmas do , it’s during work time, it’s a lunch at restaurant, and then we can have the afternoon off, i.e. go home early…but only if you go and eat! If you don’t want to go an eat, you have to work the full day in the office… when noone else is working. I really don’t like Xmas meals, I have allergies and preordering from a limited set menu blah blah blah it’s just not fun, plus the past few times I have been it’s been as exciting as a wet fart. I’ll be opting for working in the office, but I don’t understnad how you get rewarded with the afternoon off if you go and eat, but if you don’t go and eat, you have to work til 5pm… when noone else is working. Just give us all the afternoon off then!
