It's approaching 10 years since Asif Kapadia's documentary film, hard to believe... it was the best that's ever been produced IMO. Interesting insights into the making of it:

Her family seemingly hated it which usually means there was more fact than fiction in it. It was certainly better than the one Janice did a while back on BBC. I think she honestly did do the best she could considering her own issues and illness. Anyone who is related to or friends with an addict knows trying to help them is like trying to run in quicksand. You can be there 24/7 but unless they themselves admit they want help, it's pointless.

One thing I wasn't keen on was her and her husband acting as if Mitch always did his best and was only ever looking out for Amy even though we now know that wasn't always the case. That and her friend revealing she and Amy had a thing which I don't think was right for her to say when Amy was unable to say whether she was okay with it being made public or not.

I see that Sara Aspin, the woman Blake was with after Amy who he had 2 kids with (now adopted), was recently found dead. Apparently Blake is living in a bedsit in Leeds.

They were obviously adopted because neither of their parents could give up drugs. Their was a very sad story about Sara going from neighbour to neighbour asking to borrow a pan or have eggs and cheese.

Sara and Blake met in rehab in the city I lived in. I worked at a university in town and overlookes the central entrance where students used to congregate and put down their bags and sit down. We often used to see Sarah and Blake come down the hill from rehab and linger there looking for a good mark to beg from or an unattended bag to steal. Once they realised they’d been spotted and recognised they’d quickly move on down the hill to a complex of flats that was notorious for drug dealing, so it was no surprise when both of them failed to get clean then.

Blake says he’s been clean for years, but obviously not quickly enough to get his children back.

Does anyone know if it was an open, family adoption Sara’s kids went into, or a closed adoption. If it’s a closed adoption I don’t relish the job their parents will have of explaining their past to them. They’d know that was their mother who’s death had been reported and they’d have to choose whether to tell them their birth mother has now died and exactly who she was, which I guess they’ll have to given they’re in their late teens. But when those kids find out, they will have one hell of a rabbit hole to go down regarding their birth parents. Poor kids.

How is it that everyone around Blake dies and yet he lives on? He is an actual cockroach and such a waste of carbon. I will never forgive him for Amy and that whole situation. I know she has some responsibility in it too. But without him ruining her life, it would have been a different story.

Sara had an older daughter who she had when she was young who is now grown up with her own child. The children they had together would only be early to mid teens now.

That useless lump Blake has resurfaced. A interview on a podcast to share “his side” incoming. Also. The kids Sara had with Blake were adopted out. Which was probably for the best honestly.

I have to admit I’d be quite interested in hearing what’s happened to him since Amy died. It is interesting and makes you think about what Amy would have made of it all.

Amy was successful and died young because of addiction so she’s almost the glamorous face of it all. Blake is the reality of addiction though, eking out a crappy life, losing your children, seeing people around you die.

He did a very good job of whitewashing and not discussing several things that would paint him in a less positive light. And not one word about his recently deceased baby mamma, or their kids- of which both were adopted out. Or how he was selling stories to the tabloids. There was a couple comments about the porn movie that was being shopped around of Amy and how some people managed to get that shut right down. The implication was that Blake was behind it, from what was implied.

I don’t even know that I knew this -but it certainly sounds like him. God he’s the worst. Just because hes soft spoken doesn’t mean he is good. People are deluded if they are taking what he says at face value

The full story is even worse. He was sent to rehab after failing a court ordered test, escaped and sneaked into her hospital room, gave her stuff then handed himself into the cops.

I think that was expected to be interest in Amy, probably around the 15th anniversary of her death this summer, rather than poor Sara dying. Also, no press is allowed to report anything about the children because they have been subject to care proceedings. If it’s an in-family adoption with Blake maintaining any level of contact he would lose that if he discussed it with the press, even if they didn’t report it.

He probably didn’t. Their relationship was based on mutual addictions rather than genuine affection for the other person, and you only really know each other as addicts, not the real person.

Amy was completely clean of drugs when she died, they didn’t kill her. She died of alcohol poisoning which she was more vulnerable to because of long standing bulimia, nothing to do with drugs. Both pre-dated her involvement with Blake by a long way, her mother guessed she was an alcoholic when she was 14 at a family wedding watching her drink. She had an addictive personality and getting to the music business in that era it was awash with drugs and if Blake hadn’t introduced her somebody else would.

Also Blake was once a vulnerable boy with a very sad background when someone introduced him to drugs, but nobody ever talks about that.

I think this was in Janis's book (correct me if not OP!) where her mum/grandma seen how Amy drank and it looked like someone with a problem with drink, probably the pace of it, rather than her actually being an alcoholic at age 14, more like an indicator maybe.
