I love an overseas supermarket trip! (except for in America, because they're usually giant and too overwhelming 😅)
I so agree! American supermarkets are so rammed with chemical crap that even I suddenly feel turned off and the fun has gone.
I love coming back from hols with foreign herbs, choc bars and biscuits lining my suitcase.

We have recently moved house and are now near an Aldi (where previously we had a Lidl) and I'm really disappointed with it. They just don't seem to have the nice things that Lidl had.

Am hoping to see some inspo on this thread (and I'm not talking about frickin Frickles! 🤮 )
I think I know what you mean. I've noticed that Aldi seems to have loads of ultra processed food whereas the Lidl has less of it.
I noticed this years ago with Morrisons. I asked about it and was told it was to fit the demographic of the area. Poor area - upf food. Well heeled area - proper food.
I went to an Aldi in a posh area and the upf food wasn't so obvious.🤔

I really struggled for an Easter pudding big enough to feed all this year. I toured every shop and in desperation got two of the lidl apple strudels, £1.55 feeds 6 ..and it was great, everyone loved it. 20 mins in the airfryer, flaky, appley, yummy!.

Did anyone get the Dubai chocolate from Lidl? Was only on their Tik Tok, thought it may have been in some stores
Absolutely bizarre for them only to release a few thousand bars and only sell them via TikTok. That stuff would have been flying off the shelves if they’d just done a normal limited edition release. Such a weird choice.

Still not managed to get the chicken garlic loaded dip so surviving on the Indian inspired one which I'm enjoying 😋

Our Lidl is having a refurb of sorts. Freezers all moved by tills & look really good, some fridges & non perishables moved about so takes longer to find a few things as not previously where you expected them.

What's most interesting is that we now have 2 sets of alarm barriers on entry, a scan your till receipt exit barrier & another alarm screen closer to staff incase you do managed to actually steal something.
I'm not complaining at all so long as less theft keeps prices low.

Got some elite picky bits for Eurovision, a nice mix of Aldi and Lidl! I’ve opened the oregano crisps from Lidl already and they’re beautiful! I’ve also got the apicy sweetcorn fritters, red pepper and feta pastries & honey and mustard cocktail sausages from Aldi too plus some dips. Will report back on what they’re like later.

The Lidl festive ice creams are really good - we’ve had the chocolate orange and the mint choc chip, would definitely recommend and buy again

I’m doing most of my shopping in Sainsburys at the min, with the nectar card I’m finding it really reasonably priced.
Get OUT!!!!

🤣🤣 only joking

My local Sainsbo is alright but the thing I enjoy most about Aldi and Lidl is the size. I get knackered and bothered and brain farts in the big supermarkets. When I get home I need a lie down and I’ve forgotten key items on my list. Even if a Sainsburys shop was the same price as Aldi I’d still choose Aldi. Except Sainsbury house wine boxes. They’re the best box wine I’ve had since I lived in Oz.

They've got really nice Sicilian lemons in the fruit section. My husband cut one open this morning and the scent filled our kitchen - it was so delicious I went back today to stock up and got the last one in the shop.

Highly recommend if you see them.

I bought the Oakham Triple Cooked chips for tonight to go with Steak, and the Madagascan custard to go with a sticky toffee pud!
I read that as triple choc chip [cookies] and was so confused (and slightly alarmed 😅) for a moment.

I'm curious, we sometimes have "British week" at Lidl in my country, do you get "German week" in UK as well? 🤣
