Some horrendous videos circulating of people falling off the USAF plane whilst it's in the air 😔

From my armchair I feel some of the criticism of the Afghan army is unfair. It's never been a cohesive country, if they knew it was a matter of time before they lost control once their support was withdrawn then maybe it's best to surrender and save bloodshed?
That’s the big issue with the armed forces. It’s all good training them and giving them the best equipment but if their government is corrupt and bounces at the first sign of trouble (the U.K. ambassador is still in the country helping but the leaders have already left) then it’s going to make the men lose morale. Their own government doesn’t have their backs and is corrupt and that trickles down to the armed forces which is so badly mismanaged. They don’t have the confidence that they can win against the Taliban and they don’t have the confidence in the government. Someone compared it to the West against the Nazis but back then there was confidence that we could beat the Nazis and there was support from the government and the people. It’s a completely different situation out there in Afghanistan. Compare them to the Taliban who may not have the best equipment or most sophisticated techniques but they have an ironclad belief that they will win and what they are doing is right. You can’t compete with that when you’re a lone military.

UK defence secretary getting choked up talking about the evacuation of allies from Kabul.

The videos of people falling from the US planes make me feel sick. And what a parallel with the images of people falling from the WTC.

How desperate they must have felt to risk certain death 😢 the fear and suffering endured by ordinary Afghan people is absolutely horrendous. My heart is broken thinking of the children caught up in this mess 😢 It’s merely a privilege of birth that we live in a place that allows us to live freely (covid restrictions aside). How different life is for some people 💔

I guess all this proves is you simply can’t impose democracy in a country which has no tradition of it. Looked at in the entirety of human experience democracy is the exception not the rule.

Biden speaking at 3.45 eastern, 8:45 UK time.

I do wonder what would have been different if trump was still in power, it seems like Biden inherited a bad situation and made it even worse. The one thing he didn't want was an emergency evacuation and that's exactly what's happened.

In all the videos I see men trying to escape but I am wondering about the women and children? Where are they?

Stop making up absolute shit - Please read our rules and why they're important
I fail to see how anything can be considered a beautiful thing when it is used as a form of oppression towards women in other countries, sorry but there is nothing 'beautiful' about that. As for the argument that it won't do anything, no it won't but that isn't the point.
A whole lot of Taqiyah going on here that's for sure. Whoever does not agree stand true to your convictions. However I've noticed that tattle is not the place where it's ready to hear a non liberal view. One way ticket to getting your account banned. It's a place to pretend that you can have a discussion with disagreement (just ignore who makes you upset) but no, the majority opinion rules. As long as they can call you the R word along with other names to shut down your opinion. Although you are a VIP member it might work differently for you 😉

I can't believe some of the footage I have seen today. It's absolutely heartbreaking. On a selfish note, it has really made me take stock and appreciate how fortunate I am to have been born in a country where we have so much freedom.

I can't imagine the fear and desperation these people are feeling nor how quickly the Taliban have taken over!

Have just watched a few other videos taken at Kabul airport and there seems so be some women and quite a few children there too 😢 this journalist’s account on Instagram has a few videos up.
Sadly seems like nobody is making it out at the moment. As far as I'm aware it's only other countries getting their citizens out using the army.

There's quite a few British citizens on Twitter saying they're stuck in Kabul and have been trying to get out for days but the Embassy has not been contactable. They've allegedly been told to book a commercial flight out of there but there are no flights.

This is only the start of it as well. Going to be weeks of absolute carnage and madness.

Gosh the footage is heartbreaking. I’ve had to take a break from the news because it’s stressing me out. I’m very thankful that I have the privilege of walking away. So sad

Biden is a joke and can be held FULLY responsible for what has now occurred in Afghanistan.

But hey, he is still the best President ever - as some still stupidly believe.

I am absolutely terrified for the women and girls who will be left behind. God knows what atrocities will happen to them. Every time I think of it, I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. Those poor, poor women and girls left behind.

To be fair "ordinary" British citizens were told to get out immediately, back on 6 August.

That's 10 days ago.

I realise it's hard to just pack up and go at a moments notice but they were warned, unless they are military or work in the embassy it is hard to see why they're still there.
