I sadly think the story has just begun with all of this now.

85 billions dollars of US firepower is now in Afghanistan. Admittedly a lot of it unusable, but it doesn’t make me sleep easier at night.

I had many thoughts on the Pen situation but didn't know how to verbalise any of them.

Anyway. My thoughts are on those who were injured in the blast the other day and in hospital. Are they now stuck there?

As a side note my husband is convinced Biden wants to move his fight elsewhere. He's adamant it's only a matter of time before troops will be sent to the next target which he believes will be Iran.
I think Iran would be an abolsute disaster, don't they possiblyhave nuclear weapons?

I visited the War Museum in Saigon/Ho Chi Min.
By the way the locals still call it Saigon.
The amount of American armour there was astounding.
This is just like the withdrawal from Vietnam but a million times worse.
Feel devastated for the people of Afghanistan.

He should have double checked the documentation that was needed for his staff. That was his responsibility toward them, to ensure their safe exit. They relied on him, big chief motormouth, to guide them and direct them so that all the 'i' s were dotted and 'T's crossed. He neglected them to focus on the animals, simple as that. Not the officials fault, his. He knew this was coming and dropped the ball.

You can bet he had documentation for the animals, all the boxes ticked nicely and paperwork perfect or they'd never have passed muster for a flight. Shame on him not doing the same for the humans who depended on him.
They changed the documentation two hours before they all got through the compounds/ fences etc. I think he did the best he could under very difficult circumstances. I also don't think he can be compared to Captain Toms daughter really..
The animals are now in quarantine here in the U.K and are all O.K. and in good condition. I doubt very much they will be riddled with diseases when there were loads of vets attending to them. They will all have had their vaccinations etc. I wish them all well, at least he has stood up for what he believed in and why should all those animals be PTS.? Non of this was their fault.
I wonder who paid for the plane, someone just paid outright. Maybe Ricky Gervais or Deborah Mears?

Spencer Haber seems to have paid for the majority of it apparently. From what I understand he also helped the other rescue

It also sounds like Pen wasn’t the only person on the plane? Doesn’t look very good on the MoD

I think it was vets with him already based on his other tweets, rather than other people based on that tweet.

This just breaks my heart…… it looks like the US army went in first. It just looks now like bitter ex leaving the house doesn’t it….

I think Pen appears to be a kind man and his heart was obviously in the right place trying to get his staff and animals out, but the time, campaigning, money, and resources spent on the animals during a time like this is pretty crazy. Obviously not a simple situation but still. And I think the gov are useless, so not excusing them either before someone tells me to blame them. Trust me it would be hard for me to despise them more than I already do. 😂

Hopefully I'll stop seeing about him all over Twitter now. I see many people I follow and people I know personally seem to have already lost interest in what's happening in Afghanistan now the animals are safe which is really sad - and I know that just because people aren't posting doesn't mean they don't care, but it is pretty telling when so many can only find the energy to campaign for cats and dogs during a crisis like this.

3 kids killed…seriously, I thought we were leaving the taliban to it now? 🤷🏻‍♀️🙄
Worth noting that the Taliban would have had to approve this, though obviously it’s just going to look bad for the US more than anything, and Isis-K is a threat to the Taliban now anyway so it’s beneficial to them (for now)

This is an interesting info graphic about what’s been left.

Pen Farthing is going to be one of those don't talk about topics IRL. I notice my sister in law who's always eating nasty cheap fast food that was no doubt awfully treated is apparently a huge advocate of animal welfare posting about it 😶.

The most liked mail comments, I do think people conveniently forget what happened during WW2.

Deffo. History shows too that Brits would rather go for animals. We founded animal charities before children’s charities in the Victorian era.
I know this is because animals can’t talk or tell us anything and are the most vulnerable, but so are young children.
But centuries have shown that we feel that animals can’t help life, we choose if or how to care for them and we should help them if not. Hardly anyone ever says ‘why get a dog if you can’t feed it’….. Animals are cute, you can have them as a status symbol, train them and in some views control them, and they serve a purposes emotionally that they comfort people and soothe them (even cats!)
Whereas people tend to judge those lower then them who have had kids and can’t provide for them, as if fertility is something you can turn off and on depending on your income, that contraception has always existed, works with every religion and that women always have to choice to use it, and that accidents never happen. Oh, and ignore the basics that humans have a biological need to reproduce! especially in war torn or poverty stricken countries where your children could die, so the more you have the more chance you have of some surviving (not a biologically proven fact, but it stand to reason doesn’t it)

I think it is hard to generalise.

Some people are big animal lovers and don't like people as much, maybe because of bad experiences.
Some people want to put people first and don't think that animals have the same standard.
Most people are probably sympathetic to both people and animals.

Thankfully more & more humans are realising they have no more rights to this planet than any other creature.

I think quite a lot of people are total hypocrites; they want cheap meat as long as they don't see how it was raised but want cute animals protected.

i don’t think it’s about ‘rights’ to anything, it just so happens that currently the most evolved species on the planet is the human, and we probably outnumber all other species. personally, even though I think animals have lots of rights, do I put them above human rights? No. Equal maybe, but the cruelest form of animal mistreatment is humans to each other.
Personally I think we have to consider children in the same bracket as animals. They don’t ask to be born, and we should help them as much as animals- can anyone really say they would expect a four year old to find their own money for food? Because when we say pets are totally reliant on humans, so are young children, but yet they seem to be two different categories.
And let’s be honest, when it comes to things like dogs, cats etc, the pedigree animals that sell for like £2,000 only exist because someone chose to breed two dogs, so when people say having children is a choice, so is to some extent having an animal. But no one would say to a dog breeder ‘don’t have them if you can’t afford to keep them if they don’t sell’ but wouldn’t think twice of judging a parent for that. And we saw that remark on here in a different format.

Probably true. But at the same time, that responsibility should go on the food industry. Farmers need fair wages otherwise they will charge more for higher welfare because well, it costs more to do And supermarkets need to invest in fairer welfare for animals, but whilst theu can get things cheap from counties without the care towards animals we have, they will never change. It’s a cycle with no end and no real answer. And going vegan isnt for everyone unfortunately, which is fair enough. It’s certainly not for me, and I own that and try to ensure that what I do do regarding animal produce has the highest welfare for all that it can.
