I am old enough to have been around on the Gay scene since the late 60's and men like PS have always been around. Not forgetting that Manchester was and still is a centre for TV production, and kids heads are turned by someone that is on the telly, even more so back then. We all knew them as "Chicken Hawks" (chicken being the term for a young man new to the scene). They would swoop in and snatch these youngsters taking them under their wing to "show them the ropes".
These older guys were all the same, as soon as they got bored of the youngster, they would be discarded to fend for themselves. However these kids had not been "shown the ropes" they had been used, sometimes passed around and when they grew into men they lost their appeal. And then onto the next one.
The poor kids had been taken to posh places, gone onto guest lists, been showered with gifts and then been expected to go back to a normal life when they had lost the glow of youthfulness. No wonder so many of them went on to have troubled lives and drug and alcohol problems.
I thought all that had been left in the past, what with being gay becoming more acceptable, and I am sad to realise that it is still around. The fact that the age of consent is 16, makes this sort of behaviour legal, even though morally it's distasteful.
As for PS growing up in an era when being gay wasn't acceptable, please. He was in a profession that has always been known for the prevalence of gay men, in a city that has always had a great gay scene where he would have been accepted. Try being gay and involved in the construction industry in Manchester in the 60's and 70's. I never resorted to grooming kids because it was difficult coming to terms with being gay.
I am waiting for all the other victims of PS to come out and hold him to account. There has to be more. This sort of behaviour doesn't happen just once, it is a pattern.
GLAD I GO THAT LOT OFF MY CHEST...sorry for shouting (one for the JM followers).
