I can’t speak for others who found the Meldrum’s actions racist, but as you have shared your story/reasoning for not finding ‘liftgate’ racist, I would like to share my experience.
I am a mixed race mother with mixed race children. I have two teenage children, twinagers I suppose. As you say, your “black African” sister in law found a KKK reference funny, I can’t say I find race or genetics funny myself but it is fascinating, especially as my children all look different and if you did not know them personally...you would not even think they are siblings,along with the difference in facial features...they are very different in skin colour. One has grown up always being thought of/passing for being White,the other looks an ambiguous but definitely non White ethnicity. Science works in mysterious ways but that is hard to explain to the child who is one of a few non white looking children in the whole school, who does have racist comments directed at him...while his sibling does not,imagine being the parent who deals with that!
So,my beautiful and talented son went away to a football residential about a year ago, after training and showers a group of boys put white towels on their heads like hoods and made comments/jokes about looking like the KKK...this was all directed at my son. My son,this confident and articulate boy who could not comprehend why this happened to him and why he did not respond, who beat himself up about it, dwelled on it, could not face/lost interest in playing football...even though he is a talented player and played since he was young, he changed in personality and it really did play on his mind. I admit, a completely different situation from your sister in law...but I could not find anything funny about the boys looking like the KKK.
When Mrs.Meldrum first put the vlog with the,what I consider, racist comment up...I contacted her to politely to tell her it was offensive, I followed it with my experience with my children to highlight why I was upset. For me, the casual throwaway racist comment was not acceptable on a family vlogging channel.
I was blocked!
You say growing up you heard far worse racist comments, so did I...for me any racist comment is unacceptable...there is no scale that measures ‘a little bit racist’.
I don’t watch the comedians you mention, I do watch Trevor Noah...maybe his experience of apartheid resonated with me more being South African. Comedy and what we find funny is personal, just as it seems our personal experience affects what we deem racist. To you, I may seem a sensitive ‘snowflake’ who needs to “lighten up” but again I say, to me...the Meldrum’s actions during and post ‘liftgate’ are racist.

An update (so so many have asked - joke).
I had my op to remove cancer as spoke about in previous thread. I’m left with severe changes facially. It’s changed me in a week. I’m less happy, less confident and very low.
This isn’t a Meldrum poor me post, I have a point to make...
Continuing to watch people play out their perfect lives via social media wasn’t helping me. It was hurting me. Last night I deactivated my FB and deleted my IG app. No more.
Comparison is indeed the ultimate thief of joy. I feel better already without the pressure. I can only imagine the pressure Rebecca feels to keep up with everyone.
Ive learned I can’t, and looking on just is making me sadder.
Genuinely, Rebecca, contemplate stepping away. Not just for you but the kids. It’s sad to say but so much of my time was spent scrolling. No law I plan to read with the kids, play games, put more into my business and myself.

When she updated her “Lucy” amazon account to her own name she forgot about the reviews!! NoW it shows her reviewing her “own” book or who ever the unsuspecting person was who actually wrote the book. Think she forgets that she filmed life on the Meldrums and instastoried everyday so when did she have time to created this book when she was such a moody moaning cow until they stopped The Meldrums the first time with the endless cups of HOT tea on the insta, she maybe added a few pages to it but there is no way she did the whole thing she’s too flakey never sticks to anything.

Hands up I had a privileged childhood provided by my parents hard work and along with the ponies, family holidays and love, they instilled in me a strong work ethic and that you have two hands so one can always reach out to help someone.
That work ethic served me well when I had to solo parent two children - one very ill - when my partner walked away and literally disappeared leaving me with a new born and a toddler. I have begged for nothing.
I worked my butt off, without winning the lottery I have no mortgage on our home, the AGA is always on as well as the kettle and I will help anyone I can.
I doubt you know my face and even if you do, I have nothing to fear. I do not 'follow' you, I have never liked a post or commented on a post so I do not qualify as a 'troll'.
I express my opinion on someone who lives their life in the public eye and runs their business online, and my opinion is that you are leaving a devastatingly destructive Internet footprint as a legacy for your children and your lying, doxxing and erratic behaviour is shaping their future.

Reading of your visit to the food bank to which you took nothing, I mentioned this to my son who is a student. His reply was 'what an a**e'.
I am sure you are aware of the Foodbank App - well six students went onto that App tonight which highlights immediate needs and out of their own money which they have worked for as they all have part time jobs, they have purchased enough off that list to fill four of their old backpacks (also on the list of needs) which will be scrubbed clean so perfect to use and will be handed into the Cyrenians. They begged nothing from the shops - they paid cold hard cash. No one will have to swipe up and it will not be splashed all over an 'instastory' for adulation.
These young men and women are using their two hands to reach out and help someone unconditionally, not using them to grab as much as they can for free whilst begging for more. And you know what Rebecca, I am bloody proud of them !

Aberneccesities have been helping at least one Mum a day recently who has had to flee domestic abuse with her children, leaving home with just what she stood up in. They had the courage to flee not knowing what lies ahead but knowing it cannot be worse than what they face every day, and they are protecting their children.
110 people in Aberdeen have died of Covid and 111 in Aberdeenshire - some of those will be in Banchory. 221 families grieving and unable to be together for funerals and support.
Jobs are being lost, not just one wage earner in the family but both wage earners in the same household with no visible light at the end of the tunnel yet.
Children have been in lockdown for over 20 weeks in households where there is prevalent abuse and often no hot food to eat.
Foodbanks are under greater pressure than they have ever been.
The local funeral directors are not only dealing with COVID but a significant increase in suicides.
All the above are tough, tragic and heartbreaking.
And you have the audacity to say you have had a 'tough old year' whilst being in full employment offshore, new bikes for the whole family and able to take exercise more than once every day in one of the most tranquil areas of Banchory during lockdown with family support just round the corner. You have food on the table, new clothes to aff-link and a large garden for the children to play on their trampoline and swings and each girl heads off to their own bedroom at night having had access to television, tablets and toys.
If you feel you have had a tough old year then it is purely of your own doing and by making that statement it just re-enforces how completely out of touch you are with reality and devoid of empathy.
Just in case you feed back to your fan base I am neither on the dole or overweight (teeny tiny size 6-8 actually and owner of successful business) but..
If I was on the dole, my opinion is till valid.
If I am overweigh my opinion is still valid.
There is a simple descriptive term which in my opinion applies to both directors of Mrs Meldrum Limited and one they both need to address if they wish to flourish.

We are here to see if there is any truth in the rumour that Mrs Rebecca Meldrum has finally decided to step back from her online career. The lady in question has not been heard from or seen since yesterday after it emerged that she screenshot a picture of someone giving the finger just after she deleted her black square on instagram. While some may have believed this was because it didn't go with her orange filtered aesthetic, it has been more widely interpreted as an insult to the BLM movement.
This is not Mrs Meldrum's first foray into racist activity. A quick google search will show that she has history in this particular area. It is claimed she apologised for what has become known as "liftgate" but the apology was more to herself than anyone she may have offended. More recently, she compared her dog's uncut and unruly coat as a "fro". This remark was hastily altered when her stupidity was pointed out to her.
It appears that she may not be able to wriggle her way out of this situation as easily. Her selling page for Tropics skincare has been deactivated after they were made aware of her actions. It is unclear at this time whether this is a ploy as another Tropic selling influencer has also deactivated her main account.
Her lapdog, sorry slave, sorry husband has issued a statement saying she has had "a tough old year" and is going to focus on "being a Mum". Incidentally her career was supposedly built on "being a Mum" so read into that what you will.
In the meantime, her facebook, twitter and two instagram accounts have been deactivated and her hardened fans are understandably bereft.
Blame is being placed entirely at the feet of "overweight" and "unemployed" "trolls" by these sheep, sorry fans (I just can't get the words out today). The fact that she is being called out by some of her former influencer colleagues should bring the focus back to Mrs Meldrum's actions.
So what happens now? Only time will tell. Her husband is rumoured to be doing a 3 week stint on a local oil rig but this remains unconfirmed. He changed his own instagram name recently so some are questioning if there is an attempt to rebrand underway.
