Yeah, some people on here think he’s autistic, and some people on here think he’s just not been raised well and has never been disciplined - I’m firmly convinced it’s both. I have three autistic brothers (I’m NOT saying that makes me an expert, obviously), and he reminds me of them a lot. Though none of my brothers ever interrupt people when they’re speaking, eat with their mouths open, obsess over brands and money, throw tantrums when they don’t get everything they want, etc.. They’re lovely people and great siblings and, like Atticus, are intelligent, well-read, good at lots of things and have impressive memories for facts and figures and stuff like that. They also have faults, like everyone else. But it’s clear Julie has never taught Atticus right from wrong, table manners, to wait your turn to speak, etc.. She probably knows deep down that there is something different about him and, because of that, she can’t be arsed to try to parent him. Which makes her a pathetic excuse for a mother, to be honest.
