I hadn't realised there is a Rowling thread here! I hope you don't mind this little Rowling non-hater joining in.
I lost a friend last year when JK tweeted about women and wrote her essay because ex-friend said JK's book is problematic after her (then recent) "spewing" of hate on social media, and her views endanger the most vulnerable groups and so on. I questioned which recent comments - do you mean "people who menstruate are women"? and...we aren't friends anymore. Me and my big mouth standing up for freedom of speech 😂
Have I read through all the threads? Yes. I'm so glad I've found you!

I agree with comments about Radcliffe - I've yet to see him in something where I don't think "ah yes, and there is DanRad"

tbf theres no point arguing with transphobic people as same as racists its unlikely they'll change their view.
Conflating two different issues is a bit weak and and really lazy. But if you wanna mention race...

Let's use the trans argument:
Born in the wrong body and I 'feel' a woman.

Let's apply that argument say to race...no one would stand for someone saying I was born in the wrong race and allow someone to darken their skin and appropriate as say Nigerian if they were of white European decent. It'd be weird and embarrassing and ridiculous.

Look at Rachel Dolezar...she pretended to be African American but in fact was white. She had darkend her skin, had corn rows etc

There was uproar. She has no clue what it is to be an African American.

But if a woman calls out a man for appropriating as a woman we're transphobic

well thats 1 word I can honestly say i've never been called. If being supportive of the Trans community makes me sexist though i'll take that insult with pride
You're proud to be sexist??? What???

It's all a bit sad now 😢
Its actually a bit funny now as its named after Kelly Holmes now

Double Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly supports campaign group Fair Play for Women who insist women are at a clear disadvantage against male competitors.

Expressing her support for Navratilova, the former athlete said it is: “Nothing to do with being Transphobic and nothing to do with hatred or stopping people leading their lives as they wish. But in sport it’s a different matter for obvious reasons.”

So expect them at some point in the future to cancel the name again. The male cyclist Rachel McKinnon who has won numerous races against much smaller/weaker due to her male development has already tried to cancel Kelly holmes in the base

I will definitely not go around to see what’s the reaction to this tweet was but her haters probably twist themselves into knots to spew what a terf bigot she is, when the only thing she did, is called out a rapist who transitioned after appearing at court…but of course these trans allies jump on anyone who dares to question these things.

Let’s not forget Mermaids telling children if they play with GI Joe they’re a boy and if they like Barbies then they’re a girl.
Fuck that shit. I won’t have my daughter listening to that absolute bullshit.
Totally agree.

I used to come into contact with someone had changed genders from a man to a woman. The men in the office used to make crude comments behind her back but I found her quiet and dignified. She was very brave because this was a long time ago and she would have felt very isolated I would imagine.

Jk is allowed an opinion. Women make up 51 % of the population or the MAJORITY. Yet we are still treated terribly. Yes we have made significant advances in the last few years but have a long way still to go. Look at today's papers- the rape culture in schools shows misogyny is thriving .

I will always be grateful to JK Rowling.
She wrote the most popular books in recent times and at their heart she put a bunch of misfits. The kid who wears glasses ,the ginger boy from a big family, the swotty girl with buck teeth. Geeky Nevil and clutzy Shamus- they were the heroes.
She made loyalty, decency, kindness and friendship heroes with them.
I salute you Jk.

Yes I’m pretty sure most people haven’t actually read what JKR even said, just hop on the ‘A woman said a thing lots of people didn’t like… must also say I don’t like it’. I just saw your post. A few others also backing her up which was nice! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
These are the days we’re living in, sadly. There’s absolutely no middle ground.

‘Actually, i think what JKR said was-‘

‘TERF!’

‘She’s supportive of trans people but thinks women-‘

‘BIGOT!! Why do you want trans people to NOT EXIST?!!’

I can understand why people don’t want to stick their head above the parapet, so kudos to @maytoseptember ❤ Also, I can’t imagine what it’s like for JK having to put up with all this shit, day in, day out, yet she’s still doing it. She’s a queen.

If all trans people recognise that biological females have vaginas, where on earth did this idea of 'cis' females come from?

I was born female, and I am still female, or a woman, I have absolutely no idea why anyone is attempting to change my personal identity and label me cis?

I dont have any issue with anyone wearing whatever they want to, or identifying as whatever gender they choose, I am sure it has been going on for generations.
I do have an issue if it tries to change my identity, or if transwomen, born male, full of testosterone enhanced muscles etc, try to say they have an equal right to compete in all womens events!
And I have issues if we arent allowed to discuss it openly without causing offence!
I agree with all of that and I utterly reject the term "cis". If we respect their right to pronouns they should do the same and not apply terms to us that we don't want.
