This is what annoys me when people talk about widening access at Oxbridge. They talk about schools, and taking account of the kinds of schools people have attended and giving lower offers and so on, but they never really consider the structural issues at Oxford and Cambridge that make it harder for less well off young people to attend. It’s things like having to move out at the end of every term (to her credit, Eve did mention this in her video), the shorter terms and students not being able to work during term-time. I get that the terms are very intense, but many students need to work in order to support themselves at uni. The whole set up seems to assume contacts and the ability to just walk into jobs over the holidays, or to not have to work at all.
