How To Be A Woman is completely made up anyway....she was only single for a tiny amount of time - a year or less - before she met her husband, got married and had her kids. From HTBAW you'd think it was years and years. She carefully leaves out the dates, because her life bears closer resemblance to a 1950s housewife than anything else, which doesn't quite fit her 'I'm a liberated feminist, me' schtick.

In the Guardian celebrities asking Jilly Cooper questions.
This was Moran's.
She is so tedious and genuinely makes me feel quite nauseous.

What rights don't trans people have? Genuine question. They aren't after equal rights, they are after extra rights.

I don't hate trans people, neither am I "phobic" of them. I am just not comfortable with the Pandora's box that is self-ID.

I saw this yesterday and lolled, I must admit. I can’t fucking stand her. Every anecdote/article/book/sitcom she’s ever spoken about or written revolves around her upbringing as one of a big family in a council house. She’s been recycling the same old shite for decades. Can’t stand any of that Twitterati set (which includes Lauren Laverne). Glad somethings finally shut her up.

It is such bollocks - her and Coren both using the same excuse and thinking us thick unwashed who aren't paid a fortune by Murdoch will fall for it.

Just own it ffs. Say 'I wanted them to go to private school because I thought they would do better there.' Just own it. It's so lily-livered to make up this bullshit rather than having the courage of your convictions.
Also from that interview (thanks @MarmiteExtract for the link)

They're probably not making amazing connections if they're aspiring to be the next prime minister or a captain of industry but if they're headed towards a career in the arts or media where better to make useful connections than at a liberal, independent school (£22k+ a year in fees alone) in leafy Hampstead?

I actually don’t hate it as much as I thought I would but it IS weird. Her writing these days is so reductive - like the only way a woman can experience life is via her sexuality.
I feel reassured, and a bit more safe and hopefully my corner of the public sector will get chucked some more money and sensible decisions. It isn’t making me want to drop my knickers though, because I can tell the difference between being horny and being glad.
It's just such a pointless column. Isn't everyone completely bored hearing about who she fancies and just how *quirky* her tastes are?
She is quite old fashioned in her approach to anything - lots of stereotyping about men and women. If Giles Coren, for instance, wrote about Jess Phillips sensitive, sensual mouth, or his friend masturbating at the thought of Angela Rayner he would quite rightly get hauled over the coals for being a creep (which he is but that's another story).

She’s tweeted about Sinead O’Connor and Sky news read it out.
They pronounced her name at Caitlin not Catlin 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
God does she have to insert herself into everything? I don't remember her paying the slightest bit of attention to Sinead when she wrote for Melody Maker. The British music press were quite snooty about Irish acts then, they saw them as too earnest and not cool enough. Sinead ripping up a picture of he Pope wouldnt be up 🤪's alley at all when she could be drinking cider and black with Ned's Atomic Dustbin. . I'm really sad about Sinead. I met her once, and have connections with her through different people over the years - Ireland is so small. She meant a lot to us. Just fuck off 🤪

I think she’s totally lost it as a writer. She had such a niche back in the day and boy did she hammer it. But where do you go when you’ve transcended the life that got you to where you are. I remember she fessed on twitter aeons ago that she would burgle her cat’s ovaries for anything to write a column. I think she’s now well past that. Got a bit of traction on her horny election twitter post - she’s not there that often these days - and thought I’ll get a column out of that. It’ll be divisive and I can deal with that as times clicks will pay my ginormous salary. Also India Knight writing a piece about safeguarding your teen on first holiday. Em avoid bumping into sex pests like the one you live with.
Eric Joyce is not a sex pest. He’s a paedophile. He bought images of babies being raped.

I know it's already been said, but all this "phwoar I'd give him one", emboldened by a real or imaginary WhatsApp group (and we all know who her pals are), rightly gets people sacked from real jobs. If, as a self-described feminist, she wouldn't want male officers in the Met doing it, why do it herself?

The reason I asked the question in the first place is because she did a retweet of a Twitter post criticising the advantages for fee paying kids and I thought, hang on,was not that you and PP? So it would seem the kids having left King Alfred, having enjoyed the ‘hippest’ education ever, with a major on music and arts, one of her daughter just fell into a solo spot at Glastonbury. Proudly promoted by her mum. I mean get fucking lost. You bought your kids a massive advantage. Your not a socialist you’re an opportunist. Eta you’re

How weird to have lots of children while not working - her dad was supposedly disabled or injured but he fathered eight children during that time!
This really bloody irritates me. Working class people WORK. Feckless, lazy benefits scroungers are not 'working class'. In fact, I've never encountered any benefit scroungers other than CM. Most people don't blithely have 8 children when you're that poor, because you know you can't afford to feed them. Most people have a clear reason why they can't work, and most people are trying their best, not boasting about how little their parents did.

From what I've read, it seems clear that her Dad was scamming the social, because she's never actually clarified what this inability to work stems from, other than chronic laziness. He seems to have been a musician, so assume that's where connections to the music industry/journalism came from (which are never mentioned as being what got her foot through the door, just her own stunning genius).

She never, ever mentions her mother. Assume she was able-bodied too, so another case of laziness.

Also, if there were that many children the council would have been rehoused from a 3 bed to a much bigger house (this was all pre-bedroom tax). The reason they didn't must have been that the parents knew that they weren't really that eligible so didn't want the further scrutiny of why two able-bodied adults decided not to work.

CM has also never explained why her parents decided not to send their children to school. Who does that? And with 8 kids??

Also CM is well-spoken. If she was truly from such an impoverished background, she wouldn't sound like that.

The woman is a fraud.

This is like “50 quid man” for the modern age!
Are you in your 50s? Too old to go to a gig? Why not catch someone from a band you liked in your 20s talk to someone who was supposed to be a music journalist back then! You can sit down! It’s midweek so easy to get a babysitter! It won’t be busy out like at the weekend! You’ll be in bed by 11!

Wow. Really pleased Moran's got a thread. I've never liked her. My reasons:

1. Fake feminist who conflates feminist theory and praxis with wearing Dr Martens - "oooh I'm feisty, me!"
2. Total coward over the whole "letting great big blokes into dresses into vulnerable women's spaces" thing
3. Fake working class - my understanding is she had a very arty farty hippy style upbringing which is NOT working class love
4. Fake socialist - paying lip services to the NHS and other socialised organisations when I have reason to believe she does most important stuff private
5. Exploited her daughter's near fatal mental illness for comments and clicks
6. Preached lockdown while breaking lockdown (admittedly many, many of our elites did this. One rule for me, another for thee)
7. Dreadful, dreadful 'books'. Yes, Ive read portions stood in Waterstones. Twee, 1990s style GIRL POWAAAAHHHHHHH blatherings. Not a single useful, original or intellectual point lies therein. Big old expanse of nothing.
8. Caitlin mistakes gurning and pulling faces for being 'a feminist'. Bit like Scary Spice in 1997. But at least the Spice Girls had CHOONS for days. Caitlin's face pulling is unforgivable.

The whole talking about it thing never struck me as genuine. It's like announcing to your friends that you had a satisfying poo, or a really satisfying nose-picking session. Say it if you want, but no one actually cares, and expecting to be congratulated for it is the behaviour of a toddler.

She’s got a new book out in September. I hope in some of the interviews she does to promote it, at least one of the journos asks her about breaking lockdown

WE WON’T FORGET CAITLIN!
Is it about growing up in a bohemian style council house and then getting a job as a music journo at an improbably young age? I feel like this hasn’t been done yet.

As there has been some ☕ flying around in another thread I’m hoping for it to be spilled here too.
I think that was me on the Jack Monroe thread. My best friend has known Caitlin for a long time. They were friends for a while but fell out and she dislikes her intensely. I honestly can’t say too much because it would dox my friend but she says she is a compulsive liar and fantasist. Her first book was full of anecdotes that were complete bullshit, according to my friend who was actually there at many of the events that were described. There was one lie in particular that really pissed off the friendship group. That’s really all I can say I’m afraid.

No, I just never did it. And I also read Judy Blimey, just was never sure what they were on about. You're right though, she got there first!

I meant Blume but the autocorrect has made me chuckle so I've kept it in.
Judy Blimey :D wrote about masturbation as private thoughts/observations in the voice of a teenage girl. Which mean that any teenage girl reading it would know it is normal. I remember reading it and thinking, I don't do that, but I think I get it. Whatever. It did make me feel better about the dreams I had, which would have me blushing till the middle of the next day.

Moran, otoh, roars about it like a bellowing stag, and I am sure any teenage girls who read/hear her are absolutely mortified. In fact, she might be in the employ of Catholic nuns who want to stamp out "interfering with yourself". It's the mating call of the unfuckable, basically.

Her new column presents the theory that women didn’t know how to be friends with other women until Sex and the City and that the answer to the male loneliness crisis would be a similar show that presents men’s friendships in the same way, thus proving that she’s never talked to another woman or man outside her family since birth.
IMG_2428.jpeg

I mean, I know she was a precocious, teenage music journalist sensation and ran in circles I could only dream of, but way, waaaay before Sex and the City, she could have gone into any pub in the land and seen any number of female friendship groups talking about men and sex and all sorts of other things. Some of them even had handbags and were wearing shoes.
