Love my accent. Scottish, not too broad. Probably more sides to the posh end of the scale in terms of pronunciation when working, but day to day, generic Scottish sounding. Love it.

I'm from Manchester and I made an effort when I was around 13 to smooth out my semi broad manc accent, I really don't like the accent. Now, I sound not posh but not common. My dad was from Birkenhead so had a soft scouse accent, heavily influenced by the sing song Welsh accent as the Wirral accent is, he never lost his accent despite moving away when he was 16 but he had an amazing 'posh' telephone voice, he fooled me more than once when he rang me at work and I didn't know it was him. I can do a great scouse accent because of my dad. My mum grew up near Wigan but doesn't have a strong accent because my grandad didn't think ladies should have strong accents, he always corrected her pronunciation. I find accents are so fascinating, the way they can change so much. There is an area on the border of Salford and Bolton where the accent changes completely from one side of the road to the other.

I am French and have been living in Birmingham for the past 5 years. My ex boyfriend was from the Black Country so I have developed an accent that is a mix of French/Brummie/Black Country. it is very confusing for people who meet me

I'm from the West Country and do have an accent, not a strong one through.
Sometimes when im visiting relatives in London/ Hertfordshire they can pick up on my accent but being in the SW of England no one picks up on it.

My least favourite accent is Brummie - sorry.

Sorry to re quote myself!!! As you see from my post i had (still have a bit but i'm wirking on it ) massive chip on my shoulder about my accent.I let go of a bit of rage couldn't help it and then i came across this article in the gaurdian about students being bullied about their accents and bingo it hit that nerve right on the head because yes thats exactly how i felt as well.Except i maybe was not as articulate as nina in explaining this.
I'm glad that people are finally speaking out on this issue as its a long time coming in my opinion.Well done nina (i'm from close by) in saying what needed saying its elitist bullying nothing more nothing less and it should be taken seriously.Thanks for that and i wish her well why should this be the accepted face of ridicule with all the class bias and misogyny that entails?

I went to uni in my hometown and I toned down my strong Yorkshire/Leeds accent because other students would say they don’t understand me It gave me a bit of a complex and I still tone down my accent today when I’m around people I don’t know.

I LOVE accents and embarrassingly echo them really quickly which when I lived surrounded by N Irish and Scottish people was a struggle. I'm sad that I don't have my local regional accent and just have a very neutral RP accent that sounds very English (people from overseas gush over my accent in my videos) but I would like an interesting accent.

Birmingham born and bred. I dont have a strong accent at all which is weird as my younger siblings have SUCH strong Brummie accents that even I cringe sometimes . When I was in London for uni, no one could place my accent and one girl actually said she cant be friends with people from Birmingham bc the accent goes straight through her but I passed that test lol. She has pointed out that it comes out when I'm on the phone to my parents or anyone from home!

I spent a lot of my childhood up north as well so feel like that diluted my accent quite a bit. A few people have said I have a telephone voice but not sure what that means as I dont have the standard London accent I associate with telephone voices lol
Personally would love a posh London accent, I feel like I'd pass any telephone interview just because of the accent, never mind the skillset I have. I love the Irish accent and the Aussie accent.

I never thought I had much of an accent, even tho my husband and coworkers for example mock me for it all the time! I just can't hear it myself. I did a course a couple of years ago where they videoed us talking and we had to watch it back and I was so shocked! I finally heard what everyone else hears and yep, it's pretty strong!

I'm from Hull and we have our very own unique breed of a Yorkshire accent which is just... something else.
I don't think my accent is very strong, and other people comment that I do have the accent but I don't sound as bad as others.
You really know a Hull accent when they pronounce "Phone" as "Fern" and we are notorious for saying "Nerr" instead of "No"
I got picked on at school for saying Lunch instead of Dinner so people thought I was posh
My partner is from Kent so his accent sticks out like a sore thumb here, his accent is not dissimilar to Essex, but I think it's a bit more mellow.
On the other end of the scale I had a friend who lived just outside of Hull her whole life, both parents were Scottish but I have no idea what to class her accent as at all. It's slightly posh, but there is no Hull or Scottish twang. I wouldn't even call it a Yorkshire accent. It's baffling.

My accent is yorkshire and I love my accent; if I’m around my parents more I’m really yorkshire. However I didn’t realise how northern gobshite loud I am until I am around my husband and his family. They are slightly brummy and it’s frankly disgusting. Hate it

My accent used to be a lot more Manchester when I was younger and that was all I’d known. Then spent time living in the US and no one could understand me, so I ended up speaking in a weird sort of non accent which was definitely not my own for a while just to be understood ordering food etc. I’m back now and don’t live in Manchester anymore but still up north. My accent comes back in full force when I’m with old friends but it has become a lot more toned down through living abroad and my job now as I go all over the country. Do have clients repeating stuff I’ve said and laughing because I do still have a bit of a twang with certain words and don’t pronounce my T’s properly at the end of words

Scouse enough to tell I’m scouse outside of Liverpool, but not scouse enough to know I’m a scouser in Liverpool When I’m away somewhere it’s “ohh, we have a scouser” but in Liverpool people have asked if I’m from here originally I think it’s because I’m quite soft-spoken.
