I used to Nanny for some very rich people (they were
holes but besides the point) who lived in a big old house with awful doors and windows that were really hard to open/shut/lock etc and often shut and got stuck or locked behind you. They had no family around and I had their spare keys which were inside the house. They had 2 under the age of 3 and the mum was heavily pregnant with twins. She went off into London for the day for some shopping and I was in sole charge. She’d asked me to do some stuff in the garden while the kids were asleep so off I went…the back garden door slammed shut behind me and was fully locked. I had no keys on me, no way of getting in and the kids were on the third floor asleep
I had to call the mum and let her know what had happened and ask if there was any spare keys outside or with a neighbour…which was a no, nearly sending her into early labour. She then called her husband who talked me through breaking into the house (they literally had only 1 downstairs window of the approx 280 windows on the bottom floor of their house that didn’t have a security catch lock on it). He wasn’t very clear in his instructions and the signal so was awful as they were right in the country so I couldn’t quite hear what he was saying properly so I ended up breaking not 1…not 2…not 3 but FOUR of their downstairs windows, climbing in (by climbing I mean literally having to shuffle my
large a in to a broken gap that was definitely not made for 6ft 1 large built humans) and literally plummeting face first into their antique bookcase with lots of expensive posho nicknacks on it…that mostly all broke/got chipped

The whole ordeal took about an hour and when I finally got in the kids were absolutely sound asleep and the mum got home literally no longer than 10 minutes later. Let’s just say that job did not last much longer. Thank god.
