I HATE ‘panties’ it’s so cringe-inducing!
I live amongst an American community and I refuse to use this word even in their presence (if the need to talk about such things arises). Recently, when talking to my friend and her daughter and mentioning knickers (cos that’s what they’re called), the latter asked “what’s ‘knickers’?” and my friend said “panties”.
I’m going to try and continue to force Americans in my presence to learn the word ‘knickers’ cos I don’t want to use the p-word.
