I'm 21. I wouldn't say I feel old per se but I do feel worried about losing my childhood and sense of security. Everyone I know expects me to have a job, know what I want to do for the rest of my life, get a boyfriend now, stuff like that, and I find it all quite scary cos errrrm, no I don't. I have this realisation every now and then that OH SHIT I'M AN ADULT NOW. I don't feel it in any sense. LOL. People call me 'lady' in shops now. As in, 'get out of the way of that lady'. THAT makes me feel old.
This past twenty years have flown by. If the next twenty years go any quicker I'll be forty before I know it. WTAF? Lol!!!

I think age is a physical thing. My grandfather is in his eighties and very vulnerable so to me he is old. My nan, his wife, is ten years younger and I wouldn't consider her old. Because she is his carer and is very sprightly and up and at them. I think your own personal view of age and whether you feel old is psychological though. Like. I am disabled and probably a bit vulnerable, and I miss out on all the stupid little milestones other people my age have (going out, drinking, dating... just hasn't happened for me haha!) so I feel a bit.. behind, and younger?

(I just think all these age related milestones are stupid though.)

Totally agree! Kids nowadays will also never know the pleasure of listening to the radio for hours just to hear that one song, recording it on tape and so on! I'm also glad I got to experience dating before online dating took over. Or having no mobile and the guy I was dating having to ring my parents landline to speak to me. I could go on and on

Yes, definitely! When I start thinking about it I am really nostalgic and happy I grew up around then. 😁

I was at a family party a few years back and I Got A Woman by Ray Charles came on, and the 14 year old I was chatting to (I’m 28) didn’t recognise that Gold Digger by Kanye West samples it. She didnt even know the Kanye song! I definitely felt old then!

I’m 31, and while I don’t feel old in my mind (still feel like I’m in my early 20’s and still can’t believe I have two children and am married now), I feel old in my body. I’ve worked in care homes since my late teens and I’m definitely feeling the strain. When I moan and groan trying to get up, that’s when I feel old. Or when I look in the mirror after a night shift. 😂 🙈

In my 30s, when I notice younger people feeling nostalgic over things like High School Musical, Hannah Montana and Bratz Dolls.

When I keep catching myself telling my teenage son "Back in my day"...

And when my lads call me a Karen! I'm 36 ffs!

I'm 40. A couple of years ago, this very attractive bloke was on TV, and for some reason they had his birth year up. I remember thinking 'that can't be right?' and literally having to count out how many years ago it was 😂 Then it dawned on me I'm an old git who lost track of time.

Also, trying to explain that there was once a pre-internet/smartphone etc time to my 10yr old. Anything like that makes me feel as old as my grandma!

I’m in my late twenties, but felt very old when the music videos I grew up with were shown on MTV Classic last year  I also felt very old at work when I found out some of my colleagues were in their teens.

When my parents died. They have both died during my 30s. I felt a change after that.

I've mentioned on tattle before that people seem to think I look younger than my age and I feel much older than they think I look .
Obviously the 'you are as old as you feel ' only applies to young at heart geriatrics🧓
Yes , I am old enough to have a teenager.

Sometimes, it surprises me how long ago thinks were that I think of as recently, like new songs that came out 20 years ago .
Same, I still think Busted, Girls Aloud etc are current not to mention TV shows like Footballers Wives. I rewatched FW the other week and it was only when I saw their chunky tellies, Jane Norman hanky tops and Nokia phones it hit me 😂

Somehow I blinked and I'm now actually 49, a mum and step-mum to 4 kids and a Nanna of 2 and menopausal to boot (it's not old Lauren1994 trust me) but I still spent last Saturday in bed with a raging hangover like I did 30 years ago

I am 25, and I felt old the other day when several people have asked me if I have my own kids. Heck no!
And that’s with me having a 4 (nearly 5) year old sister and when we are out I get comments like “Well, you started early!”

Seeing pop stars who would have been my contemporaries, looking their age in their 50s or 60s. Also my mum is in a care home with dementia and she was only 23 when she had me. Decades fly by.

I'm currently in my late 20s but hitting 27 was when I really started feeling it, because suddenly I was much closer to 30 than 20. I think 30 isn't actually old at all in itself but society's expectations for your achievements and behavior change A LOT as you are close to 30. Suddenly all the things that people used to talk about with amusement or even envy ("They can afford to take a year or two off and do nothing because they're just figuring things out/being a young person/being a free spirit") are suddenly looked as being irresponsible or childish. As a woman, the pressure to find someone permanently so I can procreate in the next few years has also increased significantly both directly (friends and family asking) and indirectly (seeing people around you get married). It's also more frowned upon to move around (you're no longer hip for gathering international experience) but people really respect things like taking on a mortgage and settling down in one place.

Basically there are so many babies on this thread, try being over fifty, then you'll realise that 30etc is nothing.

To be honest it doesn't bother me, but I do worry about my wife dying before me. As I don't have many close relatives and any kids, it is a concern.
The thing is, getting older is not guaranteed. Life is a journey, I think the o.p meant older as being at a different stage of adulthood

Late 30s and don't feel "old"- it is surprising to me how many people feel old so young. You couldn't pay me to go back to my 20s, I much prefer the 30s, so maybe that helps
Tell me your secrets! I’m starting to feel so old in my late 30’s 😫 I’ve become like a little old lady who reminisces about the good old days’ of the 80’s and 90’s. Oddly growing up and even in my 20’s I really believed I would never age, I just didn’t believe it would happen, I reasoned that I looked in the mirror every day and nothing changed and as long as I looked in a mirror every day I would never get wrinkles. It made total sense to me. I was wrong!
