What Makes You Feel Old? #2

I had this other day with an estate agent! Telephone conversation about change of fees. Husband sends email though with the usual 'just to confirm our recent telephone conversation blah blah ' . No response from estate agent. Husband asks estate agent (via WhatsApp because that seems to be the way the estate agent likes to communicate) and he literally just sends back an email with 'confirmed'

Honestly, I feel ancient sometimes because I expect correct spelling and grammar too. Seems I am only going to be disappointed.

DJ on the radio just said that Church of the Poison Mind was released 43 years ago. How on earth is that possible?

Honestly, it feels like yesterday when I was buying a ra ra skirt in Top Shop to go with my Frankie Says Relax t shirt (with sleeves rolled up, natch).

The worst thing about the new smoking legislation coming in is realising that people born in 2008 are 18 years old

One of my patients was moaning about her daughter, who insists that she must have an iPhone and not a Samsung. Patient said, "The kids today don't know they're born, I only had an old slide phone when I was her age."
I laughed and said, "When I was her age, we had two tin cans and a piece of string haha". Patient also laughed and said, "Yeah, you had to write letters to talk to your mates!"
I'm not that fucking old, the cheeky mare. We did have phones, they just weren't very mobile!

We went to see a band recently and I spent the majority of the gig thinking about the hotel breakfast the next morning .

I've started getting random, age related, aches and pains. Like at the moment my foot hurts. I've not done anything specifically to cause it to hurt. But it does.

I could not thread a needle, even with my glasses on, if my life depended on it.

I make a noise sitting down and standing up.

The threading a needle is virtually impossible! Also getting together with same age friends and realising we’re all getting hammer toe

I was out on Saturday night with friends. Nothing wild, dinner and a few drinks. That’s all I could think of was how much I couldn’t wait to get home and put on my pj’s. Then yesterday I felt wiped out. I think I’ve just notched up a new level of oldness for myself

An assistant in the hairdressers earlier describing something as ‘mid’. I had to ask what it meant

As if being ancient now isn't bad enough, this happened about 25 yrs ago.

I'd bought a nice dress, but it was a bit floaty & also a wee bit see-through. I know, I thought to myself, I'll just buy an underskirt. Problem solved. The conversation with a 20-something yr-old in a quite large department store went something like this:

'Hi, whereabouts are your underskirts, please?
'Sorry, what?'
'Underskirts?'
<blank stare>
'Erm ... slips? Half slips, Waist slips?'
<another blank stare>
'Oh, erm ... petticoats?'
'What's that?'
'Doesn't matter', never mind.'

Found them in M&S.

I've often wondered if she'd ever encountered the words slips/underskirts/petticoats much ever since. Surely everyone knows what a petticoat is, even in these days? No?
