This is more blatant than petty but next door neighbour wouldn’t let us put a ladder on his side of the fence to get up to change the bulbs in our security lights. He wanted to see our public liability insurance!! He’s just an old weirdo fool. It would benefit him too as they light up the side access between both our houses.
So when I noticed he had washing hanging out yesterday I lit the BBQ and made some very well done kebabs for tea.
I think we just became friends 🫶

That is fantastic! Reminds me of my next door neighbour who gets his wife to wear a hi viz, do hand signals to stop the traffic whilst he reverses off the drive! He also wears ear defenders to mow their 6ft x 10ft lawn. They walk amongst us

The really simple solution to that is to reverse onto the drive but he clearly loves the tiny little bit of power it gives him doing all the above.

We generally have The Chase on in the background while we eat our evening meal.
I intensely dislike Jenny The Vixen, so I always forward her intro when Bradley does the 'could it be' part.

I don't like the new guy

Colleague at work is young (early 20s) been with us less than 2 years but is convinced she's better than us all, has no respect and is just generally really rude. So I took her favourite teaspoon home. I dont use it, but smile every time I open the cutlery drawer :)
Youngster has been fired so the teaspoon is back in the work cutlery drawer 😇

Our neighbours have caused a few problems recently with some work we've had done at the house. We've had a parcel of theirs delivered to us today. I've put it in their garden for them to save the weirdness of them having to get it now they clearly don't like us. Unfortunately it's accidentally been left under a heavily dripping gutter.

Years ago I worked for someone who ran their business out of a home office while they were establishing themselves. I didn't have a proper desk, often just sitting inside the spare office with a laptop if his wife wasn't working as well. If she was, I would have to sit inside the house at the dining table. I had to use their kitchen for lunches and there was a small wash closet in the laundry, I didn't love being in their personal space so much but it was a flexible job that I was good at.

Anyway, one day the wife comes out to me and says that she's noticed I boil the kettle a lot (I drink about 5 or 6 cups of green tea a day) and could I only fill the kettle with what I needed because I was racking up their electricity bill. I was so fuming, because she was a real tight a, when they lived in this big beautiful home and even had a pool installed while I was working for them (they kept saying they were holding off on renting an office until the business was making enough 🙄 yet could afford a pool). So every time I made myself a cup of tea, I made sure the kettle was full to the brim before boiling it. Still the pettiest thing I've ever done haha

This is the sort of pettiness I can get behind

Did you then pour it away?

This reminds me of stories my dad has told me (he's a builder ) of how tight some customers are with things like not letting him charge his tools, moaning he's using 'too much' electricity / water etc, never offering a cup of tea. I don't get it! When I have any tradesmen / women in I'm constantly offering tea / coffee / biscuits etc if I'm there, if not I just say help yourself - it's common decency! I would never be there monitoring how much water they put in the kettle or how many times they boil it 😂

Glad you were petty back!

So many people are like this. On a couple of other forums I use there's often threads asking stuff like can they ask the agency for a different cleaner because the one they sent had a glass of water or wore earphones while she worked. I don't get it if someone was working in my home I'd want them to be comfortable.

You always look after the trades. When we had our extension I was happy to dole out drinks and sweet treats. When it was done the garden was a bit of a mess and the builder said what's your plan? and I said I'll pay to have it landscaped eventually. He stopped an extra half day and re laid my path/made some little steps for free 💕.

I had a tiler doing work in my kitchen some years ago, and offered tea/ coffee, told him to help himself. He was going to eat lunch in his van, but I said eat in the kitchen. Why not. He told me that someone who asked him for a quote, told him snootily, in no uncertain terms that he wouldn't be getting drinks in her house. He didn't take the job.

I grew up in a house where my dad would bring waifs and strays (slight exaggeration) home and my mother would feed them. Anyone doing work around the place, was given a meal, never mind a mere cup of tea. 😁

Common decency, exactly. Jeepers, it's nothing, in the great scheme of things.

I don't know why but I find it incredibly awkward offering people tea and coffee (people coming to do work at the house). I like to hide away and pretend I don't exist. My husband hates it and will try to be around for when they arrive so he can make them drinks then tell them to help themselves. As you can imagine, the 9 months the incompetent builders took to build our extension was hell on earth. I had to push myself out of my comfort zone every day to offer drinks 😅
In the end I just left the house for the entire day when I was off work and told them to help themselves to drink and snacks. Cost me a bloody fortune, mainly due to the soft plays and lunches out.

When we had our building works done I had two small children and I said I won't remember to offer you drinks. Instead I plugged the builders in a mini fridge and a kettle. Stocked it with milk, tea, coffee and biscuits and said you can help yourself to however much and whatever you want. I gave them the key to access the downstairs toilet and said we'd use upstairs so we're out of the way. It was summer so they asked if they could keep their sandwiches in our fridge too. I said no need to ask but they said you wouldn't believe what people say they can't do, including using the toilet, touching their kettle or even go inside the house.
The genuinely seemed surprised at being given access to basic facilities.
I think the pettiness on this thread is probably directed at people who also refuse builders cups of tea!

Yep, 100%. I always give tea, coffee, biscuits etc and when our garden was done, I made them bacon rolls on their last day and beers. A couple of years ago, they had to close our road for utilities right outside our house and I made the workmen tea and got them some cakes. They dropped my kerb for me when they finished the filling in. 😀
