What do you do for a living?

Former theologian trying to gtfo of academia and retrain (for what feels like the millionth time!) in therapeutic massage. Obviously that's not possible at the moment, so I'm doing academic proofreading.

Edit - great idea for a thread! I'm always so nosey about this kind of thing!

Studying full-time for a PhD in medical sociology researching young people’s experience of juvenile arthritis. Hoping to go down the academia route when I graduate in 2 years to be a lecturer 🙂

Financial admin...I’ll be honest though I’ve not actually worked for quite a long time due to severe mental health issues and things that have been going on in my life. I feel such a deep sense of shame and unworthiness, it really effects my self esteem and I feel so...pointless. I hate when anyone asks me what I do, the dentist asked me the other day and I burst into tears 😩 I want to return to work but have had a lot of really hard knocks and think it’s going to be really difficult to get my confidence back.

I’ve been in this position before - an admin job in the NHS gave me a mental breakdown. I avoided going places because I hate the small talk that always seems to revolve around what you do for living. Hope you feel better and strong soon. A job isn’t worth making your mental health worse x

I'm an IT Consultant, and have been for about 2 or 3 years now.

However, I don't intend to be an IT grunt for the rest of my days. Am hoping that when I return to South Africa next year I would like to work in a Nature Reserve, either as a guide, administrator or game ranger.

Nothing right now, as my first babies (twin girls) are due in February, and we are walking on eggshells as we waited a long time.
I'm a vascular surgeon, when I'm not too gigantic to get near an operating table.

Before I had my family I was a geophysicist for an oil company but later I retrained and I’m now a palliative care nurse in a hospice.
