Do it! The best reviewers concentrate on things like emotion, character building etc. I hate ones that just use reviews to show off how well read they are "X's use of pigeons is reminiscent of
Lacan's early musings into the symbolic order'. Blah blah blah. I'd love to read reviews from the heart. That way, I know if I'll like the book or not!
My MA was in literary linguistics so, I'm basically so bored and done with trying to sound smart! 😂 Maybe I'll write a few and link them here haha

Yes art seems to run in my family! My grandad, my mum, auntie and cousins are all artistic and my son loves painting. I framed one of his paintings he did at school and it hangs in my kitchen with some of mine and some I’ve bought :)
I paint on canvas and paper, I love a big canvas :)
Yes I keep most of them though have sold a few through Instagram or given to family and friends. I get scared to sell them in case people don’t like them 😂 and I’ve no idea how to price, plus I don’t really have time to do all the extra stuff like packaging and posting at the minute! One day I hope to sell more though!

Great idea for a thread!

I feel mindless browsing of the internet has taken space that was usually dedicated to hobbies. I don't mean here (😂), just those pointless, endless scrolls that end up with you looking up and saying, where the hell did the last 10/30/120 minutes go 😓

I agree, I mindlessly scroll and realise I’ve wasted hours doing nothing!

I used to be in a rowing and drag boat club when I lived in the UK. I like all watersports actually. I now live in Dubai and haven't picked it up again since but have been on a lot of jetskis.

I now like spinning, swimming, walking & shopping (if that counts).

Loved Rdr2 as well! Fantastic game, although I found online boring after completing the story... are you playing anything good lately?

Aside from video games, I love to read and did have a book Instagram account for reviews but gave up posting in Julyish when I realised I was spending more time stressing out about how my grid looked/taking photos/ likes & engagement than actually reading!

I started surfing last year which I absolutely love everything about, I’m lucky to live within walking distance of the sea but have only been twice since lockdown.
My friend lent me The Last of us 2 so I’m currently playing that, liking it so far, not sure if it’s better than the first one though. Some bits have made me jump out of my skin, other bits I’ve found slightly frustrating. It’s one of those games where you can’t rush through areas and you need to take your time. Graphics are amazing.

Before that I played Watchdogs and Watchdogs 2. Both really fun games, the first one has a darker story whereas the second is a bit more lighthearted. They are not as intricate as RDR2(which is basically the king of games to me right now😂) but I quite enjoy games that involve stealth and the gadgets are fun, especially in the second one. I’d love a video game discussion thread, not sure how active it would be though?

My hobbies are cycling (on and off road I like a bit of mountain biking), kickboxing, yoga and here and there ceramics lol. But I’ve always been quite sporty so need those as an outlet. They are hard to start though as with any new group sport but I encourage anyone who has the means to do so to try something new (even if you initially hate it!!)

does anyone else tend to get a bit depressed when they don't have time for their hobbies?
We have been doing a lot of home improvements lately and have finally finished. But it has of course meant my cross stitch and crocheting have been packed away and of course not had time to do them.
This weekend is my first Sunday off work in a long time and the first weekend DH won't be doing DIY chores so we are going to flump on the sofa, him on his PS4 and me with my cross stitch, chilled wine and beers and relax!
Can't wait to be re-united with my hobbies 😁

Knitting and crocheting. I am really bad as I have a few projects going at the moment so shouldn't start anymore. I used to cross stitch too. Xxx

I write a lot of fiction, I love it and it's my biggest hobby/relaxant. I also love to bake. My goal this year is to make macarons. Pre-COVID I was an avid swimmer too (well I say avid swimmer, I sort of splashed around like a headless dog with a pool noodle) but my local pool closed! Gutted. I do really want to get into sewing as well, although think it'll be tricky with my cerebral palsy!

I haven't managed to find the Disney cross stitch magazine, where did you find yours?
Mine was in wh smith and i had walked past it a dozen times. In my wh smith they have a random shelf unit next to the till. I asked the store assistant if she had seen it in stock and she pointed them out to me.....I was stood right next to them 😅

That's wonderful. I really enjoy cross stitch tapestry too. Pictures on 18 count Aida and Xmas cards on 22 count Aida. My friend used to sell them for me in her antiques shop. Had you considered selling your pictures?

I also enjoy dining out, meeting friends and cooking.
No-I only do it as a hobby-I love watching people’s faces light up when I give it to them
the sheer amount of time it takes to make them means I wouldn’t get much money back
id love to do a tapestry-is it much different to cross stitch?

Gosh, all that fitted in and around dealing with Tracey and Peter's latest drama- I do admire you 😆
:love::ROFLMAO:

Is there a Corrie thread?!

Honestly, though, I definitely want to get more green fingered. We just rent at the moment but are trying to make it as green as possible. Which is currently involving battling triffid-esque weeds 😳
I rent too and I'm getting into houseplants. I'm kind of anxious about how well I'm caring for them. The more I learn, the worse it gets.😓🌱

Is anyone learning any languages? I know @YorkshireFox mentioned learning German. I moved a lot growing up, so I'm lucky enough to have picked up a few languages to varying degrees, but my Duolingo is a carcrash. There's 5 languages on there and all at level 1 :ROFLMAO: I'm not sure it's the best way to go about it!

I took up ice skating as an adult and loved it.
I do some things for fitness like yoga and running. I miss going to gigs.
I'd love to learn to dance, when this is all over.
I am trying to learn Italian and French which I studied at school but I find Duolingo frustrating - any good language app recommendations?

I used to love adult colouring books. Pop a podcast or rom-com on in the background and colour away. Need to get back into it.

Other than that, football. God I miss going to matches so much :(

I used to like going to exercise classes and can't really get into you tube ones mainly because I don't have to make an effort to get there.
I do cross stitching and like others have done so many I don't know what to do with them now. I did the same with jewellery, I have necklaces and bracelets everywhere plus loads of beads and findings.
My latest is colouring books, got caught up in pandemic in Spain and could not get back for weeks so looked for something cheap to fill the time in and came upon some great books and it ended up not being cheap when pencils can cost upto 20 pounds a tin and I can't resist some new colours.

Bit OT so sorry but quite a few of you have mentioned yoga. I really want to like it and get into it to increase my flexibility and hip strength which is currently awful. I'm also quite a stressy person and it's been recommended to me plus I know people who swear by it.

However every time I try it I end up feeling more frustrated than I started. I either find it boring and too slow or hippy dippy, but then if I try a faster style like power yoga I struggle to keep up. It's like I'm not quite a beginner but not good enough yet to be intermediate. I also finish feeling like I've strained my neck and shoulders even more.

Any tips?
Try yoga with Adrienne, the "Deep Stretch" one on youtube. It's not fast paced (might be a little on the slow side) but really targets flexibility and there is a bit in there for increasing hip strength... She has some faster ones too and offers food tips on alignment so you shouldn't strain anything. Good luck x

Most of my hobbies include other people, so it's been difficult since covid. I haven't seen anybody in person except immediate family, because we're stricter than most with ensuring we don't unnecessarily risk illness. We work/study from home, and get shopping delivered. Our child is still young enough not to be in school, so I feel lucky in that regard that we don't have to send Child to school with our fingers crossed.

I used to like the vibe and culture of going out for a meal. My husband and I would go out at least once a week and I'd also go out with different friends at least once a week. I'm more of a one-on-one or two-on-one person, I don't like big group hang outs, so I would individually see my friends rather than get everyone together. Hubby and I are foodies, but we've adapted well and started making (well he, because I can't cook) the restaurant meals we used to have, at home. He's a born chef! We cook dishes from different cultures, Asian, African, and the Americas.

We also loved traveling! Not to resorts, more of the shoe-string budget type of traveling and imersing ourselves into another culture (I know, how millennial of me!) We've been trying to visit a different country each year. This year we went to our living room! (Sorry. Lol).

Another hobby I liked was going to the gym. Exercising at home is just not the same vibe. We still go hiking, but I miss the gym.

I really like aisle-by-aisle shopping too. I know I can still do it, but it's not worth the risk to me. Haven't shopped in person since March.

I like sports, playing and watching. My favorites are swimming, tennis, basketball, and anything else that involves a high heart rate (so not golf 😝).

My circumstantial hobbies right now are baking and photographing elaborate cakes (freestyle, just winging the designs) and tattle. I can't cook, but I can bake. So far so good with the cakes, they've all worked out and not to toot your my own horn but I'm really proud I can do it! I didn't know I could. As for tattle, I hate it when a thread I'm watching dies. It's half my life right now 😂

That's so cool!

Last week I wrote a list of recommendations for a friend who has barely read anything at all and I really, really enjoyed writing about why I was recommending particular titles, even if a book wasn't really one I'd particularly enjoyed. I'm too much of a wimp to actually publish any reviews online I reckon!
Do it! The best reviewers concentrate on things like emotion, character building etc. I hate ones that just use reviews to show off how well read they are "X's use of pigeons is reminiscent of
