Then you've got the Musical Theatre Appreciation Society on Facebook and oh my gosh. There was the most benign critique of Oliver! ever but the poster was instantly set upon for being mean and hurtful to the cast. All they really said was Nancy belts too much and that Bill Sykes looks dfferent to how he usually does, that was it.
Dude's got a point; I was kind of disappointed in AB when I saw it; for me she didn't have the maternal tendencies or the right mix of 'feisty yet vulnerable', and she did belt a bit too much (plus her Scouse accent slipped through several times, which was pretty jarring). But you know, just my opinion, I'm sure she's lots of people's quintessential Nancy.

Sonia Swaby is my favourite Nancy. I didn't get to see her live but she's incredible in the Hey, Mr. Producer performance she did. I feel like she really elevates it from the park and bark that kind of role can get people falling into. I wish she'd been more of a star in general.

I so detest online theatre fandom.

You've got theatreboard where they will moderate you to oblivion and you can't talk about anything even if cast/creatives have put it on their own socials, and also the self appointed forum police who have decided when you simply can't not like a show, like that weirdo ceebee in the Starlight thread...

The reaction was ridiculous, absurd. People need to understand that you cannot turn the internet into your own personal hugbox or play nanny to a bunch of strangers who, if they can't stop googling themselves, need to take responsibility for their own well being. Be kind? Yes. I would not want to see anyone torn into or humiliated when they are a working professional doing their best... but I don't really ever see that kind of critique anymore so I don't know why these melts freak out just because person A disliked something person B enjoyed. Also, this is the same place where I've witnessed in real time them bully an austistic poster because as much as they fawn over William Fairchild (in a way I find quite patronizing, honestly), they will happy make fun of others.

You can't really have actual, real discussions about the arts anymore. It's always "but people worked hard on this" or "be kinnnnnd" and it's a shame.
I stopped paying attention to MTAS when the creator of the page described themselves as an extremely influential and well known social media guru, then let some very subtle shade out.

No thanks.

I haven't heard of a single member of the now fully announced Beetlejuice cast, except for David Hunter. And I include David Fynn in that although I see he has quite a good portfolio, he's just passed me personally by.

Not that I'm saying that's a bad thing, I've seen and enjoyed many many shows where a lot of the cast are unknown names or fresh from drama school and they've been great.

Just surprised that I thought Beetlejuice had a relatively big budget, so I thought they would have had the odd known name in it to get the public appeal/interest up.
Alasdair Harvey has been on the west end for 30 years, he’s been the phantom, done Les Mis, the little big things, Follies, currently in stage in In The Press as Andrew Neil, and was the original Beast in Beauty & The Beast when it came to the west end.

He was also brilliant in Come From Away as Nick!

Not West End (yet) but has anyone else been to see The Greatest Showman in Bristol? Was lucky to see it last night and they have done an excellent job with bringing the show to the stage.

Lucky! How was it early on? We had one show stop during the second act (not gonna lie the only time I have ever experienced a showstop is in Bristol as it happened during Hamilton as well).

i had Katie Tonkinson’s Anne Wheeler debut and if it wasn’t for the 20 min delay to the show you wouldn’t have known. she hadn’t done a full dress run so was doing all the stunt rehearsals up until the very last second
but the show was near on perfect, i know they’ve had a few injuries because of how much is going on so they probably need a few more swings for london

Yeah, our show stop was during the 2nd act during the new song with Barnum/Lind. Not 100% sure what happened but they were back on again within 10 minutes or so.

I am surprised, with the amount of stunts, there aren't more swings/alternates and more injuries (like starlight express is notorious for). But we had Lorna Courtney on for Anne Wheeler and she was absolutely seamless with her transitions for her Stunts. As were all the cast so a lot of effort seems to have gone into the circus stunts etc and then rehearsals to get the show up to where it is.

Just a shame Bristol hippodrome seems to have so many technical issues to cause show stops. I've never been to any other theatre which has had a similar level of issue.

I haven't even seen the movie but this production looks so beautiful. I am envious of anyone getting to see it already, I wish I was there!

Oh this would wind me up. It's not like she decided to run it on a whim, they could have had no show scheduled for yesterday to accommodate her.

Her behaviour is frequently rude and diva-ish and I think she's lucky she's a good singer because she would rightly be consigned to the dustbin otherwise.

Grapevine of theatre crew says she’s been an absolute nightmare for the whole tech period and run of Dracula. I absolutely wouldn’t be surprised if she just decided to not perform yesterday so she was rested ahead of the marathon. She needs knocking down a peg, she’s not that good that she can treat audiences who pay a fortune to see her like tit

Cynthia is exceptionally talented imho but sadly also arrogant to the core.

It's sad, she really has so much going for her but the ego ruins it.

I am currently reading Dracula but I struggle to see how it can be performed as a one woman show. I think I would be so bored watching a whole one person show doing multiple characters. It would annoy me too, I think.

She may be talented, but she needs to put the ego away. Having a look at tickets, if I decided to pay £185 for one of the best seats (plus train and hotel costs, and London isn't exactly cheap for either of those things) I'm not going to be happy if the show is cancelled because she decided to take a day off.

There are hundreds of exceptionally talented performers performing in the West End every day, she specifically is pulling in an audience because of her name. Her name and talent doesn't really excuse her for being able to just do what she wants.

They use a lot of tech, screens etc... not every character is performed live by her. I went to see it early in the run and it was incredible
