He was everywhere at one point, I was a teen at the time so was the target audience for Adam Rickett. Then he suddenly disappeared like he was never there!I saw the same production! He was woefully miscast
Yes I agree with Dear Evan Hansen, I really didn't like it! The storyline is obviously depressing given the theme but I don't think I (as a 40 odd year old woman) am the target audience. When I went to see it the rest of the audience were mostly younger people who seemed to be enjoying it.Interesting question somewhere online today asking what musical, despite the score, has the most awful story.
Dear Evan Hansen, Carousel and Rent was mentioned multiple times.
love your thoughts ?
There’s a particularly delightful piece in one of Stewart Lee’s books where he describes WWRY as “the worst musical I have ever seen” which “can only have been conceived in a moment of extreme cynicism”We Will Rock You has cool songs and the worst story/script known to man.
Went to see Aspects of Love at Hope Mill as was an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical I hadn't seen and love changes everything was everywhere when it was released but it has not aged wellaspects of love has it all, age gap, affair, incest
I will die on the hill that “we’re putting on a concert!” isn’t a plot and Six is no more musical theatre than when I saw a reformed 911 play a throw-back gig at my local park. Fun music, cool moves (they still back flip!) and we all understand the background.Carousel is a cluster of a musical. “He beats me but I love him”
Dear Evan Hansen I cannot get on side with.
I love the music from Six but I hate the premise. They made Anne Boleyn look stupid when we know she likely wasn’t. And the fact little girls come out of that show wanting to be like “the pink one” picks me out so bad.
I have an irrational hatred of Heathers, but the songs are cool for the most part.
Awful as in rubbish writing (WWRY then, but the music saved it) or because the story covers grim and depressing themes? If the latter then Next To Normal takes the cake, they had about four different trigger warnings listed on posters around the theatre when I saw that! Utterly brilliant show though in spite of the themes!Interesting question somewhere online today asking what musical, despite the score, has the most awful story.

I mean West Side Story is a modern adaptation of Romeo & Juliet so your gonna have to blame Shakespeare for that oneAwful as in rubbish writing (WWRY then, but the music saved it) or because the story covers grim and depressing themes? Waitress advertising will tell you it's about a cute cake shop but in reality it is about someone trying to escape from an abusive relationship.
Let's be honest West Side Story is a romance sitting on top of gang warfare and numerous stabbings. And speaking of Carousel, well Oklahoma is really dark if the Judd Fry character is done right and properly sinister. Hell even Seven Brides for Seven Brothers they kidnap the women. Should I even mention Showboat?
