Weird Or Oddly 'Normal' Things People Do (nothing dodgy)

I can't set the morning alarm for anything on the hour or half hour. It's something like 7.34am or 7.17am.
I don't know why.

When you have a box of items (spoons, cups and saucers) each fitted in a designated position and one is missing. I have to fill in the slot or throw the box away as I can't bear the empty place. It really upsets me.

I feel like this is something that's going to stick in my mind and I'll end up doing it myself!

We have our music cds (yep, that old!) arranged alphabetically on the shelves.
Does anyone else who still has cds or vinyl do this... ?

Good point about everyone grieving differently, therefore a 'standard' funeral is not going to suit every bereaved person.
A relative of mine organised what's called a 'direct cremation' when her partner died - no funeral, no wake, just a time we could all think of the person when we knew the cremation was taking place. It's the only time I've heard of that arrangement but I keep seeing adverts for direct cremation on the tv so it must be gaining popularity, especially as it's bound to be considerably cheaper.

I have had to recently look into funeral arrangements and a direct funeral is roughly £1500 making it 1-2k cheaper than the standard.
I would definitely consider this for myself.

Same. I had mine from Tesco. It lasted 6 years and I only left it behind, because I was moving. It was still working properly . I also clean my kettle out every month or so with lemon juice to remove hard water build up.

Owl you could consider buying a stove top kettle instead if you want something lasting more than 2 years. My grandmother's lasted over 25 years.

I have one of these bed issues too. The sheet has to be perfectly on or I won't sit there. Drives the husband mad he's started doing it so I don't complain

I only do it alphabetically with musicians and bands and then whatever CDs I have from said artists I organise them from oldest to latest, unless it's like a booklet CD or something I would separate them from standard jewel cases... not that I ever find the time to listen to anything as of recently but I still collect them as a novelty

My husband unplugs the kitchen appliances at night because he doesn’t “trust” them not to explode or catch fire lmao.

Reminds me of a friend whose parents also used to manically unplug everything at night because they too didn't 'trust' them not to set on fire or something. My mate regularly had to go round to reset their video recorder as they'd knacked the planned recordings!

I was listened to a radio programme on kettle electricity usage. They had someone note that a kettle will continue to boil maybe 10-20 seconds before the thermostat clicks in, wasting £s. Its become a sad habit that i listen to it begin to boil and click it off. Who knows if its saved me any money!

I wouldn't be surprised if it has! I read that kettles, tumble driers and hairdryers are some of the biggest electricity guzzlers, so any time they aren't boiling/heating away is bound to save you a few ££s through the year.

I count when I do things. So for example if I pour milk in coffee I’ll count to three as I pour. Its always 3, 5 or 7 depending on what it is. I’ve always done it and I’ve no idea why …

This is fascinating Prozacprinces. I'm with you on the counting thing. I like the number 5 and without intending to sometimes find myself counting to 5, not necessarily when doing things like you. I always prefer odd years to even years too for some bizarre reason! x

No matter how light it is , my husband puts the ceiling light on when he goes in a room .

I love this! He sounds like me with the boiling the full kettle thing I used to do... the cost of living crisis soon put paid to that 'cos boiling full kettles without needing to is so expensive. Lights not so much but still, fecking switch it off man!

I close my eyes when I brush my teeth.

When I read this I had to think hard what I do.... but I definitely don't close my eyes. I look occasionally in a little mirror at the sink to check how I'm brushing. 🪥

I cannot get into bed if the duvet isn't perfect in each corner and the seams perfectly straight. Don't know why but it freaks me out if it's off! I drive my husband mad

I'm hoping for longer-lasting kettles now I'm not boiling them full and to death every single day!

In my work kitchen I line my knives up in order of size on the knife rack. The syrups for coffee have to be in alphabetical order and the storeroom for the bar is alphabetical too.

To me it makes perfect sense, shame my staff don’t think the same way

Good idea about cleaning out with lemon juice to remove the limescale. I agree ridiculous about our previous short-lived kettles but it must have been to do with the ridiculous triple/full boiling I used to do!
