Feels like you can't escape the buzz of weight training recently! Instagram can feel a bit overwhelming, so would love any recommendations for a good YouTuber for a total beginner.

I do pilates classes, but my upper back/ arms are still very weak and I'm sick of it tbh! Would love to hear about anyone elses journey with strengthening/weights and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Oh I love a good chat about weights! I started at group PT last year and it’s become my favourite thing. Same as you I’ve always done yoga, Pilates, barre etc. and thought I was pretty strong. Spoiler alert, I was not 😂 I mean I’m not exactly Wonder Woman now but being able to lift heavy and feel strong is so empowering.

I’m afraid I can’t help on the YT front, but if you can afford it try to get at least a few sessions in with a PT, because there is so much to learn starting out and if you can nail your form early on it’ll be a huge help. I wish you all the best - it’s addictive in the best way!

Thanks for the response! My big expense is my pilates classes ATM 😖, but have seen quite a few beginners dumbbell stuff on YouTube which I'll give a try first! (Currently using 1 kg dumbbells because I am literally starting from square one!) 😬 x

also can’t help on the YT front but did do an alexia clark homework thing a few years back. she does great videos (or atleast did) on breaking down exercises.
if you can find any group classes i’d do those. getting good technique is paramount. but even searching the exercise on yt you will get some info. like squats/shoulder press. there will be lots of videos showing proper set up.

jack hallows and wilson coaching uk on insta have some good simple videos too.

I’d give Alice Liveing or Lucy Mountain a try - more on Instagram than YouTube, but both have apps as well and focus a lot on form and providing accessible workouts for beginners.
