Started circa 1983 with a c64 with Prestel, then an amiga 1200 then pc gaming solely since approx 2000. Never really been a console gamer for practical reasons though I have a ps4 and wii to play with friends. The level of graphical tweakability (technical term there) in PC gaming has always appealed to me. Even this is being dumbed down last few years though.
You can either feebly congratulate yourself you've got the best "god rays" on "insane" settings or feel inadequate as you can only run Frogger in safe mode on medium setting with no AA on your creaking gfx card. I've been in both positions over the years. I've found the safest route with PC upgrades is to keep kit in the high end of the scale but not bleeding edge. Stuff devalues too quickly and the gains get negligible when you're pushing hard.
I'm entirely shallow and superficial so these shiny things appeal to me.
I could never do console gaming as I've always been an FPS player predominately. There is simply no way a controller can compete with mouse look for aim IMO. These days I play with a controller (wireless logitech), left stick mapped for WASD in my left hand and a 12 button configurable mouse (Razer Naga Trinity) in my right. Covers all bases thus far.
Online gaming scares me for some reason. I don't want to play with other people thanks. Tried it but couldn't seem to relax. I must simply be too self concious for that type of thing.
I also resent the way that online game devs always say "make your own adventure!" Thus disposing of the need for a meaningful SP campaign. This is an extremely cheap trick that puts the onus on the player and not the dev. It is nearly always an entirely cynical move on their part and is indicative of creative bankruptcy. They've also been saying this since around 1984. It's balls.
Last game I enjoyed playing through was the RE4 remake/remaster on PC. Thoroughly enjoyed the original also. Some purists insist the remake is uneccessary and that texture mods are available to make the original a superior game. Can't see this myself though.
I "aquired" a game called "trepang2" recently which is meant to be an homage to "F.E.A.R" (which I thought a great game) but I'm really struggling to play it through. It looks and plays like a redundant tech demo from 2008.
Apologies for the long post. Talking about personal interests is usually dull
